  1. No they are not new. Springs were my first assumption but Aaron at Tripp said that first round FTf is primarily due to feed lips or needs a raised mag catch from egw if I want to run their mags. I am probably going to get the mag catch just to try it out. It can't hurt. I may just get some more Wilson or Dawson mags. I could switch ammo as well but I don't know if I see the point when it is clearly a magazine issue considering the wc and sti mags ate up the 147's
  2. If you're loading range plinkers, sure. But if you have to make a PF, it's common knowledge that a heavier bullet with a faster powder will provide a softer recoil pulse. I agree with you but 124's aren't bad... The big problem is I just purchased 8k 147's because I wanted to start taking advantage of all the benefits. After some more shooting and research, it really does look like it is a magazine issue. The sti mag and Wilson feeds the rounds fine, it's just the tripps that nose dive. It just seems like the followers are too short in comparison to the others mentioned. What's weird is that I never had an issue until now when switching to the 147's. I understand the bullet profile is different but it's just weird because the 147's look like there lined up w the chamber and then just dive bomb?
  3. This. I had a hard time with the 147s also. My Storm Lake barrel runs a little tight in the chamber, and that was my issue. Failure to go into battery on some rounds, etc. I use Tripps BTW. I ended up running @ 1.125 or slightly shorter, and, after going to a case guage (rather than the barrel) most problems went away. I now run 135gr and use the 1.125 COL. Works fine... Loved the way the 147s shot tho!! I so far, have had the exact opposite results in my SS. I cannot get a round to chamber at 1.135. Unless i apply a little pressure to the bottom of the magazine the 1.150's will not feed either. The rounds at 1.135 were not cycling the gun, however, once I got the 1.150's to chamber the gun ran fine. I do agree with you on the 2011's though. My buddy, Morgan Allen, runs his 9mm's extremely short!
  4. I do still have the factory mag. However I had issues with it right out of the box. Like I mentioned previously, the wc mag worked fine. I only have 1 though because I bought the tripps when I switched to the tech well. I am going to focus on seeing the reliability of the wc mag and the ammo tomm
  5. I don't know if foolish is the correct wording or if i concur in your justification, but as an experienced IDPA shooter as well, I think some things have went down hill. There was at least one if not more "illegal" stages at this past nationals. Regardless, I still think 13 Nats was one of the better ones. I have seen the deficiences in other major matches. I think a lot of the problems are how much they try and dictate the COF's and in turn, they end up being open for interpretation from one SO to another. I have seen multiple rulings overturned at major's this past year for various issues. A few times they were in regards to myself... However I knew the rulebook well and also carry it with me so I could look it up and go straight to the MD.. A perfect example was I was given a procedural for forgetting to go back to a target on a "tac sequence" stage. So they were in the right order, I was just missing my 2nd shot on one target. I was given the penalty instead of a Mike and the SO's response to the MD was "well thats what we've been giving everyone the entire weekend that did the same thing" so hypothetically, a shooter in my div could have received the same procedural that I had overturned and maybe he would have beat me if he had that procedural removed.... I am not sure if there is a clear cut answer to get the game back on track. There have always been haters and there always will be no matter the rule changes. I saw a phase last year at some matches that were geared to get "back to the grassroots" as was stated by the MD's and they were real short COF's with low round counts and more standards stuff then usual. I see what they are getting at but it takes a mixture of stages that cover: speed, accuracy, cover, and mental challenges to make a good match, which i feel that they did with nationals.
  6. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to put this but I figured I would get more answers from guys using this bullet in a 1911. I just switched from 124/125 to 147's from bayou which are a flat nose. At first I suspected it wast he magazines but after more research, now I'm stumped. With a full Tripp research mag inserted the first round is nose diving into the feed ramp from slide lock. If I sling shot the slide from closed chamber, the majority will chamber. Once I get a round to chamber it feeds fine. I had my OAL set to 1.135. I just ran a batch at 1.150 to test tomorrow to see if any longer will chamber better. However, at that length, a loaded round will not eject smoothly from my shield. I had always heard that the tripps were the best mags for 9mm and after talking to a few people, now I am hearing that the Dawson's should cure my problems. I spoke with Aaron at Tripp today and he mentioned to apply a small amount of pressure to the bottom of the mag while releasing the slide stop. 3 out of 5 worked this way and all I believe at the longer length worked. The 124's cycld fine. So my conclusions are as follows: Send mags to Tripp Ditch mags and get Dawson's Bad springs Bad feed lips Egw mag catch( recommended by Tripp) 147 fn just don't run reliably through 1911? I am completely stumped now. Can anyone chime in with their experience? FYI the 1 Wilson mag I have worked fine, but the reasons I'm wanting to use the tripps is because I have a. Tech well magwell for that gun but I guess I could always buy the smaller one that doesn't require Tripp mags w their bigger base pad. Please help!!!!
  7. Yes i am referring to a bulge from the bullet not towards the bottom of the case. It seems like the general consensus is that it's acceptable which I thought as well. I just don't have much experience with the 147 bullet and figured it would be better to ask and get some different opinions
  8. Also, are you sure I should be using the rn? The bayous are a flat point. I have been using the flat point seating die
  9. They pretty much all drop into the gauge. Every single round I have tried has dropped right into the barrel with no issues. I have been loading for a year or two and never saw the issues before. How could the lee crimp die help with my problems? I ask because I am having the issues at a station before it gets crimped. I just don't see how that would help??? Excuse my ignorance
  10. I will get a photo up as soon as possible.
  11. Hello, I am trying to figure out why my cases are slightly bulging with 147 bayous. 85% drop right into the case gauge fine, my OAL is 1.135, I'm belling the cases enough so the bullet can sit in the case without me having to guide it into the seating die. The case is fine through the entire rotation until i seat the bullet. I guess if there running through the gauge fine, it is just cosmetic, but I have never seen these kinds of issues before loading with 124's and the berrys 147's I had loaded previously.
  12. I have had pretty good luck with my conversion barrel. You do have to check the OAL of your rounds however though. I had some issues with mine that run fine in all my other 9's that didn't run very good in the conversion barrel. Also, I believe if you swapped out the ejector and dropped a 34 barrel in the gun, for all intensive purposes would be a 34, but Ill let people with more experience confirm that.
  13. Maybe I'm missing something, but why would one want prize tables and such eliminated? I get people shoot IDPA for different reasons, but in the end, it is a competition. If I was not going to matches trying to win DIV titles and rather doing it for added proficiency, I personally would just stay home and shoot local matches and save a boat load of money! I get the concept behind not accepting video analysis, but if you have a rule that says a video cannot dictate the ruling on a stage, what is wrong with allowing people to take footage of themselves? Im pretty sure the majority are capturing it for personal critique, Facebook glorification, or just fun. I personally have never seen anyone try to argue a procedural on a stage with video footage, but Im sure it has happened somewhere.
  14. Being over on the east coast, I didn't hear anything about this. What was the deal with the WA ST match? What could have possibly been their logic behind not allowing photos? To me, that sounds like all you west coasters should boycott the shit out of that match!
  15. I know. The nerve of some people actually using what they depend on. What's next? Flashlights? No way. That'd be cheating. hahahaha. Dude, if you use your carry gun to shoot IDPA, the G19 will no longer be able to run malfunction free! Once you start getting it dirty and dropping mags on the ground, your screwed. You would be much better carefully removing the empty magazine from the gun and either placing it in your pocket or gently setting it on the ground! And flashlights? Who would use a WML on their gun for defensive purposes? Obviously a noob. Could you imagine a G19 w/ WML in an appendix holster? OH MY THE HORROR! 3 strikes and your out!
  16. Patrick, Thanks for the input. I will look into some others as well though considering that a JP is not really much more money than the AA's. And I definitely agree with your comment about it being more about the person behind the gun then the gun itself
  17. The advantages you would see is with the additional proficiency you would gain if you were shooting and carrying similar platforms. Such as 34 for comp and 19/26 for carry. What most get wrapped up about when talking about IDPA is that most of the "competition" gear is unrealistic for real world carry, which I do agree with. But instead I choose to carry IWB at the same position my comp holster is at.
  18. To my knowledge, your points come from the year previous. For example, my pts from 2013 qualify me for 14, but i may be wrong. Like others have said though, if you get your app out in a timely manner, you will not have issues getting in. I was deployed in 12 and missed the entire season and i was at Nats last year, but most people project the match this yr to have a lot lower attendance so I would almost guarantee you'll be good!
  19. I heard the same rumors of the 41 not fitting, but i knew that Glock would not have screwed up that bad! As far as holsters go, more importantly kydex, I highly doubt anyones 34 holsters will fit the 41. The slide profile may be the same, but most kydex holsters get there retention off of the trigger guard, which is quite a bit larger on the .45 glocks
  20. What are you thinking shooting a G19! Are you crazy LOL. Kidding, I really respect dudes that shoot what they carry!
  21. I definitely see where your coming from Chris, but most people treat IDPA the same way they treat USPSA. In the end, both are a game and anyone who argues that is ridiculous. Guys want to be just as competitive shooting IDPA and take advantage of all of the little things just like in the latter. Hence why the OP is using a G34 and not a G19. As far as a holster goes, I like Comp-tac quite a bit better than BT. BT's stuff was awesome, but Im not to keen on the new. Other than CT, I think Safariland's 5197,5198,5199 series of holsters(all the same, different belt attachment) are the best bang for the buck out there! They have good stand-off from the body and are quick. You could also look at Ghost, DAA, Armadillo concealment and I'm sure theres many many more
  22. Patrick, I definitely value your opinion. It is much more informed than mine. I have only shot "battle rifles" up to this point and it was the softest gun I was able to play with there. I would greatly appreciate your input to some options you may like better since you have a lot more rounds down range with this style of AR. like I mentioned previously, I want to make one purchase and be covered for anything that is thrown at me down the road.
  23. Thank you for your response. I suspect anything I shoot locally to not be much past 100 if at all, but goal is to travel south and west after I become more proficient to compete so I want to make sure the rifle I buy will serve me in any scenario. I'm planning on tac optics for the time being. I'm a big 1911 guy in handgun comp so I'd love to shoot it as well and I have the benelli supernova but getting into launching tons of .308 down range at the current moment would not be feasible for me. I am up in the air with optics. I think I will settle on the vortex razor w Jm reticle. I work in the industry so I can get industry deals through Swarovski and some others and can do mil discount through leupold, but being that I'm new to scoped rifle shooting I think the vortex will serve me well. I've looked at the mtac and bushnell cheapos. I liked the reticle in the bushnell the best didn't care for the mtac but the eyebox on the vortex seemed a lot more forgiving
  24. Yes that was the rifle in question. it weighed around 7.5 lbs and is a piston gun. I am not sure if the BCG is lower mass than the JP, but the damn thing was definitely light as hell for sure! I guess the only other thing that I really saw that it is missing besides the 2" of barrel is most of the other people I'm seeing are using stainless barrels. Is that for accuracy purpose or weight?
