  1. Have a Hiperfire 24-C after upgrading from mil spec. Amazing how much better a quality trigger is.
  2. Nice! Don't think I will be trying the backwards stuff right away. Thank you everyone for the great advice. These are exactly the kinds of pointers that I was hoping to get. That's why I love the shooting community. People here are awesome, thanks for taking the time to help steer me in the right direction.
  3. Thanks Dan for the tips. Mostly looking at trying to improve in the 100-200yard distances. Don't think I'm going to encounter anything further than that at the matches I plan on doing for a while.
  4. Hi, aspiring 3-Gunner here looking for some advice. I'm 43 and have been shooting intermittently since childhood. The bulk of my experience has been shooting handguns, including some IPSC and IDPA. For shotgun, mostly casual skeet shooting and a good bit of dove hunting in my high school years. For rifle, a lot of .22 rifle at relatively short ranges(50yds and under), a little bolt action centerfire shooting, AR15 shooting, including a couple carbine classes. My AR shooting has been mostly well under 100yds with either iron sights or a red dot. I shot my first 3-Gun Match recently and reaffirmed my weakness in offhand rifle at >100yd distances. I do well with the fairly close stuff, but seem to struggle with the longer stuff. Currently using a Burris MTAC 1-4 scope on my AR. Looking for pointers on proper technique for offhand shots with the AR. Things like stance, optimal positioning of my support hand, etc... Seems like many prefer full extension of your support arm with elbow locked and "c-grip" around handguard. I feel like for the longer shots I get a lot of movement of the barrel while trying to get a sight picture offhand. I know practice is one of the things I need the most, but just want to make sure I'm practicing correctly and not creating bad shooting habits. I would really appreciate any tips/pointers or resources that would help me improve this aspect of my shooting. Thanks, Eric
  5. Great looking gun! Thanks for sharing.
  6. Welcome! Tons of great information and people here.
  7. Very happy with all of my Lee Dies (9mm, .223, & .308). They all work perfectly fine for what I need them to do.
  8. Currently using Blade-Tech's iPhone cover and holster and really like it. Pretty low profile and I like that the material isn't sticky so it slides in and out of your pocket easily. I have also used the MagPul iPhone covers and they are very nice as well, and cheap. I also use the InvisibleShield screen protector by Zagg. The Blade-Tech and MagPul covers are probably best suited to the user that isn't super rough on their phone and doesn't need protection against water. I've used the Otterbox Defender and it is nice and offers great protection, but makes the phone too bulky for my tastes.
  9. I went with a G34 and have been extremely pleased with it, no regrets. Used mine in IDPA, 3-Gun, and local ZSA Pistol matches. Served me well for all of them. All that being said, I just picked up a G17 as well, so we shall see how I like that vs the 34. As mentioned above, the G34 is designed for competition so if that is going to be your main use, that would be the one I suggest. If it will be more of an all around gun(range, competition, carry, etc...) I might choose the G17 instead.
  10. For me, dry fire practice. I don't get the opportunity to get out to the range for live fire nearly as much as I like, so dry fire is the next best thing I can do to work on my skills. Also a benefit if your ammo budget is low or for whatever reason ammo or ammo components are hard to find. And since I can do it right in the house, I can squeeze in time for it easily.
  11. That was mine concern as well, I was really hesitant to have it done because of that. It dosent affect it at all, when I am shooting steel or clays i dont even notice the rear sight. Nice, good to know. Might have to send mine off for one as well. Thanks for the info.
  12. Just curious, how does having the rear sight there effect the sight picture with the bead?
  13. Haven't used any of the others, but I love my Hiperfire 24-C.
  14. Frog lube has been working well for me with no issues. The biggest thing about using Frog Lube is to follow the directions and don't just use it like a traditional lube/grease.
  15. I love my Pro 1000. For the price as well as the volume that I load, it works great for me. No issues with it to date. Sure, there are better ones out there, but for my needs the Pro 1000 is perfect.
  16. I just got 5 of them that I recently ordered. They are well made and install easily. I ended up ordering springs from Taran Tactical for them. So far I just have installed two of them. Was able to load up 22 rounds of 9mm, but couldn't get 23 in. Need to load up the mags and let them sit and see if that breaks them in and allows me to get 23 rounds in. Very happy with the product so far, especially for the $19.95 cost apiece. No issues using with my G34 with a Glockmeister mag well installed. Now if they would just make some for AR mags...
  17. Great advice so far. One factor that may be some help in deciding which caliber to start with is availability of components. Pistol powder is not the most plentiful stuff out there right now. You can find it, but not necessarily your first choice of brand, etc... As long as you can find the components you want, you're probably good to start with any of the calibers that you mentioned. Just read through the reloading forums here and make sure you pick up a reloading book or two for reference. There is a wealth of info here and tons of people with lots of experience that can help if you run into issues.
  18. One other option might be to try to trade your G35 for a G34. You might have luck with someone that might be shooting USPSA or something and needs something that makes major PF and would prefer the G35. That way you would be out little to no money and have a 9mm platform with less recoil and cheaper ammo, especially if you're not reloading. I'm just starting 3-Gun and using a G34 now and love it, but I'm getting the 2011 itch myself. As said if you have the money, the 2011 would be awesome. The price of the gun is one thing, but then you have to consider probably having to buy another 3-4 mags, which in a 2011 seem to be at least double the price of Glock mags. This could add another $250 + to your costs, plus holster, mag holders, etc...
  19. So just an update. I ended up putting in the Zev Tech 2# striker spring with the 13# recoil spring. Took it out Saturday and had two failures to fire due to light primer strikes in around 100 rds fired. Both rounds did fire on a second attempt. One was with some Tula 115 gr factory and the other was with my reloads(Berry's 124gr RN, power pistol 5.5gr, Winchester SPP, assorted brass). Disappointed to say the least. So I ordered a Wolff striker spring kit that comes with 4#, 4.5#, & 5# springs. Plan on trying out the 4.5# spring first and see how it goes. Also considering maybe a Zev Tech skeletonized striker with the extended tip, but will see how the new springs do before I spend money on one of those.
  20. Thanks for the info. I need to order a 4 & 4.5 # striker spring to try out with the 13# recoil spring then. The Zev Tech reduced power striker spring that I have that came with their Competition Spring Kit is listed as a 2#, so I don't think I wanna go that low & risk light primer strikes. The one in your kit that says 2.0# is about the same as a Wolff 4.0# spring and the 3.0# is about the same as a Wolff 4.5# spring. They are referring to the trigger pull using those springs when using the complete trigger kit. Oh ok cool. I'll give that one a try with the 13# then. Thanks!
