My AOL is 1.43. No, I keep the gun pointed down, then raise it to level, and pull the trigger. I'd guess the powder is all up front with the bullet.

No, how would I do that? Point the gun straight up, then slowly lower it to level? Never thought of that. Will they do that when I chrono my loads at Mesquite Mayhem?

Oh, I'm shooting it in an S&W 627 with a five inch barrel, performance center.

Hi Guys, I'm chasing my tail trying to get a .38 special load with Berry's 158 plated bullet to make minor. I tried using a book load of 4.4gr of 231, and I'm not even close. The book says, 820fps, my chrono (and my buddy's) say 680. Does anybody have a 231 or Titegroup, or Clays load with a Barry's 158gr bullet that makes minor? I'm not looking for what the books say, I'm looking for something that somebody actually loaded and chrono'd. Thanks in advance.

Yep, the correct setup for a S&W 617 seems to be a .200 tall .100 wide front slght with a .160 rear blade. Or a .225 - .250 tall front slght with a .196 rear blade. The reason I went with the SDM Super Sight over the Dawson is the SDM has a larger fliber optic. On my 5" 627 it's the prefect setup for me. A 4" gun moves it closer to the rear blade, so it appears bigger (at least to me).

This is a SDM Super Sight .250 with a .160 rear blade. I'm guessing a .196 would allow me to lower the sight .036?

What's the cost?

The cheapest ammo I found is the Remington 130gr bulk ammo, but it doesn't make power factor. But the brass is good.

Since the SDM is .250 x .125 I had to open up the rear sight blade both to make the notch deeper so I could see the whole fiber optic, and wider so I could see light around it. Since a 6" gun would have it farther away, you may not need to do this. On my 4" gun I had to. Tomorrow is the range day.

I just put a .250 SDM Super Sight on my 4" 617, and a .160 rear blade. I'll let you guys know how it works out on Monday. If the .160 isn't tall enough, I've also got a .196. The stock sights were as useless as the stock sights on a GI 1911.
