  1. The problem could also be your bullet/seating depth. If your loading wc or swc I've run into the issue of the edge of the bullet hitting on the lip of the chamber throat. Trying loading up a few dummy rounds at slightly different OAL to test. Sal
  2. Used Unique here for many years cause it works "well" for just about everything. Started wanting something cleaner after "new" Unique didn't seem much improved over the old. Switched to Universal Clays a couple years back and haven't looked back. Then during the shortage I started using magnum primers cause they were all that was available, adjusted my loads down a bit and that seems to clean the burn up even more. Sal
  3. If your having to reset your measure that often I would look deeper into why, this is probably a different issue. A powder that doesn't meter well in a particular powder measure will vary from throw to throw, but still stay within a certain window, say + or - .2g, and should stay within that window indefinitely. If you're desired weight continues to increase or decrease as you're loading, something may be wrong with the powder measure itself not holding it's settings. Sal
  4. I have two Match's, Match 45ACP WITHOUT tact rail 40.6 oz with empty mag installed. Match 10mm WITH tact rail 44.3 oz with empty mag installed. Sal
  5. Personally I would have to disagree with those folks. Work hardening and brittleness come from the stress and internal heat created by the resizing process. Logic would tell me that doing it in two gradual steps would lessen the damage/changes made to the metals temper. Sal
  6. WOW, what a beauty! Hope she shoots twice as good as she looks and pays you back in wins. I jealous as all heck Sal
  7. Universal Clays will give you most of the advantages of Clays without that scary hyper pressure sensitivity issue. Sal
  8. EAA Witness Match .40, + a 10mm barrel and Wolff 18# recoil spring for 10mm conversion here. I reload .40s using Lee dies with the FC crimp die. I've had virtually zero feeding issues using either the factory .40 with spacer, or 10mm mags. Tried a few different OALs and bullet profiles but nothing really gave me any problems. 10mm loaded in same dies tends to be a bit temperamental for me, most FMJ round nose stuff will create the occasional jam with the nose of the bullet hanging on the barrel hood. SWC's or TC bullets cycle with no issues. Sal
  9. I load my 40s to 1.125 to 1.130 and don't have any feed issues with the 10mm mags, get them. Besides you may want to shoot 10mm some day and then all you'll need is a barrel/recoil spring change. I love the cheap option of shooting both calipers. Sal
  10. My M&P is the exact same way regarding length. I load to 1.120" as a result. That's as long as I can load with the 147s and not hit the rifling. If any of my weapons had a short chamber like that I'd either use a different bullet or have the chamber reamed a bit. Short loading can cause many powders to be very unpredictable, a situation that scares the heck out of me. Sal
  11. Hiroshima and Detroit 65 years after WWII. Nuff said, I will make no further comments. Sal
  12. It's a matter of setting your priorities on the wealth of the US. Think of where your money ends up when you research a purchase. When at all possible buy the product that's made by US owned/operated companies, by US workers. Next chose products that are produced by US owned/operated companies, but may use off shore labor. Stop transferring our national wealth off shore. That means do things like quit buying them dang foreign cars using the excuse that they're made here in the USA by union workers. If folks didn't buy them the UAW workers would have the same jobs, only working for a US corp. Before you whine about the decline of the US take a close look at where you send your money. If you can't be part of the economic solutions, at least don't be part of the problem. End Rant Sal
  13. Vihtavuori powders, they cost at least 50% more so they got to be better right? NOT. Then to boot your hard earned US dollars end up in the GNP of Finland. No thanks. Sal
  14. Give Hodgdons Universal Clays a try, very similar to Unique but burns much cleaner. I use Magnums primers for an even cleaner more consistent burn. My load for PD's jacketed 147's is 3.2 g Universal Federal 200 Magnum Primer 1.150 OAL Sal
  15. OK, thanks JCB, One more quick question if you don't mind, You have the 9mm mags with the spacer in front or back? TIA, Sal
  16. Keep us updated on any problems with the 9mm conversion. I'm surprised you had no extraction problems? TIA Sal
  17. It's fine to let a carbide die lightly touch the shell plate. The warnings come from the fact that carbide is so hard and can be cracked from too high a pressure against it. Not really a good idea to have any die put a large amount of pressure on a plate/holder, very hard on the press itself and accomplishes nothing. Once the die touches the plate, the case has fully entered the die it's not going any further into it no matter how much you crank the die down. Sal
  18. My fav is very similar. 180 PDs 5.2 g Universal Federal 200 Magnum primers 1.130 OAL Shoots very well in both my Witness Match 40 and Beretta 96 Brig Inox 1.230 OAL, wow, that's pretty long? Sal
  19. Exactly what I needed, thanks so much! Sal
  20. Sierra SportsMaster 9mm 115g JHP, Powerjacket 8110 Would someone with the latest Sierra loading manual tell me what the recommended OAL is for this bullet? Looking to load with Universal powder if that's listed. I hear Sierra says they should be loaded short and looking at the construction I can see why but can't find the recommended dimension. Any info you can give me would be appreciated. TIA Sal
  21. Thanks for the link! What a nice site with tons of great info. Ordered the RCBS Lock-Out today. Sal
  22. Never mind, talked to someone at Dillon and now see why it's not really possible. Oh well. Sal
  23. I have a Dillon 450B and would like to use a Powder Check on it. If I use my Lee seating/crimping die in station 4 is there some reason I couldn't have the powder check installed in the empty station 3, or is there some other fitment issue here I can't determine? TIA, Sal
  24. Powder Valley has both W231 and HP38 in stock, buy at least 4lbs or the 8lb keg and you'll still save big $ over your LGS even after the $25 HazMat shipping fee. http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/ Sal
  25. Why can't buy one from EAA, did you talk to them?? Unless it's just a case of them being currently out of stock? I bought a 10mm barrel for my Witness Match from them a couple months back, At that time they also offered me a complete 10mm slide assembly too, but I declined and bought the barrel and a couple of mags only to convert my 40. Good Luck Sal
