  1. To use the flat trigger system in a poly, you will need a longer trigger pin or bolt or whatever its called that the trigger pivots on. The poly frame is wider than the steel frame. Also on my steel frame there's an upside down "U-shaped" notch in the frame on the side where the the nut goes. My poly doesn't have that notch to retain the nut and keep it from rotating. I considered trying to find a longer bolt but wimped out and punted (but with a deflated ball so it wouldn't go too far). You can still improve the trigger feel either by doing it yourself following the instructions posted by one of the gurus here or by paying one of the known gunsmiths that work on Tanfos. The trigger on my poly wiggles less from side to side than my Match used to. I bought H's flat trigger for the Match because the bottom of the trigger could be pushed to the side far enough that it was approaching the edge of the triggerguard and I was worried that I might have an A.D when reholstering someday. Good luck. Greg Cote or EAA have excellent magazines for these pistols at good prices. Cote didn't carry the 10mm mags last I checked though.
  2. I agree with Joe4d. Also to the OP, because of your screen name- My Match accepts .40 S&W cartridges loaded at 1.25" O.A.L. [with the K-10 (10mm)] mags (with Bayou and BBI coated bullets) and feeds flawlessly. I'd play around with a fairly fast powder to get however much velocity you need to knock down the steel plates. The plates I've shot seem to prefer 180 grain bullets at moderate velocities and the distances haven't been long enough to make the bullet trajectory an issue. Just sight it in at the most common distance and practice a lot. Just my two cents.
  3. My guess is that the spacer itself stiffens the mag body and reduces the swelling. I expect Grams makes a follower for the K40 mag because its got to be a bigger seller than one for the 10mm (the K-10) magazine. If you want to go with the standard .40 S&W length cartridges, I would send the 10mm springs and followers back and ask them to exchange them for the .40 ones.
  4. Sounds like they ordered a newer square slide full sized polymer framed Tanfo to make the new holsters from after dukeguy and I contacted them. Blade-Tech has always seemed to be pretty squared away, except the last time I dealt with them. The Brian Enos Forum Rules!
  5. Last I checked Greg Cote wasn't selling the K-10 mags. EAA has stocked them at 3 for & $75 plus shipping (I haven't ordered in a while though). I don't know if there is a difference between the K40 and the K10 other than the spacer, but both have worked flawlessly for me with the correct length cartridges. I load the .40 long because I can go from minor pf to major pf to 10mm loads just changing powder (& quantity) and recoil springs and they all feed flawlessly in my gun. The K10 mags (with Grams springs and followers and Hennings base pads) that I have hold 19 reloadable without swelling, but I understand the K40 holds more. I'm just more concerned about learning to shoot better than winning the local matches so I don't care. I'll probably never win a local match again let alone topple someone like Brian or Rob from the top. YMMV.
  6. I bought a Glaco out-side the waistband "pancake" style holster for a Sig-Sauer 226 (for my full sized polymer framed Tanfo). It works well but tilts the muzzle back and the grip forward in the old FBI slant position. I had a local shoe repair guy put five extra stitches under where the triggerguard goes to locate the pistol where I wanted it. I would prefer the pistol was vertical because that's the way the holster I use for my Match for the majority of my practice positions it. But if you practice with both, your brain will adapt. Trust me on this, I learned to shoot left eye dominant with both eyes open- back in the late eighties.
  7. I've fired over 12,000 rounds at 1.23" O.A.L. in .40 S&W with a large frame pistol (Match) and the K-10 mags without a failure to feed, so far its worked for me. Hennings extended magazine base pad and Grams spring and follower give me 19 reloadable. Really nice, but kind of expensive. I'm using 180 grain Bayou and BBI bullets.
  8. Isn't some Blazer made with aluminum cases?
  9. Oh, you can't get a Blade-Tech holster for the newer square slide polymer Tanfoglio at this time and it appears that they haven't decided whether to even make holsters for it. I ordered one last fall (September 2014) and received a holster that I expected would have been perfect for the older round slide pistol, but it didn't work with the newer square slide. I sent them pictures and advised them of the slide configuration change and asked when I could expect the holster to be available. They said they would look into it. A week or so ago (four months later), I emailed them about whether the new holsters were ready and someone there had apparently dropped the ball. I had to resend the pictures and explain it all over again. It seems that the production line boss hasn't ordered one of these pistols to use in making a mold, so they can't make any holsters for these pistols. I was told to check back every 6 to 12 months. It appears that they haven't decided whether its worth it to make a holsters for the full sized polymer. FYI, if you like the Blade-Tech holsters as I do and have a Tanfo full sized polymer pistol.
  10. you can try mine when you get here. (cz sp-01 shadow, i also have an STI trojan 1911 in 45) i try to shoot the uspsa match at sir walter gun club in creedmoor NC the first saturday of each month which is right next to raleigh. also www.ncsection.org has most all the monthy uspsa matches in north carolina listed This is awesome. Good on ya! As far as etiquette for trying others guns; 1-Unsolicited offers like this 2- Show up to a match, introduce yourself to the match director and ask if you can hang out and learn. Be polite and happy, ask questions, offer to help out. ( when someone comes to watch they can quickly learn how to paste targets) If you do this I all but guarantee you will have multiple offers of equipment help. If you have awesome boobs even more so Luckily we all consider "awesome" to be something different. And some of us are even heterosexual women. I think it was part of God's plan so we wouldn't be fighting even more than we are. Otherwise good advice above, people!
  11. Yes, I've got one (but in .40 S&W) and I like it. Its light (compared to my Witness Match), but the trigger isn't nearly as good as my Match (which is SA- single action). Its not that the trigger requires a strong pull to fire its more its just not as smooth and crisp as the Match. It can be used either DS/SA or you can cock the hammer, engage the safety and use it SA. Mine has been flawlessly reliable, but I don't shoot as many rounds through it as I do the Match, I bought it as a carry gun not primarily as a range gun. The Tanfos are great pistols in my opinion (especially for their price) and the triggers can be improved by polishing the internal parts and changing some springs if you're a good at that kind of thing. Some of the guys here have written extensively about these improvements with step by step instructions. Good luck.
  12. PapaBonez/Stephen- You say you put 200,000 rounds through your pistol? Either you make a lot more money than me or you've reloaded for years (in which case you should have been able to set up a Dillon 550B. I don't want to accuse a guy of not being honest, but you haven't posted since December 2013 and have a grand total of seven posts.
  13. I don't shoot .45 anymore (free .40 brass-what can I say?), but I have over ten thousand rounds through my .40 Witness Elite Match (with many of them SWC, before I switched to Bayou and BBI coated bullets) without any failures to feed. I load at 1.23" OAL and use 10mm mags, so maybe Mick is onto something.
  14. jaep/herctser- you might try lightly polishing the extractor as well. I'm certain that I read about it here and you can probably find the old thread(s) about it or maybe find some pistolsmith to do it for you. But mostly I'd try to find a really clean powder, so far we have NV-320, Clays and WST mentioned and whatever Nealio uses. From the rumor mill, NV-320 is the best but expensive. Clays is outstanding for minor, but a little fast for major unless you're running O.A.L lengths at 1.18" or better. And WST is reverse temperature sensitive. Of course all pistol powders are scarce now, good luck.
  15. jaep1911- You might want to play around with your powder, I clean every 300 rounds or so because I enjoy cleaning, but have never had to give anything extra attention (like the extractor). Clays and WST are really clean. Oh, I just re-read the part about your factory reloads, sorry, my bad.
  16. I compared it to my others and the plating is better than Tanfoglio's. Who did the hard chrome?
  17. There are best powders and available powders. There are also people without powder and some who stockpiled it before the great panic. The factory cartridge shortage seems to be slowly going away in my area. I expect the powder supply will start catching up after the shelves are full of factory ammo (factory ammo makes them more money). In less than two years from now, there will be both a federal presidential election and a Senate election and either may change the balance of power (and powder). Hope for the best and as Tiny Tim said, "God bless us all, each and everyone."
  18. Grumpy- Thanks. So that's why they went with a momentum based power factor, instead of energy. Sounds like you used slide rules too back in the day. How about computer "punch cards"? Atlas- When I wrote that I like all three calibers I should have mentioned that I meant I believe each would work effectively for self defense if the shots were placed well. That said, I haven't shot a .45 in a few years and the last time I shot a 9mm was back in the early 1980s, but since you pointed out that the energy is the same, I would have expected the 9mm to recoil faster and be back on target quicker than the .45, but for the .45 to feel softer. Obviously that's not the way it is though. I appreciate the churching up guys, I learn a lot here.
  19. Did the 1911s in .45 ACP dominate action pistol competitions when some guys started using high capacity 9mms? And is it simpler to calculate a power factor by multiplying velocity times bullet weight or velocity times velocity times bullet weight (especially without a calculator)? We used slide rules back in the day- talk about primitive. Anyway, do heavier bullets at lower velocity tend to feel like less recoil to most of us than lighter bullets at higher velocity at the same energy level? As for rule changes to level the playing field, that's a pet peeve of mine. It makes sense to separate the $600 pistols from the $2,000 pistols, but limiting my Tanfoglio to ten rounds in the magazine when I can fit 14 or 19 (aftermarket parts added) like IDPA does to level the playing field, stifles progress. A few years ago Formula One (car racing) limited the number of tires each team could use in practice, qualifying and the race, ostensibly to level the playing field between the well financed teams and the poorer ones. At the time, Toyota's race team had 1,000 employees and the top team- Ferrari had 600. How many employees did the poor teams have? Just guessing maybe 100? Sorry for the rant. I know you're more knowledgeable than I am about pistols and competition with them, but some of these bogus rules chap my .... As for caliber, I like the 9, .40 and .45 all really well, but have more experience with the .40 because I picked up truly once-fired brass every quarter for twelve years or so when 250 guys would qualify. Finally, I love the 1911 design as you can probably tell from my user name and am really intrigued by the 2011 versions, but I've got two kids in college for the rest of this semester (one's working on her master's degree which will be in a different field than her undergraduate degree and the only local school that would work with her on that is quite expensive), so no 2011s for a while. But I'm loving the Tanfoglio Match at $600.
  20. I was going to get the Bladetech holster but then I remembered the horrible experience I had with my Bladetech holster for my 1911. It scratched the bejesus out of my slide and the trigger gaurd after 3 matches worth of draws. I had someone local to me show me the one he had for his Elite Match and it was starting to wear away the finish on the trigger guard from simply playing around with it at home. I would prefer to go with another option or else I will have to figure out how to make a mold for this gun so I can send it to Garret Industries to get a custom Silent Thunder Holster made. That's strange, mine shows no wear (that I can see) on the hard-chrome frame and only a little on the slide. What brand of 1911 did you have? I'm also surprised that the other guy's triggerguard finish was wearing that fast. Maybe some of the more experienced guys here can help us understand or maybe your eyes are just better than mine.
  21. I'd like to think so, but am afraid I would have had to start that program about 40 years ago to have a chance to be a Master let alone a GM.
  22. Maybe the old firing pin can be installed upside down, which might render the firing pin block inoperable. Don't know why EAA wants us to send in the slides.
