  1. What would be the advantage of using one of these aluminum grip's. I don't see it.
  2. Thanks for the quick replies. Seems like the no's have it. I'll leave well enough alone.
  3. Thought about installing a some shock buffs on my 1911's. Are they really needed or are they more trouble then they are worth. Right now the guns are running pretty well at 100% with out any installed. Just wondering. Gabe
  4. A new ambi safety needs to be fitted after any trigger job you would have done. In general they usually always need to be fitted by someone familiar with the process. You wouldn't want an accidental discharge. Gabe
  5. I've found Frog Togs work well for me. I figure if they can keep you fairly dry on a motocycle a match shouldn't be a problem, and it's not.
  6. Don't want to change the thread, but I've never tried N320 or Solo 1000. Is it a fairly clean burning powder in the charge weights your using?
  7. The only barrels I use a breakin on are rifles. Just ran a bunch of rounds through an Edge and after cleaning, the barrel looks good and has no fowling. To me that's the biggest issue. No lead or copper fowling in the barrel. Gabe
  8. Just got in the parts to upgrade my 550. It was an older press and I wanted to upgrade the powder drop setup to the one they are now using. Talked to Mike(very knowledgable)who also straightened me out on some press operating isues I was having and also included the alighnment tool. He sent me the tool and powder drop setup free of charge and I had it in 3 days. Cured my press problems and loads better then it has for a long time. It's a great product along with the customer service regardless of how old the product is that will keep me coming back to them every time. Just my experiance and I thought I'd pass it on. Gabe
  9. This is pretty slick. Going to rob the lee primer assemblies I've already got and order the replacement parts. Great idea. Thanks. Gabe
  10. Well just came back in from the back yard. I'll do some more practicing the next couple of days before my first match on Saturday though. I've run a couple hundred rounds through the gun with 4 different magazines and it hasn't missed a beat yet. Shot paper plates at 15 yards freehand and was able to put all 75 rounds on them so I guess that isn't too bad for not having shot a pistol for the last 10 years or so. I'm hoping with some practice practice and more practice I can become a little better at drawing the gun and mag changes. Thanks to all of you that responded. I think the gun is capable of tighter groups and one day I might be able to prove it if I shoot the open class with dot sights.Gabe
  11. Was wondering how tight does your groups have to be when working up a new load before you will use it in competition. Right now I'm shooting right at 3 inch 10 shot groups at 25 yards off the bench. The open sights are rough on these old eyes though. I might do better if I had a dot sight on it, but I was wanting to shoot limited. Do you think I ought to move up to see if I could get some tighter groups? If this has been asked before(and it probably has I apologize). Gabe
  12. Hey Guys, looking for some place to pick up a left hand Bladetech DOH holster that will fit my Edge for a match coming up in a couple of weeks. Seems like the left handed ones are hard to find and there is a 3 week wait for the factory to make one. Not being that familiar with the holster I am open to other left hand suggestions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Gabe
  13. I'm going to have to go with the roller too. Been useing it for years, but hey what ever works I always say. Gabe
  14. I've stored mine for 6 or 7 years without any problems. As long as you keep it dry and at a fairly constant temp l think it will last a very long time. Gabe
  15. I've just gotten back into pistol shooting after a pretty good layoff. Had a pot load off crushed walnut shells stored up. Just needed to find a good polish to add with it to get the brass clean and shine up. Found some Flitz Tumbler and Media additive on Midways websight. Went ahead and ordered a bottle and added some to some crushed walnut shells. I've got to tell ya it does a fine job. Brass cleaned up pretty quick and came out looking shiney new. I know benchrest shooters clean their primer pockets but I don't think it's neccesary for pistol brass. Decapping after tumbling ensures that the primer pocket is open. I think that's really all that's needed.
  16. Thanks Guy, appreciate the quick comeback. Just happen to have them from a 9mm I used to load.
  17. Was wondering if I could get a little help. I'm wanting to know what number shell plate and locator buttons are used on a 550 for the 40 S&W. Thanks
  18. I would think the slide stop would work. You could always call Wilson and ask. One of their gunsmiths would know.
  19. Just bought a bunch of 10mm. Mixed lot once fired, but the price was good along with the shipping. Fairly clean, but I'll still run it through the tumbler. Gabe
  20. Solo is a shotgun powder. I'd do a little reserch and see if something better is out there. I would not substite a shotgun powder for a pistol powder. Burning rates are different. This is what their websight has to say on Solo 1000. "A fast burning, single-base, flake shotgun powder. SOLO 1000 was the pioneer in the clean burning revolution and is an excellent choice for trap, sporting clays and skeet shooting. It is an ultra clean burning powder that is well suited for target handgun loads in 45 ACP and Cowboy Action cartridges."
  21. Thanks for the replies. Was wondering if spending the extra money to convert over would be worth it. I think I'll give it a try stock before switching it out.
  22. Does anyone use or have experience with a left handed mag release? Does it help that much or is it no big deal in a match. Thanks. Gabe
  23. Hi Guys, new to the forum and just getting into IPSC. Was wondering what you all thought was the most popular caliber or the one used most often. I have plenty of 45 stuff but I see allot of 40 too. I'm sure this has been covered before but trends change and what was popular a year or two ago might have changed. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Gabe
