  1. That is a good thought. Where would you file? Top of the magazine catch hole or the bottom? I am a little scared to fit the mag release. I am not expert, but it seems like if you remove face hardened material from the mag catch, you may have a mag catch that wears out quickly (the metal underneath might be softer). I could very well be wrong on that.
  2. To be fair, SVI did remove some material from one of the ejectors (remember, there are two guns). However, rounds are still touching both ejectors. Since the gun feeds, they think they are done. They sent me an email saying that rounds touching the ejector are fine (!). But I think (quite reasonably) that rounds hitting the ejector and getting pushed forward so far that mags won't drop free is a very bad thing. I would NEVER run these guns in a match. I sent them a video of the issue and am still waiting for a reply. Another issue that I did not mention is that the magazines are already so high in the gun that, at slide lock and with an empty magazine.......it is impossible to release the slide (not that you would ever release the slide on an empty chamber, but it gives you a sense for how high the magazines are in the gun). That is another reason (sorry I didn't mention it) that I don't think filing on the ejector is the key to this. The mags are just too high in the gun.
  3. I have an SVI 1911 in .40 caliber. With the SVI (standard shelf height) mag catch, the top round in the magazine touches the ejector. It touches it so hard, that it dimples the case rim / flakes brass. In touching the extractor, the top bullet is also pushed forward by the extractor so far that when you drop a magazine, the top round will hang over the front of the magazine and the mag often won't drop free when you hit the magazine release button. Frustratingly, SVI thinks this is fine and, after much back and forth, has not offered to take the pistol back. A potential solution is to get a SLIGHTLY lower magazine catch than the SVI Standard height. I could also change magazines, but that is a more expensive proposition and I like my Wilson ETMs. I installed a Wilson Combat (extended) magazine catch and that one had a shelf that was far too low. Rounds were nose diving before hitting the feed ramp. So the SVI Standard Height Magazine catch is too high, Wilson Combat is too low. Does anyone know of a magazine catch that is in between these two and may be just right? I once found a list of manufacturers magazine catch heights in these forums and now I can't seem to find it. To top it all off, I strongly prefer an extended magazine release. Has anyone been down a similar road before? Many thanks in advance!
  4. Hi Eric--they are loaded to 1.190. I am at work and can't measure the feed lips, but I have some new ETM mags (45 ACP) and they all do this.
  5. Good thought, but I am not sure that the bullets ever touch the front of the magazine.
  6. Good question, SS man. .40 caliber in an SVI gun. SVI recommends running Wilson ETM magazines in .45 caliber. This gets the rounds higher in the guns to get them to feed. But this "dragging top round" thing is driving me nuts. All my mags are ETMs. The thought of another investment is daunting.
  7. When I shoot my single stack gun, one issue is that the top round in the magazine is pulled slightly forward from firing. I am guessing that the slide is pulling it forward. When I go to drop the magazine, the top bullet is pulled far enough forward that the magazine will not drop free. Note that empty mags (no round on top) drop free without a problem. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? It does not matter if I fire 1 round or 8 (or anything in between), that top round is always pulled forward and prevents the mag from dropping free. I have to tug the damn mag out of the gun.
  8. I had two break. The old ones are much better. I sent an email to Dawson sales and got no response. Can you please send me a PM so that i can obtain new ones?
  9. I am a big fan of the Techwell TGO magwell for 1911s. The only issue is that you cannot use VZ grips with the TGO without modification. Does anyone know someone who modifies VZ grips so that they can use techwell magwells? I have seen online tutorials for doing this yourself, but I know my own limitations.
  10. Is there a retention holster for spo1s?
  11. Wow--those look perfect. I noticed that the basepads are not sold seperately. I will have to contact Wilson.
  12. Does anyone know of extended metal basepads for Wilson Combat ETM magazines? Before you answer--I own the extended metal basepads that both Wilson Combat and Dawson Precision make. I don't like them because they have very narrow bases. I love the wide basepad of the stock polymer ETM basepad--I just wish it was slightly longer and heavier. Any makers out there that I am not aware of?
  13. Guys, I shoot USPSA 99% of the time. Recently, one of our local ranges was shut down (hopefully only temporarily) and I was thinking of doing some IDPA shooting at another range. One rules question--can you run "bullets out" magazine pouches in IDPA (i.e., can the bullets in your magazines face forward in their pouches rather than being parallel to your belt)? Many thanks, Jay
  14. Do folks consider this good technique with an AR? What are the pros and cons? I shoot limited, BTW. Just curious on more recent thinking. When I learned to shoot in the military, this is how we learned.
  15. I do a fair bit of dry firing. Will parts wear prematurely if I pull the hammer back with my thumb (i.e., no slide manipulation) on my AccuShadow? I would be doing this a lot and don't want to damage my gun. Are things grinding in there in a way that was not intended by the designers? I am not sure if cocking with my thumb is mechanically different than if the slide is pulled back.
  16. The title says it all. Which do you prefer----the AR Gold trigger or Elftmann Tactical 3 gun trigger? Why? I am hoping to hear from folks who have experience with both triggers. Thank you in advance for your replies!
  17. Thanks guys. I just copied the materials from Practiscore into Excel. Very laborious. A very cool future Practiscore feature would be to calculate point series results for clubs. Just have the user input the club matches to be included, the conditions (e.g., the best 8 matches of 12 matches), and rules for people changing class (e.g., going from A Class to M Class) and get the results!
  18. I volunteered (mistake!) to calculate the point series (1 year long) for one of my local clubs. Does practiscore permit you to download XLS files of match scores? What would be the best way of getting scores out of practiscore and into a spreadsheet so I can make the necessary calculations?
  19. Kurt--is your support hand behind the sling or does the sling wrap behind your support hand?
  20. In a recent match, there were lots of shooting positions that required standing and shooting unsupported at small distant targets. There was no way to get kneeling or prone and nothing to brace your rifle on. I have decided to experiment with a Ching Sling in such situations. My only question is around technique. Internet videos vary greatly on how the sling attaches to the rifle and whether or not the support hand goes in front of or behind the forward swivel stud. I know that the sling itself should be high on the back of the support-side arm, but what is the proper position of the support hand relative to the front sling / swivel stud? What is the optimal place to put your swivel studs on your AR's forearm? I may be making a mountain out of a molehill, but I prefer to do things correctly. Does anyone know correct set up and technique?
  21. Striped1--there is no picture on the link. Is the rail IMMEDIATELY ABOVE the gas block just missing in the MLOCK X models?
  22. T3--is that an adjustable gas block? Perhaps I just cant see the gas screw.
  23. I have the clamp on SLR Sentry 7. Wonder if the clamp on is significantly bigger?
