  1. Seeing as how you don't have a safe and don't want a buggy I think that the best thing for you would be a pelican storm case. They've even got wheels on them so that you can drag them if you get tired of carrying it.
  2. When I first got my FN, another guy with one gave me golden advice about it. They don't like cheap shells. I shot winchester AA's in it. The 1300 FPS 7 1/2 oz ones. Always cycled the gun great. I also ran the heavy piston. I don't know about this new single piston. I'd stick to the better shells if I were you. They are a little bit more expensive, but if they cycle the gun, there isn't anything like having a reliable gun! And there is nothing more frustrating than having an unreliable one!
  3. did dawson do the work or did some loacal smith ??? if dawson did it i will just mail my barrel. lmk jeff cramlit did me a benelli bbl that way great poa shooter with slugs. my smith said a remington bbarel was too lightly soldered to do thge mod on a 1100 barrel can u email me how iut was done pls tks jjw jumper66@cox.net I had a gunsmith do it for me. Pretty much anyone that can cut a novak (*SP) can do it. I'm not totally stoked about how it came out, I think that I'm going to send it back and get them to cut the rib around the rear sight so that it'll sit down more and I won't have to use such a tall front sight, which in turn will reduce the amount of POI shift at close distance with bird shot. Pretty much a win win to get it redone. But here are a few pics for anyone that is curious what it looks like.
  4. I think that you will get some funny looks with the wood, but who really cares. And as far as the slugs go, probably 80 yards is about as far as I've had to shoot on a 12"x18" plate. My buddy who shoots an 1100 shoots some cheap stuff, plenty of the bulk packs, so I wouldn't be too scared of them. My FN was very picky about shells, so I started shooting AA's through it, and I haven't switched. I do however believe that the versamax that I'm shooting will eat whatever I throw at it. Do yourself a favor and do your experimenting at the local cheap matches with nothing but pride on the line. And use what works or has been proven at the bigger matches.
  5. I know that my whole slide and frame stick out of the holster about an inch and nobody has ever said anything. If I could recommend anything, it's be to have a positive retention holster. I can't tell you how many people that I've seen go home because of dropping a gun while running. The added time it takes to get it out of the holster isn't really that much with a little practice.
  6. I like the 10 and 2 method, if you can get it. I actually think that my Vortex HD is closer to 9 and 3.
  7. I think that even if you order a "custom 3 gun rifle" you will end up making some changes to it. I know that I did, and I think that it's better for it. It's gotta fit you for you to be great with it.
  8. I'm running a LaRue PredatAR with the 16" pencil barrel and love it. I've never noticed my accuracy suffering if my round count was a little higher than it should have been on a stage.
  9. I personally have shot with both a pistol grip and traditional grip. I MUCH prefer the traditional grip. A lot of people will tell you that the button will slow your reloads down, and it will. But if that's what you have to work with to get into the sport, then that's what you work with. I know a few guys that run a 1100 and that part doesn't seem to slow them down much. As far as a sight, you are going to want something adjustable, again, that's ideal. I had an adjustable dawson sight machined into my vent rib. It makes the slug shots much easier, and you'll waste a lot less slugs that way. Either way man, just get out there and shoot. Nothing will make you better than real practice.
  10. This, I love my safariland case. I started off with the midway drag bag, but didn't care for it in the long run.
  11. Cool man, I got your PM and I'll try and get some out to you this week. Make sure to update us with pictures!
  12. If you get me an address I can make that One Team One Fight sticker show up at your door!
  13. Great to know that their customer service is like that. I freakin' love my 1-6, good luck with the fix.
  14. I used mine, but before I did I called and got all of the info. Made those damn 4x4's affordable, lol.
  15. You just have to push the shell forward a little and press the shell catch and let the shell come back. It will pop out into your hand. Kind of a pain, but doable and your dummies will last longer.
  16. If you run a longer tube, the barrel length will not really matter because the tube will stick out further.
  17. I've heard nothing but good things about this gun. I shot the big Tarheel match and remington had their engineers out in the "field" questioning the 3 gunners about what certain features/mods they liked and why. It looks like they took the advice to heart and made some awesome changes for a competition ready shotgun right out of the box.
  18. Not really worried about getting paid to have a sticker on my shotgun. It's a good cause and I don't mind advertising for them.
  19. I use these: http://www.amazon.com/A-Zoom-Precision-Snap-Caps-Gauge/dp/B0029M2YWE They work great, but get chewed up like someone said above. I've had them for a couple of years, and they are pretty rough looking. Still work like a champ though.
  20. Great to hear, mine should be here Wednesday. I'm stoked.
  21. Good to know, and thanks for all of the info. I'm thinking that I'll try and pick it up.
  22. The gun is used. It was built back in 2000, he shot around 700 rounds through it and put it in the safe. It hasn't been fired since 03'. Not too sure why he is getting rid of it. I didn't think about the tolerances being too tight. I shoot mainly 3 gun so there would be more dust/dirt involved than in bullseye shooting. The owner says that the slide feels like its on ball bearings, like a good 2011 should. And that there is no play in the slide.
