  1. In Ohio we have primers all around and some of the powder is coming back, albeit a little more expensive, no sale pricing. I have been using 231 for 40 major and minor without issue. Burns pretty clean at major loads for me.
  2. Hey everyone, We will be hosting a Level I NROI seminar at PCSI March 28-29. If you would like more info or application, send me a quick PM with your email address and I will get it sent over to you. Thanks, Mads
  3. Do not know the rule number, however the grip safety is not required in USPSA. Almost all the folks I know in USPSA who shoot the 1911 style frame do not have a functioning grip safety, myself included. Pinning is the predominate method, I just adjust the sear spring so it does not contact and the grip safety "floats" on my guns.
  4. Sounds great Jeff, looking forward to it and will be in touch with you soon. Mads
  5. We are going to try and squeeze 10 in for 2014. Should be a good time.
  6. +1 on the 40 in a 45 mag. I run my 45 mags with a 40 SS. The big thing I had to do to get reliable feeding was a longer OAL on the 40. I am out to an OAL of 1.195 with no issues. Running shorter "Glock" length produced feeding issues (OAL of 1.140). Just. Make sure you count to eight on the 40 if using eight-round 45 mags as they will actually hold and function with nine rounds of 40.
  7. I have talked with Donnie about this. If you are going to push the bullets to major PF, let him know when you order. He does something slightly different. However, the Bayous can be run in comped guns.
  8. Hello everyone. After talking with Sarge we will be hosting the 2014 Ohio Match at Pickaway County Sportsmens, Inc in Circleville, Ohio. I will be serving as the MD and Paul Hernandez has agreed to be the RM. The match will be held over Memorial Day weekend again with the main shooting on Saturday and Sunday, May 24-25. We will work to put on the same quality match that Sarge (and previously Dan) has put on over the last few years. More information on the match will soon follow; we are excited to host the match in 2014 and look forward to seeing you there. Take care, Mads
  9. I run 230 in 45 and 200 in 40. For major, I prefer heavier bullets as the recoil is different and I perceive it to be "softer" for me. I then find a mainspring/recoil spring combo that works well and cycles the gun how I want it to. With that, I run a 17lb mainspring in both and a 13lb recoil for 45 and 12lb recoil for 40. Take care, Mads
  10. I am sure there is a thread or two here, but, Dawson Precision has a great section on their websites about sights and how to determine what is needed. Brownell's may as well. Mads
  11. Yes, due to unforeseen circumstances, the big match has been cancelled. I will be sending back all registrations I have received up to this point. I will be running an 8 stage fun match on Saturday, August 17. We will shoot four stages, break for lunch and shoot the other four. The match will be $20 (ladies and jrs half price) and will include lunch and kid beverages. If you plan on attending this fun match, please send me a quick message so I can get a rough count for lunches.
  12. Yes, due to unforeseen circumstances, the big match has been cancelled. Any registrations received will be returned this week. I will be running my regularly scheduled match on that Saturday with all 8 stages being shot.
  13. I have found the Bill Drills help the most with not only split times but everything else that is going on with the gun, recoil, timing and helping to watch the sights lift. I had two breakthrough moments while shooting with both Steve Anderson and Flex. The first, mainly from Anderson, was you have to give your self permission to shoot that fast. Basically, prove to your self that you can pull the trigger that fast. The second, from both, is splits alone will not win you a match. I have watched some decent shooters absolutely kill on their splits (sub .15 splits on 4-6 shot strings) but they are all over the targets and having to take make ups. For what that is worth, taking the .2 splits with A hits on the target is a better service to your score, IMO. With all that said, an I will get video if I remember this weekend at the range, I can get consistent splits between .16 and .18 on Bill Drills with a stock Glock 22 and major PF loads. In comparison, the lowest I have consistently run on a single stack with a decent trigger job is .14-.15 on Bill Drills.
  14. +1 on the load sounding hot. With 231 I am at 4.7 grns with the same bullet at 800fps or so. And Wolf springs take the cake. I am running a 13lb variable power that I change out every 2-3k rounds just to be safe. A $7 investment to help reduce the likelihood of a cracked slide on $1,000+ gun is comforting. May be a bit over kill but oh well.
  15. I have had some apps start rolling in, I will send email confirmations out to all received applications. Mads
  16. Here is what happened. Running shooters on a stage with a falling plate rack at the end. Used conveyor belts were used to absorb the energy of the plates but they were a bit bouncy. One plate in particular would stand back up if hit in the top third with Major PF. This was usually the first plate they engaged in the array. Most of the time, the plate stayed down. However, when it popped back up, the reaction from the shooter was mixed. Ultimately, if the shooter left the plate, knowing they hit it and it went down, we gave them the hit. If a shooter wet back for the plate after it hit and came back up, they usually had one shot, less than a second extra on the stage. However, if they shot at it twice and hit it twice, before scoring and announcing the time, we have the shooter an option of taking the stage as is or offering a reshoot. All shooters offered the choice took the stage as is and didn't reshoot. I understand the rule on if a plate is hit and does not fall, that is REF and reshoot (we had a few of those as well). What I am unsure of is when the plate is hit and falls (score on KD) but stands back up based on momentum. Is there a specific rule that addresses this? Would it be REF in all cases and automatic reshoot? How would you have handled the situation and why? Thanks, Mads
  17. Well, after a few delays and failing to talk the Barbarian into running this match, here is the application. I really hope it loads up properly. You only need to send the second page back to me. I am going to have four time slots to select from to shoot in. I am holding Friday afternoon as an overflow, unless you really want to shoot with staff on Friday. I am going to have two slots, an am and pm on Saturday and an AM on Sunday. I will pass out the awards after the match has concluded on Sunday. Any prizes given out, other than cash, will be through a random draw and passed out at registration. As I finalize more of the details I will post them up here. I am working on a block of hotel rooms, once done, I will let you know. I will have applications with met at Area 5 this coming weekend. I am working the Dark House stage, say hi if you want. I will also have applications available at the PCSI steel match this weekend, they will be available at the USPSA and Steel match in July at PCSI. And, anywhere else you may see me, chances are I will have an app for you, if you want. Any questions, just shoot me a message. I will do my best to respond quickly to them while I am traveling over the next couple of weeks. Thanks and take care, Mads MWSSC Posting.pdf
  18. SC is a lot of muscle memory. Keep doing what you are doing and include the par times. I am relatively close to you if you need a shooting partner at your nice practice range :-) Par times help, working on a smoking draw is good. I have found that hard transitions help with steel. What I mean by hard transitions is a drill that Steve Anderson recommends for both steel and USPSA. I will set up two 12" squares at fifteen yards. I will place them about 10-12 yards apart and work on transitions from left to right then right to left, one shot on each. Just my thoughts, seems to help when I actually do it.
  19. I am sure we can find some powder puff loads for you that will cycle in it. I certainly won't be shooting full house 357 that day.
  20. + 1 on this. We ran a stage a couple of years ago, stage description said "all remaining magazines" and not all remaining ammo or loading devices. Well, our two revolver guys were happy as could be because they didn't have mags. However, in the spirit, they did put their moon clips up on the barrels.
  21. Scores got sent out this evening. If you did not receive them, I probably mistyped your email. Let me know.
