  1. As you can use buckshot on all the steel. I plan on taking more buckshot and less birdshot next year, probably a 50/50 mix. A lot the steel is at farther distances that can be difficult to knock down with birdshot. Buckshot also works well on the double spinners...my 12 pellet S&B load actualy uprooted one from the ground with the legs falling off LOL.

For 2007 we will again do a free CAV-15 receiver for any female shooters who complete the match in Trooper.

  2. Frank is actively involved in the shooting sports, and continually uses shooter feedback to improve his products.

POF is one of the good guy companies that actually cares about making a good product.

  3. The rifle match I run annually uses IMGA style rules, but I do 1 C Zone or better (or 2 hits anywhere) with battle rifle cartridges to neutralize, and 1 A Zone/Two hits with intermediate cartridges. This seemed to be a fair balance for people shooting real battle rifle cartridges like .308 or .30-06

...I believe I stole the idea from Kelly Neal and the Police Match he runs.

  4. I typically go 50% longer than the length of the tube as a general rule to ensure reliability.

I wore out the original factory springs in an 870P and a Benelli M3 in less than a year. Replaced them with Wolff springs cut to 50% longer and they work fine.

  5. Kurt,

My idea that they should go to club members first is based on the idea that the club exists to serve the members. Anyone from anywhere in the country can join Rio Salado...and that would mean added revenue for the range. If there are too many members, entries should be given away in order of seniority of years as a member.

    Ian,

Rio Salado is letting me run an annual Rifle match on Independence Day. I run this match to benefit the Arizona Citizen's Defense League, a local grass roots civil rights group. I do this because I believe both in practical shooting and the causes AZCDL supports. As a business running matches cost us a lot of time and money with not a lot of return other than that it was fun. The most effective way for us to support the shooting sports is with donations to matches other people are running.

  6. Rio Salado supposedly exists as a club to benefit the members right?

I don't see any reason why paying members and particularly Practical Division members should get thrown in the lottery with everyone else. These are the people that pay yearly dues, and constantly support the range by attending matches on a monthly or weekly basis...not being able to attend the match of the year because it's too full is a slap in the face to the regular members.

And if the match fills up with just club members...that'd be fine with me. It might encourage people in other parts of the country to start pursuing running a match of the same level.

  7. So when will sponsorship registrations be available?

If you're going to use any system to trim down entries, it should be as follows:

    1) Rio Salado Practical Division members get 1st preference

    2) Rio Salado Range Members get 2nd preference

    3) Any Arizona Residents get 3rd preference

...anyone can become a range member or Practical Division member.

  8. Anyone know which drum mags are the good ones to get? I have a VEPR K I just ran at a local match, that rifle shoots really smooth. Given that it is built on the RPK receiver, having some drum mags would be appropriate.

I got some of the 20 round mags that are in the Blue Press now...they are handy if for no other reason that they fit in your AR15 mag pouches.

  9. here's the rifle length rail system with mid-length gas system I posted about earlier

    http://www.cavalryarms.com/guns/samson.jpg

Where can you get a 16" barrel with other than the Carbine-length gas system? Such as - longer? The Carbine-length system is the only one I ever see. B)

From Cavalry Arms...visit our dealer forum on the site, or give me a call 480-833-9685

  10. Friday I received 2 prototype magazines from AGP Arms in Tempe, AZ to beta-test before they commence a full production run.

Saturday I tested the magazines and submitted a detailed report to AGP Arms. AGP Arms will be making several modifications to the magazines based on my feedback, and that of the other testers before commencing a production run.

We are getting very close to having the capability to use our Saigas to their full potential. I will keep you all posted on further developements.

  11. Don't wait for a match just get out and test them! I have my own matches coming up and I need them! Well I guess I can wait a bit longer!

Yes, I plan to test them tomorrow after I get them this afternoon...and will use them at the match on sunday. If there are going to be problems the match demons will make sure of it there!
