  1. i like using Surplus Ammo. been awhile since i ordered but i think my shipping was free with my large order. out of the 2,000 i have gone through i have only found one wrong caliber. as stated before range brass is the way to go.
  2. yea he had the problem with factory loads also. i just told him he needed to break the gun in. eventually we just polished out the ramp and factory runs smooth.
  3. sorry the only crimp on the round is a basic taper crimp that is part of the Lee seating die. the loader i set him up with is a lee pro 1000 (3 holes). i guess will just buy another press with 4 holes so i can run the crimp. Yeah i know i can just use a single stage, but i would like to expand my bench and reloaders anyway. I have 4 right now and i would like to have one for each pistol caliber i load and 2 for rifles.
  4. Three possible issues come to mind: Improper sizing of the brass - recommend an EGW/Lee Undersize sizing die (AKA U-die). Improper crimp - recommend Lee FCD OAL too long for that particular pistol - shorten OAL as required If you don't have a case gauge, recommend you get one and check EVERY round prior to firing. Another method of checking rounds, which some will argue is superior to the case gauge is to disassemble the pistol and drop check EVERY round into the barrel prior to firing - if it drops completely into and out of the barrel freely, then the round is OK for that barrel and any malfunctions can be traced to the gun and not the ammo. i feel safe on the OAL length but i will play around with it. im to try and make a smaller flare and make sure it isnt scraping the coating and lead off the bullet when seating. if that doesnt work then i will just set up a factory crimp as suggested. Im getting my dad interested in reloading and teaching him the basics and i hope this doesnt discourage him from loading. as far as case gauges go i feel they are a waste of money. i have always used the barrels of my rifle after the round was fire formed and it is just a habit i have carried over the my pistol rounds. thanks for the help
  5. right now im not putting a crimp on it at all. the last time i messed with crimps was when i was loading my rifle rounds. none of my hand gun rounds required me to crimp.
  6. I need yalls great advice here. I am not new to reloading, but just new to loading 45 for a 1911. My dad want to get into IDPA with his carry gun ( Kimber compact pro) just for more trigger time and great practice shooting it. He is not in it to try to compete hardcore, just having fun and gaining experience with his carry. Well I set up one of my loaders for 45 and I'm teaching him how to reload. Every reload that goes in his gun will not go into to battery. He has had this problem before with someone else's loads and everyone at the range kept saying you need a factory crimp die. Well I told him since he only has 500 rounds down the pipe he may want to polish his feed ramo and the gun ran fine. The reloads do have a small lip on them and I'm thinking that I could change the flare and maybe that will help. I figure once it seated the bullet that the flaring shouldn't be a problem but the lip is still catching and not going into battery. The guy who loaded the rounds for him shot with him with his Taurus 1911 and it ran great. I'm not sure if the bull barrel on the Kimber has a really tight throat or what. Should I just buy a factory crimp die and call it a day? Will that solve the problem? I'm hesitant on using the crimp bc he is loading bayou bullets and I'm not sure how that will mess up the coating. I just need some guidance on the issue. I only shoot glocks and it will chamber anything damn 1911s won't. I want him to stop buying 1911s but he has already made up his mind on a new Wilson combat and another Kimber. . Load specs: 230gn bayou bullet, 4.8 gn bullseye, 1.241 avg. OAL Sorry for spelling and other problems. I'm typing this on an iPad.
  7. Not a fancy set you like most of yall with the Dillions...but it pumps out some loads. once I rearrange and add on to my bench I will have my RCBS and my shot shell reloader mounted. I really dont care if i take up my whole garage..its for parking bullets, kayaks, and 4wheelers. The trucks can sit outside
  8. Agree with all of the above. Plus employee appearance. doesnt matter what your selling...its a business...dress, look, and act like a respectable person at least. There is a local gun shop in my town where this man sits on his stool and doesnt get up, wears old overalls, staring at people like a racist grouch who drives me up the wall. Thought he was just horrible to me until i found out he is like that to everyone regardless of who you are. "example...walk in needing sights installed on a kimber compact pro and man tells me we only work on american products........)
  9. Titegroup has been metering well for me @ 3.4 for my 180gn 40s&w and 4.6 for my 155's
  10. There was an 8 year old girl shooting steel challenge in my flight last weekend who did great with her S&W 422. it was the shorter barrel with a really nice aimpoint. It was the smallest aimpoint i think they have which was great for that light gun. She was able to handle the mag release and slide function prefectly. She out shot some of the grown mean using red dots and def. out shot some of the ppl using iron sights with their .22...Actually on one stage she did better than me with my G35 since i have 4 high primers in a row.
  11. I did very fast ( as fast as I could) burn taps with the smallest tip. Mine is not agressive looking like some of the others, but is very grippy to me. I did it for function, not looks. Just doesn't seem to be functional enough to me. May just send it off
  12. I gave it a shot on a polymer mag, grips, etc just for practice and finally found the style i like. tried it it on a small part of a glock frame and i was not happy at all. It looked great but i thought it would be more aggressive than it was. the glock polymer melted completely different than my practice material and it just seemed to be to smooth. I am currently using stair nonslip decking tape with is Aggressive as can be and i love it. I just traced made a template from my Talon grip tape i bought awhile ago. thought stippling would save time and money replacing the tape. are yalls grips coming out aggressive or does it just give it a nice texture for looks?
  13. any more progress and pics to your build? Im still struggling on the length of the 35 with the comp...think i may just go ahead and buy a G22 slide. would love to see some pics still.
  14. whats the deal with N320. i have to drive out to dallas just to find a vendor. havent seen it at a gun show in a very long time.
  15. Titegroup for major and minor in my .40. I got a jug of HS-6 for really cheap so im going to see what i can do with that.
  16. What tip did you use? this one.... Assuming that is a wood burner then. thanks Used tip pretty close to that one or prob the same, practiced on several other things and it looked good. The texture did not feel good though. There was any increase in grip bc texture was not aggressive enough. If start lean towards stippling I will just send my Hun in.
  17. I was out of bullets and had nothing better to do. You should have saw my master piece from last night.... 1000 bayous & 1000 rainers. Great until my dog wanted to play and knocked them all down
  18. Hmm so I shouldn't worry about my missing screw and keep on gunning? Good to know. Guess I will take that stock rod out and keep going with my other one.
  19. what's the benefit of an uncaptured guide rid vs capture? Thinking about getting a jager extended glock 35 guide rod. I have a SS captured one now that the screw somehow came out or a buddy who used my gun decided to tinker with it and switch springs and didn't glue the screw back. What are yalls thoughts?
  20. Reload you some and see what works for you. Think I may get some today load them and give them a try until my neighbors get butt hurt from all the noise. The last time I loaded that low if a PF thd RO made me clear my gun and check the barrel. talking a mouse fart load... Don't think my powder measure was metering the powder I was using that well.
  21. 180 seem to be softer for me for steel shooting. Less felt recoil... But that my opinion.
  22. just recently bought some and love them. Barrel seems to be fine.
  23. Got my bayou bullets today and wish i had ordered more than a 100 pack sample. Shot most of them in my lil range behind the house.... guess i will have a 1,000 on order soon.
  24. Wow!!! some really nice setups. Makes me ashamed to post a pic of mine with its collection of LEE presses lol...
