Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I actually just spoke to the MD, and they are pulling the plug on this one. I have stepped up to become Assistant MD and hopefully get this off the ground in a better more efficient manner and hopefully can start having affordable monthly matches starting this fall.
  2. I had posted something like this before, but I pulled it down because I didn’t like the way it was worded. I am posting it again in hopes that I can word it better. I am going to address a few things about the upcoming 3 gun at Rose City Flying Clays in Tyler. I’ll start with the course of fire and stages and go from there. If I don’t cover something that you have a question about please ask, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. The course of fire is going to be a mix of single firearm stages and true 3 gun stages. We have 2 pistol only stages, 3 shotgun only stages, and 3-3 gun stages. Stage 1 is going to be a pistol only stage, it is the one that has been posted. Stage 2 is going to be a shotgun only stage. It will be skeet shooting and involve shooting 2 clay pigeons thrown. Stage 3 is going to be another shotgun only stage and will involve skeet shooting of 2 clay pigeons, and one clay pigeon thrown away from the shooter (trap shooting). Stage 4 is also going to be a shotgun only stage. This is the final shotgun only stage. It involves skeet shooting (2 clay pigeons), trap shooting (1 clay pigeon) and the rabbit trap (1 clay pigeon rolled across the ground) Here is a link to a youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usQVDhNDhQM Stage 5 and 6 will be a 3 gun course of fire. Stage 7 will be a 3 gun bonus stage. It will be a very fast stage, there will be only reactive targets of some sort. I will be posting these stages like I did the other one, it just takes some time to build them on this software. They will be published as I finish them. I will not be posting anything for the shotgun only though. We may add the second pistol only stage. It will depend on how much time is available. What you can expect from on the day of the event. There will be some waiting to shoot. We will do what we can to mitigate the standing around, but some will occur. We will be calling on shooters to help reset the stages for the next shooter. Doing this will greatly reduce the amount of time between runs. The stages are set to be challenging and fun. With your registration fees you are going to receive: 1. The opportunity to shoot all the stages. 2. Lunch. It is going to be provided by Rose City Flying Clays. I don’t know what is on the menu yet, but they have a huge grill/smoker and are talking about firing it up for the event. Bottled water will be available throughout the facility. 3. A gift bag. We are still working with other sponsors about what is going to be in the bag. Things like coupons and discount codes for stores are some of the things that we are talking about, as well as other items. 4. An event t-shirt. 5. Entry into the raffle. We are hoping to be able to provide a very nice raffle for the shooters. Our hope is that a shooter will have a better than 50% chance of winning something in the raffle. A lot of people have asked us if we are going to be doing this in the future or if this is a one-time deal. We definitely want to do this in the future. Our goal is to be able to do something like this AT LEAST once every three months. With bigger events once or twice a year. But to do this, and to stay current and competitive with other ranges that are doing this or going to do this, we need to purchase targets. We are looking to get plate racks, Texas star targets, poppers and so on. But these are very expensive. Our goal is to purchase these targets with the proceeds from this event. Larger events like this will have better prizes and sponsors and cost a bit more. On the other hand the smaller club style matches will be fun shoots where you show up, shoot, have a good time and head home. These fun shoots will typically have a lower entry fee (about $20-30) that is only intended to cover range fees and replace any targets that are not usable any more after the shoot. We are hoping to be able to have more club matches than big events. Long story short we are looking to use this event a starting point to be able to bring you more shoots like this in the future.
  3. Rose City Flying Clays 3 Gun Competiton 7/26/2014 Standard Deviation Arms is a proud sponsor of this event in Tyler TX I'll Post more information as it becomes available This is a first 3gun style match in the area by new match directors at a newer facility in East TX ,with great prizes to include an Anderson AR15 Follow them at http://www.facebook.com/tylertexas3gun Registration is discounted to $100 for a limited time The MD's are hoping to generate the interest to make this match a regular occurrence... Please ask questions, comments concerns and any possible sponsorship/volunteer/whatever and I will relay them to the MD's for everyone here on ENOS.
  4. I have used the 124 Berry's DP bullets in my open gun. They were good enough for close hoser stuff but it couldn't hold minute of A past 20 yards for me, so I had to pass on them.
  5. thats great info thanks a lot. Looks like I'll be shooting more IDPA.
  6. Thanks everyone. So it's official I'm going to be relocating to Tyler next month. Hopefully I'll meet you all on the range. Coming from NJ I typically drive 2 hours each way for a match so seems I will have to do that there too.
  7. Thanks for the input. Coming from NJ I'm use to driving about 2 hours for a match. Looks like I'll need to continue driving to shoot.
  8. I'm looking for any information on shooting clubs in or around Tyler TX. Also if there is USPSA, IDPA, or 3 gun where is it and what day? I'm also curious of regular ranges for general practice if they are around. Thanks for the help.
  9. Are you shooting minor or steel challenge? If you are those powders are great with the open gun. If you are shooting major you'd be best to try 135 to 155gr bullets with a powder like autocomp, hs6, aa7, 3n37 or silhouette
  10. The typical method is to go by lead data as lead and moly tend to shoot a little faster than jacketed
  11. I use an EGW u-die in my Dillon. then load as normal. this resizes brass well enough to go into my match 1911 chambers.
  12. make sure you back it down some on the powder, don't want a kaboom. I loved TG with 180 when I was shooting plated or jacketed.
  13. You are going to lose velocity by increasing the OAL. I've read people using almost a full grain more than I do. (I load factory length). Have you considered a faster powder as well? I keep everything factory length this way it loads in my STI, Single Stack, Glock 35, and XD and if the airline loses my stuff again I can get away with using ammo from a gun shop if need be.
  14. check the specs of the mag feed lips. there is tons of info on how to do that on the forums here. That would be the place to start. What length are you loading, or are you using factory? are you currently using 38super mags with no spacer?
