  1. Here's the data from IMR. 230 GR. HDY FMJ FP IMR SR 7625 .451" 1.200" 5.4 745 12,200 CUP 6.0 848 16,600 CUP 230 GR. LRN IMR SR 7625 .452" 1.200" 5.5 828 15,100 CUP 6.0 897 17,300 CUP The top wtih FMJ will put you right at 171PF. You could swap the moly and see where it chrono's, then back off accordingly.
  2. It doesn't always work like that. A lighter bullet requires more powder than a heavier bullet. If you take a fast burning powder like Clays or VV N310 with a heavy 200-230 you will get a softer impulse. That's been my results anyhow. Running 3.7-3.8 Clays with a 230 FMJ, doesn't get much softer. But your results may vary. I use 4.6 AA#2 and 180 or 185 SWC from Missouri or Dardas, and .45LC 180 RNFP from Mid Atlantic Bullets and Black and Blue Bullets. Very accurate and consistent 730 FPS that runs my M&P reliably. With the same bullets I've tried a few other powders-Clays and Universal. I had a lot deviation in velocity with Clays and poor accuracy at 3.8g. I've also used 4.2 TG with very, very good results but the recoil impulse was a little too snappy for my preference so I stayed with AA#2.
  3. If you want to go "minor" consider using a lighter bullet. Like 180 SWC or .45LC 180 RNFP.
  4. http://www.bayoubullets.net/index.htm Seems like its been about a month..at least, that they are not even taking orders.
  5. I think you might want check your measurement 1.169, it is way too long for an XDm magazine. I'm not able to go past 1.155 without having the rounds jamb inside the magazine tube. I load all of my XD/m loads at 1.145 to 1.150 to stay away from rounds causing feeding problems through a mag. Rich My mistake and I've edited my post. My COL is 1.160.
  6. I tried 3.8 Clays and got terrible accuracy and a lot of deviation. I use AA4#2 at 4.6g and get great accuracy and run about 730fps which is what I wanted.
  7. 4.7 WSF and a 124mg at 1.160 gives me 2" 25 yd groups from my XDM 5.25. Your OAL does seem pretty short. My velocity averages about 1080 for a 133PF

    My M&P9

I too had an impossible time trying to get my M&P9 accurate. I ended up ditching it and tried an XDM but the M&P ergos kept bringing me back. Finally I settled on the M&P45 and shoot minor loads in Production. I get sub 2" 25 yard groups with 4.2 TG and 180 LSWC from www.dardascastbullets.com
  9. 5.0 AA#2 180LSWC AVG: 795! 143PF 4.8 AA#2 180LSWC AVG: 775 139PF So I would like to drop another 45 FPS! Maybe it's not going to happen? I didn't have a lot of unburnt powder or leading at 4.8 so Maybe I'll work to as low as 4.5??? Otherwise I'll just shoot 4.2 TG which seems pretty good. With the AA#2 I was just looking for something a little softer.
  10. Whenever I hear about people doing what I'm doing and not getting the same resuults, it worries me something bad is about to go down...as if "I" am the one mistaken. Your results with Clays and TG are totally oposite than mine and Dan Burwell is much smarter than me. But I have been doing good with 4.2 TG and 180 bullet. I've yet to get out with my AA#2 but plan on it tomorrow. I have a few test loads of 4.8 and 5.0 to push a 180LWSC. What does everyone think of that combination?
  11. I just bought a lb of AA#2 and am trying to decide where to start. Any suggestions. I checked a couple different manuals and I didn't see exact data for lead and #2 at the speed I'm looking for. Of course I'll start low and work up. Accurate manual says for 185 LSwC 5.6 = 895 FPS. I want to be around 720 FPS. If I start at 5.0 am I starting too low?
  12. I shoot .45 loaded to minor because I simply prefer shooting the M&P45 over most everything else. So far I've tried 3.8 Clays 180LSWC: poor accuracy lots of deviation. 5.3 Universal 180LSWC. Very tight accuracy but unburnt powder. Sometimes seemed as if the whole charge would ignite and got a full juiced load. 4.2 Tite Group 180LSWC. Very tight accuracy, sub 2" groups 25 yards. Consistent FPS; Avg. velocity 733. I'm probably going to try a powder between TG and Universal now; likely AA#2. But TG is good to go and the price of a 8 lb jug makes my overall cost near 9mm teritory.
  13. I have two M&P9 firing pin's that look exactly the same as yours. My pistol was new in November and I shot a little over 2k rounds with no problems until I noticed the firing pin was broken in the exact same spot as yours. The firing pin I had was silver if that matters. I had a replacement around which just happened to be black. I dry fired it no more than 10 times and it broke! I got a replacement from S&W which was sliver and have only fired a few dozen rounds. I have a M&P45 I've shot about 5k from and regularly dry fire practice and the original pin is still going strong.
