I've got the XDM 4.5 40cal for Lim. It has run great from the start the only issues I have ever had were self induced. Dirty mag FTF.Too much slide glide light strikes. Keep that striker channel clean and dry.
Canyon Creek base pads will give you 21rds +1. Tungsten guide rod from CC will help tame major loads.
Dawson soon to release ice magwell.
Here's my guess the mags tubes are dirty. The new mags might have some anti corresion grease(which attracts grit). If that were the case the follower would bind and feed at a bad angle. I would clean them with some Hornady one shot it's a dry lube that doesn't attract dust when it is dry. The only time I had a similar feed problem dirty mag. Hope it's a simple fix for you.
I had the same problem. shooting 1911 before the XDM I was use to riding the saftey. with that grip I was bumping the slide release on the XDM. Try shooting weak handed to see if it locks back then. If that's not the fix look at the mag springs.

I've got no experience with multi gun. 3 guys in our club run the DAA(2/1 open/lim) all have great experiences with the holster. If I were doing a stage with a sitting start/spin run I would just leave it locked then disengage the saftey as I draw(draw splits similar to unlocked). Yeah you know Murphy is always out there......

It's my understanding you can not load the 200's long enough for glocks without the risk of a kaboom. I use Bayou 180- 1.125 OAL 4.4 TG 169PF in my XDM.
You might want to consider a DAA race master. I have one for my XDM limited rig and it works great. Retains the gun completely secure and draws smooth.
I shoot the XDM 40 in limited. It's run great from day one. Springfield has another mag deal going on so that will help defer some costs.
Had Springer precision do my trigger (2.5lb) and sights. I have a canyon creek tungsten guide rod and base pads( they hold the most 21).
hope this helps. good luck with your choice
