  1. Thanks to the organizers and match staff. Fun match, most stages had multiple solutions. A big shout out to squad 15, it fun shooting with you.
  2. Does anyone know when registration will open. The website says registration will be linked there mid-september but there is still nothing. cheers. Cliff
  3. My first Desert Classic and I had a great time. Squad 21 was a good group to shoot with, I'm definitely gonna try and make it back next year. and hopefully shoot a little better.
  4. does anybody have address I can put in my GPS to find the range or directions? thanks
  5. yes, got my confirmation last nite. My first time, and looking forward to it, November in Arizona will be a nice change from what we will have in Nova Scotia. LOL
  6. hmm, my buddy bailed on me, anyone interested in splitting a room Friday and Saturday night? I haven't booked one yet, checking my options before making the call. thanks, cliff, FL719
  7. Finally know what weekends in June I can shoot. I was wondering how full the match is. I am sending the registration form tomorrow, but need to book flights this week to get a good price. Which day would be best at this time to plan on shooting, Friday, Sat or Sun. Thanks, Cliff
  8. I was trying to plan my big matches this summer and was thinking about the AWARE. But I can't find any info, not even a date. Anybody got some news? thanks, cliff
  9. Is there any word on a start time for Friday, or just "first Light"
  10. My app has been in since July, any word if there will be changes in the prize table format, like maybe you get your bag of goodies at registration, like the AWARE? production division here
  11. tanked only one stage, thats good. I tanked two and bobbled a third.
  12. One of the stages was called revenge of the chickens. The prop was a "chicken cannon". which was a compressed air potato cannon run by compressor. The stage briefing included the history of the chicken cannon which was/is? used to check airplane windsheild safety and the story of the brits who used it to check the windows of high speed trains but forgot to thaw the chicken first. The stage required you to fire the cannon before drawing and engaging the targets. I expect that pictures of the stages will be up on their website pretty soon. The cannon had a fair range too, I think the potatos were landing in the woods someplace.
  13. alright, been there, done that and am back home in Nova Scotia. This was my first trip to the Aware but probably not the last. Yes the chrono is chilly. My pulled bullet was a little light and when the first chrono shot was just on the line for the correct weight I started to sweat. Made it by one PF but the velocities were about 25 fps slower than I normally get. One other guy in my squad did go minor, the rest made it but several, not by much. Stages were fun, lots of imagination and sweat in their setup. Pretty smooth day despite a few rain showers and haveing to stop and chase foxes off the range so they wouldn't accidentally get shot. Only one vendor on friday tho, yaa Caspian, but not of much use to a production guy. A delay in tent delivery and the moisture meant no computer station to check scores, so hopefully there are no mistakes with my scores. The chicken (potato) cannon was cool. It was getting a bit of attention after the shooting was over, looks like a great toy. kudos to the Area 7. Aware gang, a great match.
  14. perhaps one of teh mods would edit the sticky to reflect a new BATF fax number for form 6's. the old number 12029271679 does not seem to work and their FAQ lists the foloowing number - 1-304-616-4551 cliff
  15. yes, all my 19 rounders are pinned to 10. The factory 10 rounders worked perfectly tho, while I was waiting for my normal caps to come in. Take a peice of flat steel narrow enough to fit flat against back wall of mag. Cut to approx 1.85 inches. slip in, reassemble and check that 10.5 rounds will fit in mag. Adjust as necessary. clamp to mag, drill a hole in the part of mag that extends below grip through mag and block. next, you may need to remove some metal from the bottom of the block to allow the little peice of metal that locks the basepad on to sit in the right place. pop rivit and voila, a blocked 19 rounder. follower will not come out, but you can clean from top and bottom, use aluminum rivits, so it is easier to remove occassionally for a proper cleaning.
  16. Rain-X works great. helps water to bead and it always seemed to me to make it easier to clean the smoke and comp debris off the scope.
  17. well I'm thinking of trying to get a slot this year while I can still own guns (canada), I was wondering if the June 9 slot deadline means that if I don't have a slot by then , they are all gone? or is that just the last day to request one? I'll have my request in May 1 but obviously don't want to book flights till I have a slot. and if is open too long then all the cheap seats will be gone.
  18. Physically, the mags are interchangeable and both types of mags will work in both types of guns. In Canada the SP01 is supplied only with CZ75/85 10 round mags. However in ipsc Production Division competition they are not interchangeable. I asked as i have a few standard capacity 75/85 mags and when it seemed that I might not be able to get SP01 mags I asked if I could unblock my mags in ecuador and use the 15 round mags in my SP01 and was told NO.
  19. so are they saying more than 2 guns is suspect, or is it just a size/concealability issue? I listed 4 guns, partially cause at that time I was not sure if I would be able to source legal standard mags for my SP01 (canadian) and partially cause my luck flying with guns sucks. My last 3 trips have resulted in me being separated from my luggage containing the guns, so I plan to travel with more than I need spread through the luggage, in the hopes that one gun and maybe a backup arrive with me. Howeever the backup for my G17 is a G19.
  20. The Ontario , Canada provincial championship last weekend had two self start stages. They used pressure switches which plugged into those little yellow speed timers. As the competitor took off, the RO unplugged and followed as normal.
  21. what type of powder throw are you using? I've found that the velocity spread of my clays loads has been quite small, and assumed from that , that I was getting a consistent throw. cliff
  22. good guess on the caliber, although Canada being IPSC has little to do with it. Our laws restrict us to 10 rounds so the .40 is quite popular up here as well in production. but yes 9mm, 147 grain Montana Gold, winchester primers, OAL 1.14. tested in LDA and current pistol , CZ85. I've been running 3.14 grains of clays with no pressure signs(pf=126 to 129), and have tested to 3.3 grains. But I do have 8 lbs of titegroup sitting on a shelf as a backup. I did a lot of research before deciding to try clays, and then loaded up slowly because of the warnings. But I've been doing this for 15 years, and know what to look for. But Dave says that no drastic PF change, and Carlos warns against leaving out in hot sun. Is that just cautionary or has your tests revealed a certain level of heat steps over the line?
  23. Thanks, I was worried that it was one of those that go slower as it gets warmer. Those I find myself loading a little extra hot, just in case. But if my clays load makes minor here in the cold north, I now know it will only get better in the warmer times and places. I'd love to try VV310 or 320, but despite standing orders with powder suppliers for 18 months, I have yet to recieve any. It appears to be quite scarce here in Canada. Fortunately Clays has been well behaved in my 9mm, but I am aware of the pitfalls.
