That is a sweet frame but I have all but the magwell finished on my SS.

Building a SS for the SS division. I know of the size advantage of a Dawson or a S & A magwell over a weld on magwell. Is anyone shooting a SS with weld on in SS division with a Hienie or Briley that they would care to add any comments. I am in the process of putting together a SS and really like the weld on ones as they do not add any length to the grip. Thanks John McKenzie

I do not mind letting someone else do it. Should I machine it as is and then send it off to have the hard cchrome removed and and new finish put on or have the chrome removed and then machine and then new finish? thanks John McKenzie

Okay guys, I have a commander that I am wanting to change. It was hard chromes about 16 years ago and has been my carry gun and home protection since then. Now I am ready to change it. How to go about hard chrome removal? Basically I want to bobtail it and do a little machining to the slide. Then have it done with Bobbys (Freedom Gunworks) finish. Should I machine it with the hard chrome on it? I work at a machine shop. thanks

Just curious, what was happening specifically? gunsmiths and they told how to check your pistol Larry I went to one of the custom gunsmiths and they told how to check your pistol as far as the trigger job. In the article he said to after making sure the pistol was unloaded to cock the hammer and then to push the slide back about a quarter of an inch and pull the hammer. If the hammer falls then you have a bad disconnecter most likley. So my 1911 failed this test. From there I took it took a local pistol smith and he had several disconnecters and installed that and a new sear. Working great now. Johnny

Hey guys, I have a 1911 that I am setting up to use for SS. I am wanting to square the trigger guard on it. I was wondering if the holsters that are popular in SS will take a square trigger guard or will I have to modify the holster. Thanks John McKenzie
