  1. As mentioned before I feel the 6 O'clock hold is too much to think about while shooting on the clock as well as head shot only targets. I also notice that some people use the 6 o'clock hold because they want too see there bullet impact rather than just call their shots.
  2. my open gun is in the white, but I clean it and lube it so it doesn't rust. When that is done I take a buffing wheel with some Mother's Chrome car polish and polish the slide, most people think its a chrome gun. It will be soon I was waiting for the season to be over before sending it out. I would use a patch with the polish on it, on a small spot on the gun, to see how it works. Don't use the buffing wheel till you know the finish can take it.
  3. With Mec-gar mags and dawson pads I get 18 (when the spring is broken in) and 1 in the pipe. but typically I get 17 +1 in the 14-45. I use the mec-gar mags because the para mags did not like my swc loads.
  4. with the 300 winmag if you can try the 190 SMK for 800-1000. I find them to be best. The BC is a little lower than the 210 but the 190 fly a little better in my opinion. (I know that doesn't really make sense)You said you had a 1/8 adjustment scope but didnt mention magnification. Honestly I think people get too caught up in over magnification and a 10x or 14x could serve you just fine. One thing I teach is magnification magnifies movement. with that being said on my F-class rifle I run a 6.5-18 variable scope. However I have competed with a Rem 700 .308 20" barrel and a 3.5-10 and still held my own at 3rd. one thing you can do now to make things better is add weight to your rifle to hold down the recoil a bit 60 round days of 300 winmag isn't for the faint of heart. so taming it could make all the difference in your groups come the end of the day.
  5. Measure your trigger pull on your production gun and also notice how long it is. the 2011 is a lot shorter take up so a light trigger coming from production could actually be counter productive. My open guns are around 2.25 my limited guns around 2 3/4 and my production is a little north of 3.5. Going below 2lb. just didn't not work for me, it was as if I didn't feel enough trigger before the shot broke. I like to feel the wall before it breaks especially while transitioning between targets in an array. Definitely pin the grip safety as you mentioned. These guys also covered the slide lock issue pretty well, for me JHP's would hit the slide stop and lock the gun open, same thing with swc in my limited gun.
  6. I was referring to the auto eject tray on the 550 not a case loading block/tray.
  7. I use a 17lb in all my 1911's and all my small pistol primer guns have longer firing pins they will set off even russian primers. my .45's have the 17lb spring and just the extra power firing pin spring, they are also reliable with russian primers
  8. glad to help. if you get the casefeeder buy more trays i was able to double my output with the casefeeder.
  9. I use caspian bomar style rear sights on two guns. They have a .125 notch which I like along with the Dawson .09 front plain black. I am building a fixed sight 1911 now that will get the Warren Tactical Sights, the tactical version because I love them on my Glock. The wide rear notch allows me to see more target in my rear to know I'm getting my hits in the A or Zero. To me shot calling is easier with that wide rear and thin front. That in turn allows me to shoot faster and more accurate. I am also building a Single Stack that I plan to try the Tripp sights on to see how I like them but I will probably open them up a bit too. Something I would point out is front sight height on the fixed rear should be a little taller so they can be filed down to get proper POA POI.
  10. If it is a single stage press its easy to go right to the box, if you are using a progressive they fall in the tray while you keep cranking more out
