  1. Hi all, I started using clays this winter for my production load. While I have a nice load that has worked all winter, I'm wondering how Clays reacts to warmer temps. Normally I'd have real world data to compare by now, but our spring has been very cold and damp, and with only 2 months to the World shoot, I'm wondering whether to switch to a powder that I'm not running at near max loads. thanks cliff
  2. Trading prizes would be a good idea, if it wasn't so late by the time you get to that part. As someone who flew in, getting powder or primers is a bad thing. and then you have to find someone who didn't fly to even give the stuff away to. But the match was great.
  3. FWIW, I took the rear sight off my para, which if not a bomar is a pretty close copy, and put it on my CZ85. I had to shim the dovetail and build a higher front sight but it works pretty good.
  4. check out the list, with the proviso, "approved pending a vote at the 2005 General Assembly" excellent.
  5. What a great match, and if it had not been for Chris Patty I would not have been able to shoot it. The airlines ensured that my pistol did not make it, but when I showed up Sat am looking for options, he did not hesitate to offer me a pistol and the necessary gear off of his table. I would have bought it if possible by the end of teh match, but foriegn shooter so that was out. I was not able to shoot as well as I hoped but that pistol never caused a single problem, it was just my lack of experience with a glock. I hope he sold it to someone, if not, he has a sweet G34 , mags and gear for sale. All in all, Im happy with 15 in production and I'm looking forward to next year. Again, thanks Chris, , I can never repay you for you help. Cliff Meek
  6. The official website lists a bunch of hotels ranging from $35 to $90. There are blocks of rooms set aside, but in the FAQ, it says that until you get a confirmation number from your RD, you can not access one of those room. That way they don't get booked by someone "hoping" for a slot. the WS rate seems to be about 20% better than I was finding on the various travel sites. ipsc1
  7. Vendors, who will be there? This is my first trip and there is some stuff I need, and for various reasons can not mail order. I need some CZ stuff, mags and springs, who might stock that stuff?

  9. Yes, plan A. The first sentence indicates a specific engagement order and reload point. The second sentence negates that by referring to arrays, not targets, providing a choice in engagement order and requiring only that a reload be performed between the point of engaging the first array and engaging the second array.
  10. Hmm, am I too literal, but the only restriction I see is a reload must be completed before engaging a target in the second array. So If I engage T1-T3, reload engage T4 and continue into the second array without a reload at that point, have I not complied with that one restriction? It does not say a relodd must be performed after engaging the last target of the first array and before engaging the first target of the second array. While the first sentence refers to engaging of individual targets, the second only requires a reload between engagement of the arrays. I'm doing the revolver thing now and that would have been my first choice. ipsc1
  11. Why not not a choice for both targets? That would get my vote. ipsc1 canadian hey, I guess great minds think alike, and at the same time too.
  12. Well my Hogden manual lists 4.4 grains at a velocity of 976 and a max OAL of 1.135. I had less powder and slightly longer bullets. Anyway I tried some of my ammo through another new Edge and it looks fine afterwards, tried some of his ammo that hes been using this season, a titegroup load, and it shows signs of flattening in my pistol. Showed the ledge on the breechface to my dealer and the gun is on its way back to STI to be examined. With less than 300 rounds through it I wasn't going to try and have it fixed locally. I think that the problem may have been that that case head had a gap between it and the breech face because of the ledge, which was allowing the primer room to move backwards and slam against the breechface. ipsc1
  13. I bought one of these backpacks last month, so here is a users report. I can fit 600 rounds of 9mm, in standard ammo boxes, in the bottom compartment. Perfect for the world shoot Shooting production, I found that teh bag can either rest on the mag pouches/ mags on my backside, or just give it a little shift to slide past them and down lower. I did not find this to be uncomfortable, but then this was only for hikes from range to range. very sturdy construction, this bag looks like it will take lots of abuse. There is a sort of handle at the top of the back straps, which I can use for carrying the bag if necessary, but at that point the bag is just barely clearing ground level for me, but even slinging it over one shoulder is comfortable. I'm still playing with the load out and what goes where, but am very happy so far. The little seat is great for keeping the bag off the ground and dry. ipsc1
  14. Thanks for the replys. OAL ranged from 1.250 to 1.150, slightly less flattening on the longer OAL, but also slightly lower velocities and I assume pressures. Note: the OAL varied cause I loaded up different OAL's to test that variable, not because my reloading skills are that bad. Press was a 1050. Winchester small pistol primers. I've got some Titegroup coming to play with, been trying to get Vit powders since last winter but no one seems to be carrying any in Canada. At least not 310 or 320 or 330. Post test inspection of the pistol revealed sort of a ledge on the breechface, I'm going to look at another edge this weekend and test fire some of my loads through it to see if it acts the same. If so I'll have to drop Clays as a major load for my 40 . If it is a pressure problem at 170 PF then I dare not load it up to something with a cushion between me and minor. I had thought I'd be OK because I was under the max load and velocity listed in my Hogden manual, and the initial chrono test , as well as the second set, showed nice consistent velocities. Is clays inverse temp sensitive? Cause I was indoors in a cool basement range when I experienced the flowback. ipsc1
  15. This past weekend I experienced severe primer flattening and some flowback. The load was 4.3 grains of Clays pushing a 180 gr MG at 945 fps, winchester primers. The gun was a new Edge. My first thought was that it was the clays load, I had read all the warnings about pressure problems, perhaps the press had adjusted as I was reloading and my load became unsafe, so I switched to an old box of loads with 231 and finished the match. Back home I went to the range with the chrony, and a para. The clays loads were still as tested (945 fps) and showed pressure signs in the STI but not in the para. Velocities in the para were about 10 fps slower. But then I found that the loads with 231 ( velocity 960) were also showing signs of flattening in the STI but not the para. Are there other causes for primer flattening besides load pressures? ipsc1
  16. No, anything closer than 50 yards is still a gimme. put mini poppers out to 80 yards, now thats fun.
  17. and if I release the mag, and then , realizing that I have a miss, re-engage before inserting another mag, you would DQ me under 10.5.9. ? ipsc1
  18. Some of the points in various threads have got me curious. Some OFMs have custom shops, the bottom line in production has been if the factory offers it for that model, you are good to go, ... but is there some point at which a factory custom shop can pass that makes the pistol illegal for production, ignoring the obvious, comps, ports, optics and trigger weights. I'm looking at 3 points: 1. the interpretation of 19.1 flatly prohibits certain cosmetic modifications, but what if it is the factory custom shop making those modifications. I see the Tanfoglio shop offers engraving services, perhaps they could engrave go faster stripes. Would the answer change if they engraved "Glocks Rule" on the slide 2. at some point Glock did not offer Heinie sights on their pistols, then someone ordered some in that configuration and they became legal in production division. So would that first pistol in that configuration have been legal? If I or any other person with enough money can convince the OFM to do something special with a pistol at the factory and/or OFM custom shop, does that create the precedent for a factory offered option? 3. If an OFM offers a blued and a chromed version of the same pistol, does chroming a blued slide violate 19.1, and if not would the chroming have to take place at an OFM custom shop. ipsc1
  19. Ok, now I'm confused. I thought that for a gun on the list, any option available from the factory for that gun was legal, even if the option was not available at the time of purchase. ie. if CZ was to start offering a fibre optic front sight on their CZ85, I could replace the original sight on my 85 with a new factory fiber optic. I don't think I'm talking about options that are not available for the "Stock" model, I'm talking about ordering a specific firearm from the manufacturer, with set of options from a list of options available for the 'Stock" model , assembled at the factory, or their custom shop. I have an email off to their North American importers asking about availability of the "Stock" model and which options are offered for that model, but have not heard back from them yet. So , other than asking here or privately via email to the powers that be, how do I know which options/configurations, offered by the factory are legal in Production division. The list only lists models of firearms, not specific configurations. ipsc1
  20. Well the new CZ pistol doesn't do it for me. On the IPSC production list there is an entry " Stock Custom" under the Tangfolio pistols. Is this the "Stock" pistol shown on the Tangfolio website, or does that mean a "Stock" pistol plus whatever custom work I ask the factory to do. I'm looking at the accessories and one is a custom frame, if I get a custom frame for a "Stock" pistol, is it still a Production legal pistol? Christmas is coming and I'm think of a Tangfolio Stock pistol, with custom frame (long dust cover and magwell), big ambi safties like those shown on the gold custom, chrome mags with aluminum basepads. Would that combination be considered production legal? I'd hate to end up in Ecuador and be told, oops you're in standard division with that pistol. ipsc1
  21. Thanks all, I thought that was the answer but better to be sure first. ipsc1
  22. I'm looking at revolver division for the next season and have a question. Under IPSC rules may I use 40 sw cartridges in my Smith and Wesson model 610, which is chambered for 10mm. I don't see anything prohibiting it, and I'm not altering the revolver but better to check before I stock up on .40 instead of 10 mm cases. ipsc1
  23. heres a question. As a RO you have a competitor come to the line. The start position is leaning over a bench and the holster is a minimalist design with locking abilities. The shooter assumes the position and unlocks the holster and attempts to adjust their position so the gun doesn't fall out. At some point they are satisfied and gives you the nod. They then make some movement that destabilizes the gun. As the RO you are 90% sure that the gun is going to fall. Do you proceed with "Are you ready?" or do you advise the shooter that they are in danger of DQ'ing. and what about the next poor schmuck that you don't percieve the potential and you end up DQ'ing. Part of me says a falling gun is unsafe and I should prevent it. The other part says if you play that game you take your chances and preventing the DQ becomes assistance. ipsc1
  24. I shot IPSC last year with an LDA, this year I switched to a CZ85. Two reasons for that, I'm in Canada and have to deal with 10 round mags and under IPSC rules that was always a hassle, secondly the long trigger pull. Its a sweet trigger but long, at least the CZ gives a short SA trigger after the first shot. Someday I'd love to try an USPSA LDA production gun just to see and feel the difference. ipsc1
  25. Good luck to everyone who shoots this year. My flight has been cancelled and the earliest my airline can rebook me is Monday. We are in the midst of the worst winter storm in probably 20 years. Hopefully I'l get there next year. ipsc1
