Good points all around. Most of the knocks on the apps seem that they could be taken care of be turning the screen lock off, putting it on airplane mode while practicing, etc. For $10, if you go that way it seems useful for practice to have an app. And mainly talking practice here and assuming you already have the phone... I still don't know that I've heard anyone really stating the case that a dedicated timer has 10x the benefit of an app. I'm not trying to convince myself or anyone else that an app is better. Both have their place. But for a regular guy practicin... Live fire and dry, not using for matches, outside of posible reliability issues, what else does a dedicated timer do better?

So is most of the trouble with apps things like wind and getting it to recognize shots? Is the benefit of a dedicated timer just reliability?

Maybe I'm not thinking far enough into the functions that are needed. What features on a dedicated timer does everyone use most? Does everyone have their favorite special feature or is it basic shot split, final, par times, etc? What is everyones opinion on what you really need to get the most from a timer?

Ok, so a shot timer is needed. But looking at the threads on dedicated timers and those about smart phone app shot timers, is the benefit of a $100 dedicated timer 10x more than that of an app? I've tried the Surefire free timer and it is functional and very basic. I've researched the IPSC timer app and it has a few more features and is $10 (haven't used). I'm all about getting the most benefit for the cost. Some may call it a tight a$$ but hey, when we're pushing $4 gas and.... What do you think? Anyone with a dedicated timer even bothered with an app to give an honest comparison?

Some of you may have seen this, some great points. I'm all for those who do it the right way, but not for those that come here illegally, cut corners & expect rights that they have not earned. I saw a picture of some CA school kids putting the Mexican flag above an upside down American flag at their school. An American Public School! WTF? I used to be pretty neutral on this subject like most probably were, but this is starting to piss me off. I may be wrong but I think these illegal invaders are going to creat more hostility & backlash from AMERICANS than they ever expected! Oh, and by the way.. the "day w/ out immigrants".. I sure didn't notice any negative impact. Go ahead & take the rest of the month off. Better yet, go home we'll cover it.

Aleve is naproxen, Amoxil is amoxicillin, and Advil is ibuprofen. The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadud, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, & Ibepokin. Pfizer Corporation announced today that Viagra will soon be available in liquid form, & will be marketed by Pepsi Co. as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer. It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one. Obviously, we can no longer call this a soft drink, & it gives new meaning to the names of "cocktails", "highballs", & just good old-fashioned "stiff drinks". Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of "MOUNT & DO".

Mad Cow, Danny Crane Hell yeah that charicter is crazy, but somehow always comes out pretty clean too.. Wound up shooting the "bad guy" a second time when he pulled a gun in court. Just interesting stance for one of the main charicters on a network sitcom.

Just reading through Phred's thred here & it sparked my ever so short memory into recalling this. After watching The Unit Tuseday night I flip over to Boston Legal. Denny Crane (Bill Shatner), in trouble again for shooting someone. At the end when he & his buddy are out on the patio drinking & smoking, Alan (name?) asks him if his love affair with guns is on or off again. Denny answers that everyone should be strapping, "hell all the bad guys are. The answer isn't fewer guns, it is more guns!" Did they just say that on a TV show? A network TV show? You mean they all are not a bunch of gun control liberals? Anyone else see this? Really, I gave an out loud "Hell Yeah" back to the TV..

And they're wondering why they have an ever increaseing rate of violent crimes..
