  1. What if someone is not able to shoot a coopers tunnel and has to bypass for physical issue what penalty should be applied. Example bad back, wheel chair... how do we score that stage?
  2. Hopefully this isn't to newbie of a question but I kinda am, what role does the baseplate serve that I need to get Springer or someone else baseplates to replace factory baseplates. I did buy the springers but that was just taking advice besides using it to extend your mag why? I would like to understand the mechanics of it as mags for my sp01 have been a bad issue lately, nose-down issues. I have bought nickel mags and +10 springs now no issues so far.
  3. Jam like that , something is impeding the follower from moving freely. Either dirt, OAL of bullet.I am loading 1.125 with 135 fmj and everything is running fine. Stu what is the best cleaner to make sure the mag is clean and what else would you suggest to help keep it running smooth in the mag.
  4. I have had the same problem, cleaned mags and new 10+ springs still having some issues. I have change OAL from 1.10-1.08 I have tried 146 and 135s n320 3.6. This happens with 5 of my 6 mags, not sure what the issue is but it sucks to have a great stage going and then get this jam occurs.
  5. This may seems like a strange questions but on the stages is the ground sandy, loose soil, gravel, dirt, clay....? Was just wondering as one of the videos a shooter lost his footing in what looked like mud. In the southeast all the clubs I shoot at use a lot of loose gravel.
  6. I think it was about 1.5 to 2 weeks quicker than they had estimated. Its funny going from a polymer gun to steel is a big difference in that the weight does have an impact. I had developed a pre-ignition push with my other gun. I'm shooting groups at 25 yrds to get rid of it.
  7. You may want to look at shooting a steel match to get your son use to the timer, pressure and develop gun handling skill without the movement. I think you should take your son with you and get what fits his hand and he is comfprtable with. I started with an HK p30 due to a thumb injury and have moved on to a CZ shadow since my hand has gotten stronger. Plus letting him help pick out the gun will develop ownership of the gun. Good Luck.
  8. Thanks Eric that's good news I have a lot of black bullet 147s that was what I was using my other gun. I just got my shadow in can't wait To shoot looking forward to some great practice time.
  9. Hey congrats on getting off your butt and moving I too got moving and going lost pds dude if nothing else shooting gave me back some years. I'm not far from where you are in your progress I picked up my first pistol June 2011 and shot my first match that month. Like you store bought ammo cost was high and money was an issue at the time so I bought the Dillion Sq deal. Great machine no issues, I wish I had had the money for the 650 but hey you have to start some where. Also search loads on the site for your gun. Ditto on Powder Valley. Books get Seeklanders book he is big on getting in shape, drills and mental game, also Bens book is great very practical info makes it simple, both go together well. When you can get some training I have had Ben Stoegers training class great class, my time improved dramatically as I picked up points on targets ( about 3 sec a stage) and going through the stages faster (2 to 3 seconds faster) about 6 seconds a stage on IDPA and at a major match that's a bunch. I'm saving money and looking to get some individual training this December it will help with your weaknesses. Also go shoot a Sectional or State match try to squad with guys you know or get in a Squad with same Division guys, its kind of humbling to go to a big match and see how good most of the shooters are there and the learning curve is big at those matches. Plus you get to make some good friends at those matches as this is a small world where you get to see those same guys over and over at matches.
  10. From your profile its seems you are the man I was told to have my trigger work done at your shop. I hope the target gets in soon I would like to have to time to prep before major matchs start back heavy in the south in Jan. I hope I have the right person one of my training friends that I see at major matches said you were the man outside of someone in cajun country.
  11. I've ordered a CZ target already and one custom gun shop list this as one reason to use them: Barrel is reamed and freebored to allow for JHPs and 147sthis as one of the upgrades they do on their Targets. This is not the shop I order from. I'm still learning a lot about guns and CZs, so why do this and should everyone do this and if you don't do this can your shoot 147s in a gun that is not reamed and freebored. Other custom shops don't list this as an option when you buy the Target. Is that bad ..... I have had one ordered since early June from another shop and wondering if I should switch. And thus one of the reasons it sucks to have to wait so long on a gun you have to much time to what if.... Plus everyone starts to tell you why you should've used someone else ahhhh. I love the way the target shoots and spending so much on production gun I want it right from the get go if that is possible.
  12. I was looking into using bayou 147gr with n320, thats what I'm shooting now in my HK. Very accurate for me.
  13. I'm about to get the the shadow but I was wanting to know what experinece has taught you guys as to what bullet shoots the best with this gun?
  14. Vogel is shooting a finely tuned Glock and his skill level is through the roof but if the gun didn't feel right to him would he have done as well. I think it would be hard for him to switch to another gun now also. In one of my training sesssions the pro was hard pressed to even consider changing guns even though his was old and starting to really have some wear and tear.
  15. I really tend to agree with you on this after running some matches just those few seconds here and there add up. Practice, dry fire and training still rule but if you can sight in a touch better and hit a couple more 'A's and don't throw one then it adds up. On a large match that 2 seconds a stage could mean 24 sec. total, that does add up.
  16. I use another timer but I would set your par time as a guide and goal. Start out getting a normal no rush par time then start dropping the par time in .10's. I don't think it will pickup the trigger pulls but may. Par times.
  17. If you are using an off the shelf production gun, how would switching to an upscale production gun like a CZ 75 have on your score? Has anybody done any actual research on this? Would your overall score go from say 55% to 65% score more or less or no difference at all? I know its about me as a shooter ( doing the work: dry fire, live fire, training and matches) but as an intermediate shooter I was just wondering how the gun impacts my scores as you here so much chatter from all the gun companies and their shooters about how much better I would be if I use their gun. Is it Hype some Truth or enough Truth to be valid enough and worth the $$$$ and increase in score. I guess what I am getting to is (perceived or real) performance increase vs $$$ and would there be an increase or is it just perception. too many scores up top...
  18. I am relatively new to the sport (20 months) as the AL sectional a year ago was my first major and I was able to shoot 5 other majors last year. I was wonder what is good prep for a large major match. I am shooting 3 matches a month right now, dry fire 4xs wk 15-30 min. per session and 2 live fire session a wk of about 200-250 rds per session. I'm using Ben's books right now for dry and live fire practice. Also would it be better to shoot a match the week before the Al Sectional or to practice aspects of the stages posted. I would have to travel about 3 hours to find a good USPSA match. Thank you for your wisdom in this matter.
  19. I am in the market right now and I am trying to stay with production class guns in 9mm. I shoot a P30 right now but I was wondering what other guns might be a good fit. I love my P30, fits my hand I just would like to get a longer barrel (maybe 5') and better trigger action. I'm still new to the sport and have limited experince with other guns. I would appreicate any suggestion.
  20. Ben, how much do you use your .22 in practice to cut down on the cost.
