  1. I'll be there! Driving down Wed afternoon and will be on site to poke around on Thursday. Not shooting though until my squad gets started on Friday. I'm really looking forward to it. Joel
  2. Your Star Wars Name: Joesh Besko Your Star Wars Title: Oricho of Sseb
  3. I'd forgotten how much fun shootin an IPSC match is! I went to a local match today to shoot for this the first time in about 3 years. Signed up as L10 (only gun I have for this game). Had a really good time. I'll be back next time for sure! I didn't give up many points, really just focused on shooting A's - and that's mostly what I hit. I took longer than I should have, a little practice will cure that. I even managed to put up a C classifier score. My percentage was higher than when I was shooting 3 years ago. So all that Cowboy shooting has been helping. I'll do better next time. I don't think it'll be long before I start putting up B class scores. I also had the pleasure of shooting with Adam Carlson, James Ong, and Dave Benzik (among others). It was really instructional watching them shoot. See you next month! Joel
  4. Great! Are you guys going to be at the match tomorrow? I'm gonna come out. This will be my first IPSC match in a couple of years. I'll be the guy lookin a little rusty wearing a shirt from MPSA (Maryland Practical Shooters Assn). Joel
  5. I've been fighting with it since October of last year. I missed a couple of big shoots I had planned to go to as a result. Took 4 months off completly. That helped some. During that time I alternated heat and ice, massage therapy, lots of stretching, neoprene wrap, etc. It didn't get any better. Finally went to the doc. He gave me a cortisone shot (bunch of other stuff in there too). Totally pain free for about 4 weeks, then it came back. But not nearly as bad as it had been. Still doing lots of stretching, heat and ice, massage, the ART described above, rest, etc. Only shooting monthly type matches right now. Still hurts enough that I can't practice. But I can now tell that it is getting better. I think that be the end of October I might be back to normal. Joel
  6. I can feel for ya. Last October I was playing tug with my dog. He gave a good shake and something in my right elbow popped. I've been dealing with the pain ever since. Even had to take 4 months off completely, missed a couple of big matches, and still can't practice from the pain. Doc said it's just tendonitis. I'm doing what he suggested, but it's still bothering me. I figure it'll be at least October before it's even starting to feel right. Can't take it much longer though. I'm going to the range tomorrow.
  7. I've been struggling a little with my Safariland 012 holster. It seems that the only adjustment that isn't part of the system is the one I really needed to adjust. My arm just doesn't come up at the right angle for a smooth draw. So, I took a look at the holster. There are 2 screws at the top that secure the post assembly to the part that goes on the belt. I pulled the top one, slipped a washer under it, and put the screw back in. Woooo Hoooo! It's perfect now Good thing too, cause I can't afford another holster Joel
  8. I've taken to not having any expectations. I go to a match and what happens happens. If I expect or pressure myself to do well, I don't. Here's a story... I was at a match recently where I knew that if I wanted to win, I couldn't have any mistakes. The first stage, I screwed up and dropped 15. At that point I figured I was out of the running, so no more pressure. I just did what I trained myself to do in practice - I shot. Turns out I shot well enough to finish 2nd overall out of over 200 shooters. I didn't put in a stellar performance, but I did just shoot. Ya know what? I had a lot more fun too! Expectations are overrated. Joel
  9. Are you referring to the one at SVSC (Ione)? If so, I shoot there regularly. Unfortunatly, we were rained out last week. Joel (SA Revolver Division)
  10. Nice job! I was pretty close, I know where I goofed. Joel
  11. I talked it over with my wife and a friend of mine that lives in the area is going to put me up (he's gonna shoot it too). So, I'm going to get my app out in the next week or two. Joel
  12. Thanks for the suggestion. I've ordered the book. Joel
  13. I made one today out of a peice of walnut. Just milled a slot in it wide enough for the mag to slip through but not so wide as the button does too. It works just fine and the price was right. Joel
  14. That's true, but the transition is longer so the angle from 1 to 3 isn't as steep as it is from 1 to 2. That gives you just a touch more time to get the gun down on target. Anyway, that's how I'll shoot it tomorrow. Hope you can make it. Joel
  15. Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up making one out of a peice of walnut I had in the garage. Joel
  16. Yes it is, but recoil drives the gun up so you don't have to fight it to come down to the next target. In addition, I find it's easier to pick up a target that's above the one your are engaging rather than below. You're less likely to block a higher target with body position. Anyway, that's what I've found, but I don't shoot an open gun. Joel
  17. Might also be the change in elevation between targets 1 and 2. I think I'm gonna try 2-1-3-4-stop on sunday. Hope to see you there Erik! Joel
  18. In my cowboy guns it's a very light 106. Joel
  19. Anyone know where I can get a magazine speedloader for a Ruger 22/45? I'd just like something simple to push the button down so I can get the rounds in easier. Thanks! Joel
  20. Depends on when and where. My budget is very tight and I can't afford to add in much. If it's close enough for me to drive and I can find someone to stay with, then it's possible. Day care for the kids is expensive!!!!
  21. That's assuming I even got them right. If Google was out of scope, then this one would truly have been extraordinarily difficult. On the other hand, Google wasn't ruled out in the post so I gamed it Took quite a while to dig 'em up and on a few I guessed on the names of the actor(s). Thanks! I think. Joel
  22. Thank you google! 1. Batman, er...Adam West. 2. Robert DiNero, Taxi Driver 3. Everything is Out of Order, Al Pacino 4. Michael Gross, Tremors 2 5. Christian Slater, Broken Arrow. 6. An American Werewolf in Paris, Tom Everett Scott 7. Different for Girls, Rupert Graves and Steven Mackintosh 8. Willem Dafoe, The Boondock Saints. 9. Ving Rhames, Entrapment. 10. Ben Chaplin and Nicole Kidman, Bithday Girl How'd I do? Joel
  23. Does this count for bragging rights? I moved out here to CA almost 2 years ago. When I got out here, I won the first several Cowboy matches that I shot in. Sorta gave a kick in the butt to the local top shooter, who is a junior. He buckled down and started to practice. I worked with him as time allowed and we practice together during the summer when he's out of school. He very quickly passed me. Then I got him shooting Steel Challenge with his cowboy guns, I still beat him there . Anyway, he's getting better. This past weekend he became the World Champion Cowboy Action Shooter. I'm so proud of that kid! There were over 700 shooters at the match and not only did he win, but he didn't miss a target (that's pretty rare at a cowboy match). Now don't get me wrong, he's had a lot of help from a lot of folks since he started shooting. I'm just the most recent of a long line. He learns from almost everyone. He's a great student and a great kid. Joel
  24. Some of us are. Hey, you remember that 15yo kid that came in 2nd last month and won .22 (Steven Rubert)? He won the SASS World Championship (End of Trail) this past weekend! He's now the overall World Champ. First time it's been won by a junior. See ya then, and make sure that Eric comes. I'd like to meet him. Doc
  25. Thanks folks. It's on my .22 and the gun will be bagged between runs so I don't expect it to get wet except when it's my turn to shoot. Hopefully we won't see the projected wet, it often passes over the valley and we stay dry. Find out on Sunday. James, will I see you for Steel? Joel
