  1. If you have someone that can drill a new mount that is definitely easier as the welding will discolor the frame. I think you will be happier with this resolution I hate when someone hacks a good open instead of doing it right the first time
  2. What mount do you have on there now ? I would just tig weld the holes you won't have any problems with the metal if done right ! I weld on metal thinner than this everyday that have way more pressure tha a frame !
  3. Best way to move up is to take classes for local gm's or take a max Michael class and they can notice what your doing wrong in just a few hours . These types of classes helped me shoot smother and faster without feeling rushed. Also the drills I did in these classes i do in practice and as I have gotten better modify them for a new challenge.
  4. If cha-lee is running a 18 mainspring and 7 lbs recoil spring what are other spring setups for 9major open guns ?
  5. Absolutely yes on a open gun . Best table prop for those unloaded starts.
  6. The bayou shoot really well but where I notice a major difference is at 40 and 50 yard groups this is where Montana golds or xtp make a big difference
  7. Not as accurate as a jhp but close. Yes they are cheaper than montana gold and others when buying in large bulk for multiple open shooters in a house hold
  8. I shoot them in 9major practice they work good. I've shot these out to fifty yards with good results.
  9. I remove my mount screws like davsco suggested
  10. 9major for capacity you won't be sorry I've owned a 40 open and it was great . My 9major is " flatter and has less torque as early stated .
  11. see if some one you shoot with local has a svi or mbx mag you can try or maybe even a sti 38 super mag that has been tuned every gun is a little different
  12. I load out to 1.175 as a mininum there's nothing wrong with spacers all 1911 style guns were designed to be loaded longer that's why 38 supercomp is used in most open guns to help feeding issues
  13. I run all my 9mm mags no spacers svi or sti and load longer solved all my feeding issues but the feed lips have got to be correct. I bought some mbx mags 6000 rounds later not a problem in any of my guns
  14. I used one of the new models with rearward baffles
  15. I've been testing a ti and steel comps on open guns for several months. I've tested these comps on Akai , ck arms, freedom gun works, mc learn, bedell, svi and several others . My test was for a soft "flatter" shooting gun. The guys I let test this for me were men with arthritis and other hand problems as a hard hitting recoil gun is felt by these guys easier as it starts to hurt hands quickly. My findings are as follows I was able to use these on 9 major and 38 super comp and different Barrel port configurations. These worked better on all the guns with the exception of the Akai v8 porting .Some of the manufactures above had a 10% - 30% reduction in felt recoil, as well as a smother shooting gun with less dot movement . We tested these with the factory comp then replaced it with a lonestar comp. I don't shoot for lonestar or have any affiliation with them other than I bought some of their comps to try . I was able to test these comps against all other commercial comps on the market this is what everyone chose as a better comp. If you like tinkering with your guns buy one of these comps, you won't be dissapointed. As with all open guns we tested, and there were lots, the supercomp is softer with more gas to work the systems, but there were some 9major that worked very well .
  16. There is no way to make a open quiet unless you take off the comp . I own a steel master and several other open guns and at least thirty different comps and they are all loud. Ear plugs and ear muffs the only way to shoot open .
  17. You should 115 gr bullets before changing comps this worked best for my setup
  18. Unless you have a comp reamer and tap and die it's gonna be difficult .all comps must be reamed to the bore of the barrel to be aligned correctly
  19. I have one open gun with three 1/8 holes and one with four 3/16 holes both are using the awesome lone star innovation comp.Same load can't tell any difference between the two both shot really flat with hs6 or 3n38
  20. Less rotating mass ,easier to stop and start on the cylinder stop less wear and just makes the gun easier to balance and shoot . Ti cylinders also ale the trigger pull smoother it is a big noticeable difference in my opinion
  21. Which extractor are you having the best success with aftec or standard extractor thanks for the help
  22. I agree with kneelingatlas I've drill pressed a bunch of revolver barrels and then shoot a few Montana gold bullets down the barrel no burrs and no problems with groups
  23. Keep us updated when you put the rearward 10 degree barrel holes
  24. Iam looking for feed back on different popple configuration for 9 major
