  1. So how is the Bar Sto working out? What kind of accuracy are you getting out of it?
  2. As PatJones stated above both the Springfield XD and the S&W M&P are single action guns in that the pulling the trigger doesn't continue to preload the striker. There are a couple of more that the same thing could be argued about but those 2 are the most common. Any movement of the striker caused by pulling the trigger is incidental and not necessary for the gun to function. If you square up the striker lug and sear face eliminating or reducing any over cocking the pistol still functions as designed. The movement is the result of the sear design ala a low sear pivot point and not for the need for additional energy driving the striker.. The Glock uses a partially preloaded striker with the final preload delivered by actually pulling the trigger. If the additional preloading of the striker is not completed prior to the striker being released there is not enough energy to consistently pop the primer. This difference in design is why XD and M&P trigger can be made shorter/lighter/cleaner then a Glock trigger.
  3. Anyone heard when the Spring Steel match at Rio Salado is going to be in 2015?
  4. Between the two I would go with the M&P. But would go with an STI Eagle before either one of those.
  5. Anyone tried milling a Bomar style rear sight into a 5" M&P yet?
  6. Used to allow 10mm as long as it made power factor, so why not 40?
  7. Chirpy, just to be sure ... if I start using my STI in 40 in ESP I can load it to 15 rounds as long as I use the 126mm magazines so it will fit in the box?
  8. IDPA limits everyone competing in CDP to 8+1 now, the addition of another caliber wouldn't change anything.
  9. Why couldn't they limit the 40 to 8+1 just like the 45?
  10. If you are focusing on finding a gun/load with the absolute softest recoil you are searching for the wrong thing. What you should be looking for is a combination that gives you are reasonable amount of felt recoil/muzzle flipping but cycles very fast. It doesn't matter if you are waiting for the muzzle to come back down or for the slide to close, you are still waiting for the gun to settle. Try thinking in terms of the shortest recoil event in terms of time. The faster your gun settles after firing a shot the sooner you can see what you need to see to fire the next shot. Time is important is a sport where success is measured by time.
  11. Ya, after working local, sanctioned, and Area level matches in both IDPA and USPSA for 20 years, I am not looking forward to working another one. Norco tomorrow, probably.
  12. I only compete in SSR when I am on the street, I would never show up for a match that under gunned.
  13. I saw that coming but hopefully everyone got it out of their system now... :-)
  14. Each AC will have to decide for themselves if the amount of money they get is enough to cover their expenses. Large states like Texas and California would have much higher expenses then say Rhode Island or Maine. But each AC made a commitment to IDPA to both assist the clubs and members in their area's and to ensure compliance with the rules regardless of cost reimbursement.
  15. Why cant the AC's show up the day before the match, and staying one stage ahead of the SO shooting, look over the stage and enforce compliance by requiring the necessary changes be made before anyone shoots them. Again, HQ is paying them to do just that. Why is that such a horrible thing?
  16. If the MD's aren't going to follow the rules restricting stage design, AC's/HQ isn't going to enforce them, and a major portion of the membership is ok with that, why doesn't IDPA just eliminate the rules in question? Then the MD's won't have a compliance issue. And again, we are only discussing sanctioned matches.
  17. Red dot sighting systems are not new, I can remember people trying the early Aimpoints in the late 1980's and the 1st micro red dot, the Tasco Firepoint, was available in the early 90's. While S&W is the 1st major factory to offer the mounting cut people have been using the them for close to 20 years on pistols. It is my personal opinion that mounting them on carry/duty type pistols is a fad and one that will die off soon enough. Will there be people who continue to use them, sure. There are people who still shoot the 10mm and 9x23 but not enough to create a new division. The only thing I can see is IDPA is trying to replace all of the competitors who are moving away and S&W being a major supporter maybe help them move a line which isn't selling that well.
  18. I think we are starting to miss the point ... the people who are in charge of making sure the competitors follow the rules to a "T", should start by doing the same thing. And again we are discussing sanctioned matches not local club matches. If HQ enforces a penalty for illegal stages and the AC's actually attend the sanctioned matches in their areas and make sure the stages are legal 'after' set up (After all, IDPA does pay them to attend the matches) then there won't be any problems staying within the rules. Pull the sanctioning a couple of times and MD's would start caring and paying attention to those kinds of details.
  19. << Brought up some discussion >> Is that a bad thing?
  20. << A troll >> Actually I do think this issue is a problem and I am interested in what other people think the solution should be. I was taken a bit back by some of the answers that have been given which range from, "as long as they are only cheating a little bit" to " as long as you do it for free it's ok to be a sloppy" to "grow a pair and start acting like a Big Boy" that I have had a little fun but really ... a troll. You obviously don't know me.
  21. So .... , GOF tells us that 1st of all if little rules violations bother us we will forever be known as 'Little boys" implying that over time, if we are lucky we may have the chance to develop into 'Big Boys". Since I have been told many times that its the "Big Boys" that always win the matches and get the pretty girls I want to be a big boy too. Maybe I should delete this thread, it might make me a bigger boy and make my girlfriend prettier. He also tells us that as long as its only a "Little" illegal, its ok. I am ok with that as long as the MD is ok with my gun and cleats being only a "Little" illegal. I mean, I will keep it reasonable. Besides there have been illegal stages before that were allowed to stand and I am sure there have been illegal guns used before, so ...? Afoulk tells us that we should only expect rules compliance from the hosting clubs if we have an extra $100 hanging out in our pockets. So people shooting on a really tight budget should just get used to being happy with whatever the MD wants to throw at them because if you cant afford to step up you need to shut up. I just think we should have the right to expect the people who are enforcing the rules to 1st and foremost follow the rules. Maybe the original question of what the remedy should be for non-compliance by the hosting club should be changed to, "It's only IDPA so why worry about following the rules at all as long as we only break them a little?"
  22. << I also said >> I didn't mean to leave that part of your statement out but it didn't responded to my original question. I completely agree that the MD should want to fix it. But what if he doesn't is what I am asking? Your response implies that only the AC has the power to direct the MD to bring a stage into compliance. But what if your AC rarely attends matches, actually competes in them even more rarely, and normally responses to telephone calls within a 'few' days, after the match would be competed? Thank you for the clarification but it would be more helpful if it addressed the question presented, "what remedy if the stage is out of compliance and after notification remains out of compliance and included in the match?"
  23. So as competitors we have to pay an entry fee for the right to pay an additional $100 to have the club comply with the rules they advertised they were in compliance with? Plus I have seen matches where the same people reviewed the protest that declined to correct the matter in the first place. SO you were just donating money to the after match staff beer fund. But again, why do we have to do any of this? Why do hosting clubs think they can ignore the rules for setting up the stages. I would think that if anyone pointed out an illegal stage in a sanctioned match the staff would be all over fixing it or removing it to ensure the quality of their match. And more to the point of my original question, if a hosting club presents an illegal stage during a sanctioned match and doesn't take the responsibility to either fix it or remove it, what should the AC/HQ do about it? If nothing is done that is passive agreement that they don't have to comply in the future. Do they decertify the match costing all the competitors their points for the Nationals? What's the answer?
