Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. The start position was mandatory on the right-hand side to force movement from right to left.
  2. Well, unfortunately, I received my first DQ yesterday. I have nobody to blame but myself. A friend of mine was actually RO'ing the stage and I know he felt bad for having to DQ me, but, as he put it, I did earn it. This was the first time I had shot Limited vs. Production at any USPSA match. Here is what happened... The stage was similar to my quick sketch below. While not exact, the basic premise of the stage was similar. Move forward engaging targets down one side of a "V" followed by retreating down the other side of the "V" engaging targets. So, I start the stage, move to my first stop, engage targets, move to my second stop and engage targets. While moving through the V, I reload moving from positions 2 to 3. So, I move to positions 4 and 5 and engage the appropriate targets. During my original walk through, I knew that I only needed the single reload (even with misses and makeups!). So, I didn't even put into my mind performing a reload on the retreat. However, my brain went into some odd, flashback, automatic, Production mode and decided that I needed a reload going from position 5 to 6. As I started performing the reload, I knew right away what I had done and even verbalized it loud enough for the RO and others to hear: "Why did I do that?" Needless to say, I broke the 180 while dropping my gun for the reload and got the "STOP" command. I was not mad, upset, etc. There was, as I stated earlier, nobody to blame but myself. I was just bummed that I let myself down and broke a safety rule when I try to pride myself in being as safe as possible. During the stage briefing and walk-through, it was openly discussed amongst the entire squad that this stage pushed the shooter to be very, very cognizant of their 180. I was lucky to be the first shooter on the stage from our squad. I even made the comment that, I didn't care how well I did on the stage as long as I didn't get DQ'd. Only 4 shots away from finishing the match and it happened. Hopefully, other shooters can learn from this or, at a minimum, add a little extra reinforcement in the back of someone's mind about these tight retreat stages and the ease in which the 180 can be broken.
  3. I have only used Jeff to weld lifters as I did all of my other work myself and it was done right! I know Jeff personally and have squaded with Jeff at local 3 Gun matches. Jeff is a standup guy and you shouldn't have any quality or service issues.
  4. I don't know why I didn't realize that you were assaulter, but... You had a pretty good match if I remember correctly! Nice run too! I think I have cornered the market on the worst Stage 7 run posted yet.
  5. I shot a light mod w/ no problems: Nice run! Did you run that stage early on Friday?
  6. I agree completely. My light mod choke definitely choked on a number of those targets! Here is my Stage 7 and you can see me, at 32 seconds, shoot one target a number of times, me drop my shotgun, shake my head in disbelief, reengage and fumble with reloads. BTW, good job Jesse! Also, big thanks to Ken, staff, RO's and ROTC's for all of their hard work and true professionalism. Great match guys and gals!
  7. I am with you Mike! I just heard that news about an hour ago. I know there were a number of shooters from SW MO and OK that were heading home down through that area. Hope they all made/make it safely!
  8. I can't remember her placement but she took Top Ladies'.
  9. Congratulations to all the winners!!! For my first major match, I was OK with my 71st place out of 120 TO competitors. This homey just ain't got game yet. BTW, there is a PMag with an Arredondo basepad on it somewhere in the woods just east of Stage 1. Needless to say, after a nasty double feed from this mag on the long range Stage 6 and the rifle on Stage 1 this morning, it didn't stay with me. It cost me more than 40 seconds for both of these double feeds!! Oh well, still probably wouldn't have improved my placement much!
  10. It was overcast and dry until about noon and then the clouds opened. It just quit raining for the time being about half an hour ago. Cleats and gear are drying out now. Lots of cleaning and oiling to do tonight. It has been fun shooting and am squaded with a great group! I just wish that I was shooting a little better.
  11. Barry, Well, it is more of a knock off the big chunks is all. Don't want to remove all of the carbon that is holding things together. JT, Washing your truck now is, in my humble opinion, a futile endeavor. I am about 100 miles east of the match and it has been raining here nearly all morning. Saying "It is gonna be muddy" would likely be the understatement of the year!
  12. It rained in Wentzville all night last night. Fun times to come! I will be heading out after lunch once I wake up from my all night reloading session. Still got guns to clean and packing to do! BLAHHHH!!!!!! Anybody else staying at the Hampton Inn off of 63 & 70?
  13. To those mentioning wives and kids, my wife and kiddos are coming up that Friday afternoon and making it a mini-vacation as well. My wife would love to come and see the match, but unfortunately, no babysitter. But, she will be at the match in spirit and physically at the pool withe kids.
  14. I guess this is the part that is frustrating me the most. I've heard that dumping is OK, I've heard that I don't have to go to the meeting, I've heard a bunch of stuff, but it's all second hand. I really don't want to get there an pull a Neth. (Sorry Dave). It would be nice to have the actual match rules available to out of area folks more than a week before the match. I completely understand! I do see that they cleaned off some of the items on the website! So, hopefully things will quickly come down the pipeline to us. Definitely Columbia. I have a room at the Hampton Inn off of 63 and 70 in Columbia.
  15. I know that this is not directly from the horse's mouth, but as far as dumping a "hot", safe'd firearm, I did speak to Ken Flood and several of the RO's at last month's CMMG match about this. The rules are not correct on the website regarding the abandonment of firearms. I was told by these guys that we will be able to dump a "hot", safe'd firearm just like USPSA and most other Outlaw matches. I know that this is how they were running last month's match. As far as 3 Gun Nation points, this match will NOT be part of the 3 Gun Nation Points Series. I know that all of this is not directly from the directors, but it is what several of them told me a month ago. Hope it helps a little!
