  1. At the recent TENN state match, there was a slider activated by a popper that ultimately disappeared behind a stack of logs. The slider was set on a hill and came down at an approx 30 degree angle. The slider actually paused at the bottom and, thanks to a bungie cord, bounced back up the hill before settling down behind the logs. I shot the slider on the way down with my Glock 35 and got an Alpha – Mike. I held the first shot on the leading D zone and held the gun static for the second shot (which I did not call and which I’m sure was the Mike). Question: · For second shots on a slider, should I have followed through and tracked the target (kind of like shooting clay birds with a shotgun) instead of holding the gun static for the second shot? · Also, I’d appreciate any general advice on shooting sliders. It’s something that’s difficult to practice since I don’t have access to a slider. Thanks
  2. It would be very interesting if (like with pistols), USPSA/IPSC lowered the major PF. If the major PF was something around 275 or so, shooters could make major with the 7.62x39, but not with the 5.56. I think you’d see a lot more shooters using AKs. It could also be an avenue to let newer shooters (or shooters with less disposable income) use a $300 rifle and cheap ammo and be more competitive because they can make major. Similar to Production division in pistols, I think it could potentially draw more entry-level shooters to 3 gun matches – which, IMO, is a positive thing. yes . . thread drift . . .
  3. Anyone try the KNS "crosshairs" front sight? It's a hooded front sight that replaces your post and utilizes a little crosshairs. Here's a pic link: http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/scopes/kns1.asp I looked at one on a rifle and it looked pretty neat, but I never fired it. I wonder how fragile the crosshairs are?
  4. Bill, I use Winchester Q3131A 55 grain in my BM 16" upper with a Smith Enterprise brake. I get velocities around 3100 fps for an approx PF of 170. No prob making minor.
  5. I'd like to increase my sight radius on my 16" upper by moving my front sight out toward the muzzle. I've seen a clamp-on front sight for an AR but I don't know who makes it and I can't find it in Brownells. It's one that does NOT use the gas block to attach - it clamps directly on the barrel. The front sights that use the gas block are no good to me because it doesn't increase my sight radius. I appreciate your thoughts.
  6. There's a notch in the internal tube that fits in a slit in the external tube. If that's in place and functioning well, then leave it alone. I don't use the fail safe powder rod (I just look at the powder level), but if it functions when the powder gets low, then it's fine. Test it for yourself.
  7. jhgtyre, What type of rack do you bolt on the wagon and where did you get it? Thanks.
  8. My kids have a big red flyer style wagon, although it's plasitc instead of metal and wood. I'd like to put a rack on it to carry my shotgun and rifle for three gun matches - but be able to take it off between matches. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
  9. Nope not speed loaders. It's the easy loader shell carrier plate. I have one on my 1100, but I can't find one for the 870
  10. Does anyone make a easyloader shell carrier for an 870. I can only find them for the 1100. Thanks.
  11. FYI - I chrono'ed Winchester Q3131A (55 grn) out of my BM 16" upper yesterday. My average FPS was approx 3120. That equates to a 171.6 power factor - easily making the required 160 out of a 16 incher.
  12. In the upcoming Area 6 3G, there's two stages where you start shooting a long gun and have your unloaded pistol in the holster. Later in the stage you place the long gun on a table, draw and load your pistol, and finish the stage. It makes me slightly nervous to run around shooting a long gun with have my pistol in my CR Speed. Question: Is it permissable under the rules to use a Production/IDPA style holster on the combined gun stages AND use my CR Speed on the pistol stages? Stated another way - can you use different holsters on different stages in a match under the rules? Thanks.
  13. I agree with Yar's comments based my experience with Charlie's triggers. I'm now getting one for my G34.
  14. Patches - what's the little knob or hanger sticking out of the target? TSC - yes, that's Mr. Seale.
  15. I shoot cardboard, steel plates and some bowling pins. One tip I learned from a local GM (thanks Wayne!) is to shoot at partial cardboard targets. I use masking tape to simulate hard cover on all my IPSC tagets. This helps/forces me to call my shots. Full IPSC targets now look huge after always practicing on partial targets.
  16. [thread drift] Does the THE extended tungston guide rod add more than 2 oz over the stock gun? If so, you can't use it in Production. OK , of course, in Lim 10 and LTD.
  17. Shot it in Limited 55 points 8.37 seconds UPDATE: USPSA ranked it at 79.079%
  18. Shot this stage today with my Glock 35. I'm a B class LTD shooter. 1st string: 2.62 seconds (facing up range, surrender) 2nd string: 2.17 seconds (facing down range, hands at side) 4.79 seconds total 55 points UPDATE: USPSA ranked this at 87.507%
  19. I agree in concept. Why not just keep the Class winners, etc for trophies only - - and keep the cash for the top finishers in each division (e.g., Limited, Open, etc) regardless of class. That way there's no need to designate each shooter as a "pro" or "amateur." Simplify . . .
  20. I recently had John Nagel (a/k/a Mad Scientist here on BE) do a grip stipple job on my G35. The pics don't do the job justice (my digital camera doesn't do close ups well), but it's an excellent, well thought-out job. OK - I guess I don't know how to attach pics here. Help . . .

    Mystery Glock Jams

Nik and Mike, OAL: My OAL on my .40 is 1.125, so I don't think I can load them any shorter. I did, however, get out the Dremil and re-polish the feed ramp to make sure there wasn't any build up. Guiderod: I've heard that some Glocks get finiky with after-market guide rods. However, I've previously put approx 15,000 rounds through my G35 with a tungston rod with 0 malfunctions. I think that my mag springs were weak. I also received some advice that I should only load 19 rounds in my mags with Arredondo +5 extentions in order to avoid spring binding. I've ordered a package of new Wolf +10% mag springs. I'll let everyone know if that fixes the problem. Thanks.
