  1. Thanks guys, that cleared it up for me. I appreciate that you took the time to help.
  2. Some of the threads mention that the safety lever moves from the safe position to the firing position too easily. Can a good smith correct this or is it inherent in the design?
  3. The Hennings website lists three different Blade-Tech Sting Ray Belt Holsters without the drop & offset: 1) For Tanfoglio "Custom" Frame Models: Tanfoglio Elite "Limited" and "Stock II" 2) For Tanfoglio "Standard" Frame Models: Tanfoglio Elite "Stock" and "Match" 3) For Tanfoglio "Match" with accessory Rail and there are right and left handed versions of each
  4. I've noticed that holsters with thumbsnaps (or thumbbreaks as we used to call them) have kind of gone out of style, but I liked it when I carried a 1911 cocked and locked. The thumbsnap went between the hammer & firing pin.
  5. Thanks, Hennings sells a Blade Tech without the drop/offset and I ordered it. Thanks again!
  6. I was told they feed very well in semi-autos, but my understanding is that they are a softer alloy intended for lower chamber pressures. The one I was looking at was Brinell 12 hardness not the more common Brinell 18 which is usually used in .40 S&W cast bullets. I would use the softer alloy bullets for minor power factor loads and the harder alloy bullets for major pf loads.
  7. When you put a much stronger recoil spring in there, did you guys have to replace the magazine springs with stronger springs? It seems like the much stronger recoil spring would push the slide forward too fast to feed the next round, unless the mag springs were replaced with stronger ones. I hope that's understandable. But the Wolff gunsprings website has the following: "Magazine Springs Magazine springs are available in +5% and +10% extra power. Extra power magazine springs help improve feeding with extra power recoil springs and when factory springs have weakened. For use in: AT-84, CZ-75*, TZ-75, P-9, EAA Witness - Standard & Longslides - ALL CALIBERS EXCEPT 10MM Including Full Size Baby Eagle with 4.4" barrel" I emailed Wolff this morning, so it's too soon to get an answer back yet.
  8. Anyone have a holster suggestion for an EAA/Tanfoglio Witness Elite Match?
  9. Old post or late reply. Check with ATF, it's not a good idea to send gun parts outside US without making certain you're okay to do so. Sorry to be a kill joy, but sometimes it's best to ask ahead of time rather than beg forgiveness later...
  10. Thanks, I'm leaning now towards just buying a Witness Match and living with the extra weight over the polymer. I appreciate the help.
  11. If I just remove the interruptor, would I still have all the trigger pre-travel of the double action? If so, would installing the SA trigger solve that or would I need to change the hammer too? The purpose of all this would be to have a light (for carry) full size single action (that's what I prefer).
  12. I apologize in advance for my ignorance, I know almost nothing about the Tanfoglio/CZ designs, but their reputation is great and I am impressed by the features. My questions are, did they ever make a Witness Match with a polymer frame? If not, can a gunsmith convert the full size Witness polymer pistol to SA only configuration? If so, at what cost? And lastly, does anyone make tritium night sights as a replacement?
  13. Thanks guys, it is solved. I filed some more on the magazine catch slot area and it cleared the problem up. Don't know why the problem was with only one mag, but at least now I know what to look for and how to solve it. Maybe I got too rough one particular magazine changing session, I don't know.
  14. Thanks for the reply and ideas, NuJudge. The finish has held up really well, but there is some finish wear on the opposite side of the mag from the mag catch slot. This wear runs vertically from top to bottom of the mag. I used a safety razor (I wonder if the young guys know what that is?) blade and it revealed that the upper and lower edges of the mag catch slot are still sticking out past the rest of the mag by a little. I have five other mags for this pistol, but I'll check the AIM website, thanks. I doubt this makes a difference, but the mag is one of the "Restricted Law Enforcement/Government Use Only" mags from the assault weapon ban era. They were evil because they held 11 instead of 10 rounds. The ban expired before I retired, so they allowed me to keep my own property.
  15. I have a factory magazine made in 1997 for a Beretta 96D that doesn't drop free when the slide is locked back. It will drop free with the slide forward. The top & bottom edges (especially the bottom edge) of the mag catch slot was damaged enough to form a burr. I filed off the burr but it didn't solve the issue. My finger slides over the slot on the other side of the magazine but drags on the side that was burred (especially the bottom edge). Maybe the mag is actually bent at the slot? I don't have a really good straight end to check to see if it's bent, just a carpenter's square. The carpenter's square doesn't show any bend. Any ideas and how common is this?
  16. I'm shooting 155 grain hard alloy lead bullets with 5.0 grains of WST in the .40 S&W at an OAL of 1.135" and get mild leading with a Beretta 96D (that seems to have a pretty smooth barrel) after shooting a hundred rounds or so. I don't know how hard the bullets are, but they're much harder than any cast .45 ACP bullets I've ever seen. The leading cleans out with 50 strokes of a bronze brush w/o needing a lewis lead remover, but I would prefer less leading. I also started at 4.6 grains and have worked up, getting less leading after each powder amount increase. I am planning to bump up the powder amount again to 5.2 grains and see what happens. Can't increase OAL further because of magazine length limitations. Also plan to shoot say 200 rounds and see if the leading doesn't get any worse as one of you suggested. I had a squib once also, which pushed the bullet out of the case and into the barrel rifling/lands. I tapped to seat the magazine, racked the slide and tried to shoot again (as I had been trained), but luckily the new round wouldn't chamber because the primer alone (w/o powder) didn't have the power to drive the bullet from the squib far enough into the barrel to allow the next round to chamber.
  17. Hogdon lists 200 GR. HDY XTP with Winchester WST at OAL of 1.125" starting load of 3.0 grains at 654fps @ 25,300 PSI with a maximum of 3.4 grains at 733fps @ 31,100 PSI
  18. +1 for mids131s Years ago I was working law enforcement and could carry anything, so carried a 1911. Practiced regularly and was getting pretty good (although not compared to the guys who are seriously into competition). The bosses then ruled no 1911s, so I went to the issue wheelgun and started carrying and shooting left-handed and left-eyed (I'm right & right). I know now it was immature, but I was p*ssed at the time. I cut my practice sessions back to about once every 3 or 4 weeks and little or no dryfiring. I started by closing my right eye during the draw & while shooting, but after I got used to it (2-3 months) I started trying to open my right eye a little at a time but use the left. And eventually could keep both eyes open but use the left eye. My qualification scores dropped a bunch at first (from 298 out of 300, down to about 260). The scores crept back up over time and after about six months were back close to possible on that course. I'm certain that you could do the switch faster than that by practicing the draw & dryfiring and shooting more often. The wierd thing is that when the training was finished, I could feel my brain switch over to left eye dominant during a left handed draw.
  19. Thanks guys, I appreciate that you took the time to help me out. Guys like you make this forum the best.
  20. I have found a good price on a used STI Ranger in .40S&W. What are the differences between the old Ranger and the newer Ranger II? Are there any problems to look out for? I assume they updated something for a reason.
