  1. I've had this problem with MecGar mags. Switched to all CZ mags and problem disappeared. Go figure....
  2. Wait! I'm supposed to print out the application? Then fill it out with a Pen/Pencil? And then handwrite a check? Then put it in an envelope, fill out the envelope, stick a stamp on it and drop it in a mailbox? I am not sure if I remember how to do all that! Come to think of it, I know for a fact my kids could not do this if asked! What happened to an online form with credit card payment?
  3. So you assume this is a USPSA event. It was never stated that that it was or that I am running shooters in an USPSA event. I understand thAt USPSA has rules and if I ever run a USPSA stage, I will follow those. In the meantime, if I can lessen the risk of an accident by changing the Show Clear command, I will.
  4. As explained in the story, I got ahead of the RO. These days, When I am running shooters, in the stage briefing, I specifically make it a point that they cannot get ahead of me. I have also changed the command to 'Show ME clear', instead of 'Show Clear'.
  5. Brian, any chance I can get my hands on your Journal......
  6. So I'm loving my CZ. A buddy of mine who reloads made a comment that the pistol is sprung for lighter competition loads and maybe, if shooting commercial loads, it may be sprung too light. I typically shoot 115gr 9mm from Sellier and Bellot. This ammo is known to be hotter than normal. Is there any fact to the statement that the custom pistol may benefit from heavier recoil springs? Does any one know the recoil spring pounds that the CZ Custom Shop puts in these custom pistols? Also, I have about 7 different recoil spring for a Tangfoglio CZ clone, any one know if they can be used in the CZ75? Thanks!
  7. Several novel ideas are being considered; First shoot is no longer free, shooter pays the normal fee and gets a membership. Problem is that current membership is $50 per year and shoots are $20. Only way that would be fair is if membership is reduced to $20 for everyone. Another idea, non-members pay $30 instead of $20, and after 5 shoots, they are automatically given membership. Regarding any USPSA issue, the salient point is that there is ONLY one USPSA event a month. If indeed USPSA rules do not allow the exclusion to a shoot based on membership (a concept that has yet to be substantiated) then this would only apply to that one shoot, not the 5 other shoots occurring during the month.
  8. Missouri, the SHOW ME state, is right next door. So somebody please show me the federal tax code that spells that out. Like I said, I am a member of two clubs (well, 3 clubs total, and a 4th whenever I can make it up to PASA park, PASA requires membership also to shoot their matches, but it is just $15 dollars and you get your first match free). So two of the clubs I have membership to have two different policies about shooting matches by non-members. At the one club, it is a 3 matches only by non-members. If the IRS tax code specifically spells out only X percentage of money revenue can be from non-members, then that rule doesn't make all that much sense. And at least by what I have seen/heard who is a member vs. who isn't a member isn't tracked all that closely, if at all, especially if it really is something required by a federal agency. Read IRS tax code for 501©7 organizations. Whether it makes sense to you or not is irrelevant, it is tax law. See http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-tege/eotopicg80.pdf Specifically states precedent where if more than 17% of revenue comes from non-members the exception status is at risk.
  9. There is a lot more to this situation than what the OP mentioned. Main issue is that the Club's not for profit standing is in jeopardy due to the large number of non-member shooters. Different proposals are being evaluated to satisfy the IRS requirement of having a min % of revenue coming from members. Also, the only USPSA event is once a month. If any issues surrounding the requirement of being a member to shoot, it would only apply to this monthly shoot.
  10. Don't wait too long, price goes up on January 15th. Some hotels are also completely booked. Sent in my registration today as well as made my hotel ressie today. Are you talking about the FL Open, or Area 6? FL Open.
  11. Don't wait too long, price goes up on January 15th. Some hotels are also completely booked. Sent in my registration today as well as made my hotel ressie today.
  12. Registration opens on January 15 and according to MatchSignup there are 96 openings.
  13. Note to self: Nix the stroller idea, and enough with the "honey, the firearms are my business partner's, I'm just storing them for him in my safe"....
  14. Anyone have any videos from last year's match? I would like to see an example of the stages before I contribute my entrance fee (no chance of me winning...). Thanks
  15. Man....as I see those pictures I can only think one thing..... I'm going to spend a lot of money on this sport... After spending a fortune on production gear, I will spend another fortune on Open gear.... Kinda of sad that ths was te first thought that came to mind.....
  16. Been doing USPSA type shooting for over a year now. Seems like I can “Show Clear”, “Hammer Down”, “Holster” in my sleep. Come to think of it, I don’t even recall the movements while I am doing it, seems like they are buried in the subconscious and the actions come naturally. How can this procedure, repeated ad-nauseam possibly be screwed up? How can a seasoned aircraft pilot forget to lower the landing gear? Well, it happened to me and I have learned a valuable lesson… Simple stage: start sitting down, on buzzer stand up, load magazine, and engage the targets with standard dual hand grip. When done, clear firearm, place back on table. Repeat twice. On subsequent strings, shoot with strong arm and finally with weak hand. Stage went smooth until the completion of the final string. RO issues command, “if done, show clear” Mind takes over, “Let’s do the steps we have done a million times before” Only difference now is that pistol is in weak hand. An additional step is required; shifting pistol from weak hand to strong hand. Upon performing this one additional task, mind incorrectly checks off the first step of the clearing procedure. Mind is also running through a finely tuned timeframe perfectly in sync with the RO… Second step, clear gun by racking the slide. “Must have worked, because a round is ejected… “ Auto pilot is now fully engaged… Did not notice that that slide did not lock back… “RO is a bit slow, let me get ahead of him….” Mind issues command “Hammer Down” Hammer goes down, Pistol goes “BOOM” Mind goes “Whoa! Was not expecting this, could of sworn the round was ejected. Maybe it was not. Well it is now, let’s put the hammer down…” Pistol goes “BOOM” Mind goes out of autopilot and I take over…”WTF! “. Look at the pistol and sure enough magazine is still in. RO ensures that we are all clear and I DQ myself and put away my gear (it was not a match, just a pistol shoot but I needed to drive the point home in my mind). Lessons Learned: Take mind out of auto-pilot when loading or clearing Do not get ahead of the RO And from one noob to all the other noobs: The one thing that kept this AD from becoming a catastrophic event was, that buried in my subconscious and acting on autopilot, I kept the gun, AT ALL TIMES, pointed downrange.
  17. Not be cheap and buy the best equipment from the get go. Took a circuitous route and spent twice as much as if I had just bought correct from the get go. My advice to any ones starting out is buy it right from the start.
  18. I concur on the FO rod. Saw it happen twice to one of my team mates at the Monster Match. That is quite a list. Thanks!
  19. Yeah, not sure I want to pack a mallet and punches as well. I have a CZ Clone that I'll take to matches just in case I have a major malfunction. As soon as I pay this one off, I'll be looking for another CZ..... What an expensive hobby....
  20. Thanks for the input. After giving it some thought, FO rod, Slide stop, and recoil spring may be the only parts I would feel comfortable changing at a match. Better to have a second back up pistol in the event something else broke.
  21. I have found that movie recreations of books I love are an utter fail. When i lived on the Island of St John USVI, I dragged all of my friends to watch The Prince of Tides as it is one of my favorite books. It was shockingly bad. The fact that we had to go to the neighboring Island of St. Thomas to watch it made it all the worse as we had to catch a ferry ride over, catch a cab to the movie theater, and of course we missed the ferry back and had to spend the night in St. Thomas. Although the rest of the night was and is still a blur, I cannot forget the utter disappointment in the movie when compared to the book.
  22. apple fanboy household here: 2 iMacs, 3 iPhone 4's, 3 iPod touch, 1 iPod shuffle, apple tv ,ttime machine extreme router, and housewide airport extreme network deployed. It just works. Got lion on the newest iMac. Lion will be known as Apple's Vista. If you are on Snow Leopard and considering upgrading, don't do it! Wait till they roll back many of the stupid features and fix all the incompatibilities. I cannot believe Steve Jobs would of allowed this OS to be released if he had been more involved in the development.
  23. Start them young and early!
  24. Furthest shot - 100 yards - against a metal gong. Not too hard with 9mm CZ Shadow Target - but when we slipped the .22LR conversion... well bullet drop is something like 6 inches over the 100 yards.. Much more challenging.
  25. I signed up for this and now I am inundated with MMS messages. I was surprised at how many packages are received at home and business.
