  1. I called Bill at Wolf today to discuss a few things. I did mention that the issue of lighter loads and power factor had been brought up. Bill says that Wolf is already aware of this and they are moving to change this as I sit here and type. The first improved loads will be out within the next few months and will be available in 55-grain first and 62-grain shortly thereafter. I also asked him about 6.8 Remington. Wolf has no plans for a 6.8 load at this time. Also, the 168 BTHP load for the .308 should be out in a few months.
  2. I have found that both my SW1911Sc and my SW1911 will not eject without a magazine in the pistols. It looks to me like the extractor is too narrow and also might sit a little too high in the slide. Did you encounter this same thing? How did you fix it? I have a Caspian and had (traded for something else) a Wilson KZ-45. Both of these guns extracted and ejected like a 1911 should. I think the Caspian external extractor is a good alternative to the real one.
  3. I've had several 1911 single stacks worked over and a couple more built from parts by Tripp Research. I highly recommend Virgil!
  4. I have a 9mm Gov't Model that I have been shooting quite a bit as of late in IDPA. I'm using the Springfield-type 9mm mags with the built-in feed ramp and groove along the front. The factory capacity is 9 rounds. I wonder if a Chip McCormick follower would work properly if I cut a notch in the front to match the groove in the mag tube. That'd give me ten rounds in the mag. Anybody tried this yet?

  7. I received my shipment of ammunition, t-shirts, and hat on Friday. I'm looking forward to blasting away with the new ammo. If you get a chance to shoot at AZ Shooter's World or South Mountain and happen to see a skinny dude in a white "Wolf" shirt, stop and say hello!
  8. Thanks for checking, Mark. With regards to next month's match, I haven't got the latest work schedule yet but I'll call in sick if I have to. I hope my boss doesn't frequent this board!
  9. I have found that Wolf 62 grain ammo shoots to the same point of aim and to about the same level of accuracy as Winchester 64 grain Power Point, which is my agency's issued duty ammo. Given these results, I find Wolf to be a good practice alternative. I've never run any across a chronograph but it does feel a little "light."
  10. I really don't want to start another "Wolf will break your gun" thread so please do not add those comments to this post! I have been using Wolf 9mm and .45 ammo in most of the local IPDA matches I shoot in here in the Phoenix area. I recently contacted them and we talked about my shooting and my use of their ammo. Well, to make a long story short, Wolf has graciously agreed to send me 1,000 rounds of 9mm and 1,000 rounds of .45 to shoot. I'm officially Wolf's first IDPA sponsored shooter! All they want in return are a few pictures of me shooting and some feedback on their handgun ammo line. Plus they'd like me to wear a Wolf T-shirt and baseball cap. No problem! I give my thanks to Wolf for their support of the shooting sports. I'm proud to be a supporter of their products!
  11. Well, I shot in what we believe to be the first ever sanctioned TSA match yesterday at the Phoenix Rod & Gun Club. There were about 15 people who showed up to shoot. We shot four stages. Two were pretty much IDPA-type stuff with cover, drawing from concealment, etc. The other two stages were drill courses with no concealment required. One stage was 21 rounds minimum and another was 18 rounds minimum. Total round count for all four stages was about 60 rounds. I think everybody who came out had a good time. It'll take awhile before everybody's comfortable with the different rules, etc. I do like shooting more steel and I'm glad to see this change over the usual IDPA match. Plus we had some 20 yard shots, which are always fun and can really test a shooter's skill. Also the rules are somewhat looser with which targets can be engaged in which order, etc. so each shooter can use a little creativity when it's his turn to shoot. Overall, it was a fun match and I look forward to next month's. Anybody looking for more info should visit azidpa.com or contact Mark Perez here on the board.
  12. I plan on using my Krebs KTR-03V for three gun stuff. With a drum mag in place, I won't have to worry about the slow reloads and lack of a bolt hold-open. Now I just need time to shoot!
  13. At least somebody here has a good attitude about things...
  14. Well, I got a chance to hit the range and run some rounds through my "new" 9mm. While the .38 Super mags will feed ball they won't feed hollowpoints. The rounds in the mag nosedive and get stuck in the mags. With hollowpoints the sharp edge snags on the front edge of the mags and will not feed. I have ordered four of the Springfield mags from Brownell's. Hopefully those will get my 9mm 100% with everything.
  15. Hello. I'm in the process of converting my .38 Super single stack to a 9mm to use as a skills builder and ESP gun. Who's mags should I be looking at? Mec-Gar? Metalform? Thanks, as always.

  17. I have shot 300-400 rounds of Wolf .45 through my Caspian (Virgil Tripp built) without a problem. I'll shoot more of it, as it's good stuff for practice.
  18. In high-pressure rifle rounds, Wolf has a well-known reputation for failures to extract. I've seen failures to extract with the 9mm Para stuff, but invariably when that happens, as far as I've seen, it's always been in a Kahr or Hi-Power, both guns with extremely tight chambers. OTOH, I've never had, nor seen, a single malfunction with Wolf 9x18mm Makarov or .45 ACP. I was the 2002 Washington State IDPA Champion in Custom Defensive Pistol (IDPA's .45 auto division) shooting handloads in Wolf casings - so obviously it didn't handicap me TOO much! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm currently on my fourth or fifth case of Wolf .223. I've fired all this in a number of different rifles, to include select fire M4's and it has never given me extraction problems. I have been using the new polymer stuff. Maybe the older lacquer stuff would stick in the chamber or maybe it's just Internet legend.
  19. I bought 1,000 .30 caliber bullets from him to use in my M-1A and M-1 Garand. They shoot fine. I'd like to try his pistol bullets one of these days.
  20. Hi, Merlin! You bought that pistol from me. I'm glad you like it. I've thought about selling this RIA and getting a "name brand" Super but can't see any real difference between this and a high dollar Colt. Of course the Rock Island doesn't have any pride of ownership but it's fun to shoot well at a match and then tell the guys shooting the Les Baers that I beat them with a cheapo gun.
  21. Here's the gun in its final form. I finally got the beavertail installed and got some Novak tritium sights put on. The gun is accurate and reliable with stock 9-rounders. It feeds fine from a ten round Chip or Wilson mag but neither will lock the slide open all the time. I've got just over $600 into the gun now and it's a good shooter. I've fed it mostly 160 cast reloads with a few boxes of Winchester Silvertips thrown in. I also stuck in a heavy spring and ran some .38 Super major through the gun. One of these days I'll have to see if it'll run with 9x23. All in all, not a bad gun for the money.
  22. Thanks. Any help with load data for a 180 or 200 grain cast bullet? I've found the Lasercast 185's to be amazingly accurate but a little smokey. Anyway, I have some onhand if you can give me some possible data.
