I like the +7 for a 10 round capacity. Some guys like 12 rounds, but to me that's getting to be a pretty long stick.
-
Trying to figure out what others are running for base pads and what you have for capacity. Right now I have 2 mags with the Canyon Creek pads and Gram's spring and followers which gives me 24 rounds of 9mm. I would like to order a couple more, but they are out of black and it's going to be a couple months before they make more. Are there other base pads out there that I could use with the Gram's guts that will give me 24 round capacity? I tried them with my Arredondo's and only got 23 rounds.

Man, you're opening a can of worms!
My idea- 9 stages, 2 1/2 days, all three guns on all stages, slung rifle starts, 240 second time outs, rifle out to 400, pistol out to 100, shooting in and out of vehicles, rickety barricades, props to climb over, around, under, shoot off the top of...
This. I love the Horner matches. See you at TFD in a few weeks.

Another good option would be the G Code XST. You would have slight muzzle projection with the 5.25, but it would function fine http://www.tacticalholsters.com/product/XST/XST-Standard.html

Here is the link to Maxwell's vid from one of the Forrest Lake shotgun matches last year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ht7T7vjrVZ0
For anyone looking to book a room the Americinn in Forrest Lake came recommended by the locals. That's where I'll be.

New to this match. What is this skedco you speak of?
-
Well I was right on the baby thing.

I'll gladly crawl through the pallet tunnel or flaming tractor tires for that matter........as long as the gas masks get left at home..... Just kidding.....sorta
No matter what the boys come up with, I know this is going to be another great match. Stoked that I made the special trip into town on the first to get my app postmarked on the first day.

No thank you. I went for a run around the neighborhood the other day in shorts and a T-shirt. Ahhh, I do enjoy it being warm here is south GA.No treadmill for this guy as I can't stand running and not going anywhere. Did however throw on the snowshoes, grabbed a rifle and headed out the back door for a 4 mile tour Saturday. Was hoping to bag a yote or two, but all I could chase up were deer. Temps were actually above zero (barely) so it wasn't too bad.
Rifle did get a tad frosty though.
Yeah, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to visiting a warmer climate. It pretty much sucks here.

I'm guessing the group will be back together within 3 episodes. Knowing that the Governor was still out there and the fact they looked semi prepared to defend or "bug out", it would only make sense that they would have a back up rendezvous location established. Kinda thinking baby Judith is still alive as well. During the previews they showed the two little girls carrying the big duffel bag. I think they are going to reunite her with Rick and Carl at some point just to create an emotional moment in the show. Pure speculation of course......it's kinda fun to guess where the show is going.

Just curious what everyone's take on mag pouches for the XDm 9mm/.40. Been using the XDm for 3 years in both pistol and 3gun and keep going back to the factory supplied mag pouch even though I hate how the second mag is canted rearwards. What I do like is the fact they are canted slightly away from the body.
I have both Blade-tech and Comp-Tac mag pouches and I don't care for either of them. They both go too far up the mag and unless you get a perfect vertical pull they want to bind. The Comp-Tac's are a clip on design and will just pull right off my belt. The Blade-Tech's (with Teck-locs) which I just got are extremely tight and even with the screws backed all the way out try to rip my belt completely off.
Does anyone make a mag pouch that has a smooth release and is still tight enough to withstand the rigors of 3gun.
I ended up keeping my xdm and since you bought my pouches I had to get new ones. I got 2 pieces of advice for you, I have heard if kydex pouches are too tight you can carefully heat them with a heat gun and wiggle a mag around in them for more space. If you want the perfect pouch you will want the daa aluminum race master, 60 bucks a pop but once you pull a mag out you will think it's the best money you ever spent, very very secure but feels like butter coming out. I ordered 2 from shooters connection Wednesday and they came in Thursday. Sry u don't like the blade techs.
Hey don't worry about it. I did the research and a lot of people really like them, they just didn't work for me. The gear we all use is very personal and what what works for one doesn't always work for another. That's why this site has such a busy marketplace section.

Like Shooter 155 has mentioned, I am also curious about unslinging a long gun with a "loaded and holstered pistol".
I don't have a problem with it, just wanted to to raise the level of awareness that there would be the chance of a sling getting caught on a pistol. So far I've seen 2 pistols become unintentionally jacked out of non retention holsters. Something about a hot weapon spinning through the air that makes me uneasy
Stages look awesome with the exception we don't get live grenades
Really looking forward to this match.
-
Just an observation here. While browsing the stages I noticed 2 stages where you'll be manipulating and abandoning a slung long gun while having a hot pistol. Slings can be pretty easy to get hooked on the grip of a pistol under match speed and pressure. If you aren't already running a holster with some sort of positive retention you might want to lend it some consideration.

Quads work well for some and not so much for others, I am currently in the latter group but I'm trying. The quickest and easiest to pick up is duals and that is what I would recommend for someone just starting out. Taccom has some really good gear at reasonable prices.
-
This is a first. We get to throw grenades!!
-
Going on my 3rd year using the Taccom Dualoads and they run great. I've done some pretty hard belly flops dropping to prone and haven't been able to break or bend them in any way.

I think Brownell's had a decent range about an hour east of Des Moines too. I'd love to see something get started up.
I've never been to the Brownells range. Do they have the capacity to host a major? IA would actually be great central location for an upper midwest match.
-
zombies in the heartland is pretty sweet. Grand island NE... But thats probably 7-10 hours from anywhere MN.
Yeah I've looked at that in the past since it's only 7 hours away, the closest major for me is CMMG and is 10 hours. Then I get to the zombies, costume contest and random prize table. Would way rather have just a regular match.
The Nordic shotgun match during mid summer is always pleasant.
Awesome match.....and even more awesome, cause I don't 500 miles to get there
Minnesota 3-Gun group seems to be doing a good job of growing the sport.
Agreed. I've only been shooting 3-gun for a couple years, but in that time the local matches have steadily grown both in the number of competitors and in the depth of the talent.
-
I did talk to a local outfitter/sporting goods retailer in our area a while back, that has enough land to do a natural terrain match similar to Blueridge, but they didn't seem at all interested in the idea for liability reasons.
I'm not targeting MN in general (though that would be great), but the whole upper midwest. I just find it hard to believe that there's not a venue that could host a major match within 500 miles.
-
This is not a gripe, but more so a start to a conversation. Why are there no major multi-gun matches in the upper mid-west? It seems to me a large majority of the biggest match sponsors (bless their hearts) are from the upper midwest, i.e JP Industries, DPMS, Nordic Components, Brownells, Taccom, RCI, Hornady and most likely a few I've left out.
How how is it we can have so many big hitters in the industry right in our back yard, but still have to drive 500+ miles to attend any major match? Granted we do have an awesome shotgun match thanks to the MN 3-Gun Group. But I still wonder why there's nothing even remotely close for major 3-gun matches.
Is it range facility? Lack of someone to take the reigns? No regional support? Lack of volunteers? Like I said, this is not a gripe, I'm just trying to figure this out. I know the DPMS Tri-Gun was shut down a year before I got into 3-gun for BS legal reasons, but man, there has to be the resources somewhere in the the area to pick up the torch.
There has to be somewhere up here that could hold a major match between MN, WI, IA, ND, SD, MI or NE. We've got some phenomenal 3-gun shooters here and the best sponsors in the sport. Yet no "home field" match. What happened?
Please discuss.

Good tread. I've earned myself a few blisters on longer shotgun stages and I also hate wearing gloves while shooting.
Precision AR upper build?

Agree with this completely. I have 4 of them on rifles and am soon to have a 5th. Simply can not be beat for the $$.
