  1. Newb wants to go and has a ton of questions. From division choices to range layout as well as anything helpful! I'm a 1911 shooter but my cz pointman 9 has been tuned up for USPSA and IDPA but might not be good enough for metallic? I have an xdm 5.25 9mm that should be fine for production? Possiblity of my son coming to shoot also and that xdm is his. If there's still room would do the clinic on Monday also....so much in so little time Help! Please pm me if you could spend some phone time in the evening thanks ahead of time~
  2. Very serious here about going to the Cup this year for the first time. Just saw the Rocks dates and yes that would be a great idea. Seven hours for each leg of that trip isn't bad! My main problem is I need a mentor for the Action Pistol shooting at this level and need one quick! If anyone has the time please pm me as I have a whole bunch of questions..... thanks ahead of time,
  3. My son dug out my old ppc .38 special and has been bugging me to death about using it. So there's a bunch of info I'm looking for. We have dies and that's about it. Help with the following would be much appreciated: Holster speed loaders and carrier reload data That's should be enough to get us started. oh yeah he wants to shoot the Bianchi Cup with it too
  4. I know there is an indoor range in Berea. Best bet is looking up those, maybe they have a ppc night or something like that.
  5. ummmm, were these jokers by a Dodge motorhome?
  6. Hell I was there and I shot that Ma Duce for like a buck a round or something wonderful like that. I will never forget that HK 21 misfire (?) grassfire, yes caos, whatever it was. While at a gunshow this winter some guy was selling a parts kit for a HK 21 and when my son asked me what that gun was I told him that same story! Moral, dont shoot it without a barrel. Yes then came the Nuclear Blast Simulator
  7. I have used that advice shooting many different plates, pins, whatever, seems once your sight picture is set for the first shot the follow up shots are right there. Instead of shooting the plates at 50 yds I'm a firm believer in practicing with smaller targets and when you get to the match the targets look huge! Pretty sure Im going this year (2014) if anyone has any advice I am all ears! I'm sure you'll see many posts from me with questions in the next couple of weeks, please feel free to contact me and thanks ahead of time.
  8. Newbie for the Bianchi Cup question....Do they use the black center targets at the Cup or the all tan targets? thanks
  9. More than Richard Davis???? Now Richard had so many guns that my buddies and I would take a couple home with us after Second Chance. My favorite "glory days" of shooting spent there! When I won the BCBC I picked a Bennelli M1 and Richard freaked out that I didnt take the S&W Second Chance Commemorative...I told him "the only folks in Youngstown that have gold plated triggers are pimps!"
  10. As I've only seen a couple of wheel guns at the local matches I was wondering what the preferred revolver is for shooting IDPA? I have a sweet Model 10 PPC gun, sure it will fit under a vest! thanks~
  11. My son and I would like to try this match, I'm assuming its still going on for 2014? Could anyone help us with some info and advice? thanks
  12. I "grew up" shooting USPSA since the early 80's and have just lately participated in IDPA because matches are local and numerous. Basically I believe that any time spent on the trigger is time well spent! But so far I have yet to get thru a entire match without a procedural. I can pretty much blame it on trying to "game" a stage but for me coming up with a strategy for the stage based on my capacity and trying to beat a clock is the most rewarding part of a match. So everyone's shooting against the clock, almost everyone's shooting guns they would never carry, so basically its USPSA with rules to slow you down?? Ok, so adding my age into that equation maybe its a good sport for me? But I just dont like taking the penalties! Running thru the stage blazing and taking penalties that they might call could just be a winning strategy? But then there's that failure to do right thing??? Who is going to be the judge and jury on that call? You might need to bring council with you! I have been around a long time and have dealt with RO's/SO's good and bad. I have been in their shoes and have always treated them with respect that I would want to get when its my turn on the timer but I think the extra rules of this sport designed to eliminate the gamer just add more ammo to the pouch of the not so good SO's Besides my problems trying to adjust to IDPA rules my son who is just starting out in pistol shooting is doing extremely well with IDPA and after a few matches with multiple stages has not received one penalty! He has yet to try a USPSA match and I'm wondering if hes better off not trying it! But actually starting with IDPA and then going to USPSA might be much easier? I pay to be members of both sports, I'm much more familiar with one, I guess with an attitude change and going over the new IDPA rule book with a lawyer I might be able to focus better next year. Practice makes perfect right? Any said opinions above are not meant to harm any particular shooting sport as we love all of them and will continue to support them as well as our right to enjoy them! Or sometimes not enjoy them so much
  13. Well my uspsa was and is #A4616 and after a 22 year hiatus I got to start shooting it all over again. Proved that was my number from some old major match scores as they didnt save much before the computer age came along. Best part of it is I'm still shooting my ol'frankenstein 1911 .45 and now they even have a class for us guys called single stack. I did get a few laughs about my gear but then it turned to "whose this guy shooting all the A's?" I just told them muscle memory!
  14. A couple of them do should familiar. I still have some of the scores and pamphlets they used to send out. Especially because i saved the entire score list of the BCBC the year I won it and almost beat the match, very close to a negative time Richard couldn't believe i picked a Benelli m1 over the second chance commemorative pistol. But hey those where the hottest ticket out then and I wore out my good'ol 1100 shooting all those slugs! Had a few of the younger crowd ask me at the brm3g last weekend what the master blaster patch on my shooting bag is from, ha ha ha! I told them its for a few years worth of great memories
  15. First big 3 gun match I've shot since SOF 1989, that's 24 years. Boy! did I pick the wrong one to make a come back or what ? NO, actually I loved it and now know what to expect next time. All the hard work that was done putting this match on is greatly appreciated. Lucked out with Squad 11, not knowing anyone there and these folks were great to shoot with! Thanks to everyone, cant wait to come back for more!
  16. Ok, Just so I understand what class I'll be in..... I'm going to be wearing a silky shirt with just my own Ohio company name on it and nobody is sponsoring me. I'm pretty sure I might meet a 180 par time but might need 3-4 puffs off of the oxygen tank. Buying a round of drinks no problem but the entire tab no way! Also, yelling anything at me during the match is much appreciated as others wont be able to hear me cursing at myself! Thanks and going to pack right now~
  17. Can someone post a link for a map of Rockcastle or where these stages are located? thanks
  18. Still have my old carbide smoker. Still have shirts with stains from the same era! Now in spray cans and was using that but I switched to fiber up front and just bead blasted and reblued the rear, no more black stained shirts
  19. I was at Second Chance during the late 80's and used to camp on site. Besides a great shot Ken saw me getting out of that water tower shower one day and said he was coming back at night with a couple of blocks of ice to put in there! As I shot my way to master blaster we talked quiet a lot and we both agreed that our pistols worn out blue meant you were good. Best story was at Hancock Cty. WV sectional. At the first round of the shoot off I got paired with Ken. Talk about luck of the draw, but I had shot a good match and was ready to take him on. On command we both made ready, I turned to look at him and he turns and gives me the worst possible stare you could imagine! Like something right out of the ol'west with two gun fighters about to go at it. Buzzer goes off and we both missed one of the five plates, we both went back for it but he beat me to it by a tenth. Then we shook hands and he says "looks like we both fumbled through that one" Ill never forget that look, was like looking at a rattler ready to strike and ill never look at an opponent before the shoot off again! My buddies were like "you almost got him!" "One tenth!" Pretty fine memory from 25ish some years ago :-D and its good to hear he's still droppin the hammer.
  20. BritinUSA thanks for that video link. I know I am hard pressed to even take pictures for someone during a match let alone spend the time doing video. The stages shown looked great and congrats to the folks running that match also! Headed to the Area 8's this Friday, first big match for me in over 20 years so I am "studying" all these posts, pics and videos. Again thanks for your contribution~
  21. 1st time shooting this match and this range. Not a first time shooter though but been locked in a closet since my Master Blaster years! Cant wait~!!! and a possible ride share from Northern Ohio.? Already have a room if nobody wants to join me looks like the wife might want to <heavy sigh> My shooting team member (son) will be in school and doesn't feel hes good enough yet to spend the big bucks to shoot. Unless he plays hookie to be my gun bearer and check out the big time~! Contact me for details, references and even some practice, my range or yours, as I wouldn't want to match run with just anyone as I am sure you feel the same way.
  22. Run the SBR and you wont need a light~! That muzzle flash will light up everything
