  1. Thanks for the opinion, But I'm not quite a fan of the SCAR 17, mostly for the price point. For the $2700 premium i am better off getting a JP LRP or equivalent with a proven track record. Thats the problem with the .308 Ar's they have a proven track record for not being reliable. The SCAR beat all the others in military testing. I had my issues with 2 different Armalite AR10's, heard plenty of people with issues with DPMS ARS and even Knight AR's in.308. The Ar platform in .308 has not had a great track record and hence I went with the SCAR and I am glad I did. I just went through doing the research on which .308 to get and the SCAR is what I ended up with. Another good option that has a solid fan base is the Larue OBR and Predator. The PredatOBR looks great too if you want an AR platform .308. Anyway good luck with what ever you end up doing. Pat
  2. That's sweet!! Where did you get those QD sockets. Are they joined together throught the stock?
  3. Yup 22". And changing that front sight is a must if you want to get any precision out of the rifle. My SOCOM with the standard width sight has no problem with 10" plates at 300yds and beyond if I do my part.
  4. If you decide keep and mod your SOCOM, you might consider a Smith Enterprise SOCOM-16 Threaded Gas Lock and gas plug. The gas lock will allow you to install a standard or NM sight instead of the CQB sight that is probably on your rifle now. I found the CQB sight too course for targets beyond 200 yds. The gas plug softens recoil (somewhat). I put my SOCOM in a VLTOR modstock with a CASV rail system. This set up works great with irons or optics. And above all, it looks really cool too . There are many other mods that will enhance your SOCOM for competition but with all that being said, an AR10 platform is more versatile with an almost infinite number of mods and accessories. And like DocMedic said, you probably wont see a SOCOM being used at any major match. I love my SOCOM and it's served me well when I've used it at the local club matches but if I were to get seriously in to HM, I would opt for a 18" or 20" M1A or an AR10.
  5. The Fiocchi's work great. Split the cost with a buddy.
  6. I use a VTAC buttstock adapter for the sling and a modified Nordic mag extension clamp for a forward sling / light mount. Works great.
  7. The VTAC buttstock adapter works well for me.
  8. I've been out for almost 20 years but I'll re-up if you can get me a spot on the team. But if that doesn't work out, I have a nephew that is due back from deployment this month. I know that he would definitely be interested. Semper Fi
  9. Nice stages Mark. May try a few of these at Heritage.
  10. Also address bringing the shotgun or rifle into play. Depending on how you have it slung and the method used to bring it up to your shoulder, the muzzle could definitely sweep well beyond the 180. Thanks

  12. Here ya go........ http://www.arizonagunrunners.net/Products/FNMfng/fnmfng.html Look under FN shotgun acessories.
  13. In reply to Fastarget, I recently switched to a 24" barrel on my SLP. Overall, I like the vent rib barrel over the standard SLP barrel. It is definitely lighter and seems to transition faster. I use the TriViz front sight which works well for the slugs. POI at 50yds is pretty much dead on using a LM choke. I'm going to see what it will do with slugs at 100yds this weekend in prep for the BRM3G.
  14. I used a Dremel tool to open up and reduce the length of the inside radius of the lower clamp.
  15. The Nordic clamp will not work out of the box. You'll have to mod the lower clamp to fit the mag tube sleeve.
  16. I love this forum! I'm installing a Nordic button on my SLP tomorrow. The info on this thread ( especially Firetoad's illustrations) will make the disassembly a snap. Thanks

    G35s for sale?

I have been shooting limited with a 35 for the past couple years and lately I've used a lightened 24. They've both ran great with very few problems. But recently I've had the opportunity to shoot a few different 2011's in various configurations and WOW! what a difference a couple thousand dollars makes. I'm upgrading to a 6" 2011 but I'll be keeping my Glocks. I'll need a back up for when that high dollar thoroughbred inevitably chokes.
  18. Thanks Kyle, very informative. I'll have to try the 5w Castrol .
