  1. I use a gutted FCD in the 2nd station after the Dillon size die. Rounds go in and out of the case gauge no problem. Even tired old practice brass.
  2. I'm using Vectan powder for my 9mm. Mainly because it's cheap and I couldn't get any Vihtavouri at the time of purchase. The only problem is that it measures very poorly in my powder measure on my 1050. My load is 4.2gr. When ever the amount of powder looks suspiciously low I remove the case and weigh it. I find some that are as low as 2.8-3.2gr which is a lot of deviation even for practice ammo. I make sure that the spring on the fail safe rod is half-way compressed, as I've read on the forum it is supposed to be. I don't have the problem with other powders so I know the powder measure isn't broken. Would it help to polish the bottom of the powder container? Here is what the powder looks like. Any ideas?
  3. Is it a 1050? What do you mean by shuttle casting? Do you mean the case feeding stem? I'm having the same problem so it would be nice if this is the solition.
  4. My mistake! The aluminum grips are made for large frame also but not the brass ones.
  5. Gun is a small frame. I don't think he makes them for large frame at the moment.
  6. The brass ones a very bling, and very heavy... adds 80 grams to the total weight.
  7. I have the Grauffel grips on all my guns and really love them! For my match gun I have the new ones in brass.... they look AWESOME!!
  8. I have 3 Stock II's, I'm quite certain they come with a 16lb spring. With primers of normal hardness I run a 15lb and extended FP. But they are not good for more than 10.000 rounds then the spring needs replacing. With federal primers you can go down to 14lb. Haven't tried the 13lb. By the way, if you want a really good crisp none-creep SA pull on the Stock II you need the old one-piece sear and the Xtreme hammer from Eric Grauffel.
  9. I have had lead poisoning for 2 years. It started (I think) with bullet casting and not paying attention to hygiene. YES I used to smoke, drink, eat and pick up brass simultaniously as if it didn't effect anything, boy was I wrong. First time I got tested was in 2011, my number was 30. So I started to wear a respirator mask when casting bullets, and focus more on personal hygiene. That didn't help one bit. Now, 2 years later I have finally found the source of my contamination - my shooting range. I know what you're thinking: "Everbody knows indoor shooting is bad", so do I..... this is an outdoor range. The problem is that the back stop and side beams are 30 feet high and very rich on vegetation plus the wind is always right in your face.... and after a 300 round session I could taste the lead when i got home! I now shoot with a small half-face 3M mask with the appropiate filters. I can no longer taste the lead when shooting. I have been monitoring my level of exposure for the last 2 years. In 2012 my number was 70 which is too high. I even had to go through chelation therapy. Since then it has been a little up and down. In Denmark it's very cold and windy in winter, so during that period my level is lower than in the summer. I have had VERY good results with eating a fresh water algea called chlorella which chelates lead from you system. Along with cilantro tincture which is good for mobilizing accumulated lead, I have been able to cut my exposure in half. You should also be aware that exposure to lead is still an issue when shooting FMJ's - lead bullets are not the only culprit. Priming compound consists of lead styphnate with is a very toxic form of lead. The black/grey residue left on brass after firing contains a lot of lead styphnate. I too wear nitrile gloves when loading, cleaning and picking up brass. I also use wet tissues that I have in my car.
  10. We are in the same situation. We do not have kids, my girlfriend doesn't like expensive jewelry and designer clothes, none of us drink alcohol or have other expensive habits. We love to shoot and we love to shoot alot. We enjoy our time together on the range and i love molding her into the great shooter I know she can be. I agree with some of the posts above; there was too much stage crammed into too little space. BUT one should be able to move within a confined area with a loaded gun without pointing it in an unsafe direction.
  11. I've been training my girlfriend in the beautiful art of IPSC shooting for about 9 months. She has come along way and is already a decent shot. We've long had an agreement that me RO'ing her at the local matches would be a bad idea. If she made any offenses which I didn't see people could question my RO'ing abilities. This has worked out fine until the last match. My RO assistant was on a short detour and suddenly my girlfriend was on deck. She walks to the line looks at me and goes "sooooo you will be my RO?". Considering she wasn't a noob anymore and is used to me being behind the beeper during practice I thought to myself that this, the first time I had to RO her, would go just fine! It didn't....... The video pretty much speaks for itself... I made the mistake of telling her not to point outside of the safety angle. To follow the wise words of one Lanny Bassham what I should have told her was to always point the gun in a safe direction. The theory is that by telling a person what NOT to do like pointing outside the safety angle or hitting a no-shoot you can accidently program the subconscious to do exactly that. The shooter later admitted to not making getting out of that position part of her plan. As can be seen from the video the safety angle was indeed very tight and you really had to take the gun all the way back to you chest in order to proceed to the next position. She wasn't upset with me and kept her head held high and for that I am very proud of her. It was her first DQ and I'm sure she will never again neglect a vital part of her plan.
  12. Limited Custom - 150.000 rounds! Front sight lost after 30k Extractor worn after 75k Rear sight broke after 120k After 80k switched to EGW hammer and sear - sear broke 30k rounds later (Just after it started to make unprovoked hammer fall), replaced by factory sear. The gun recently started to malfunction quite often. A nice mixture of double feeds, failure to feeds, stove pipes, mags that won't eject (still) unprovoked hammer fall etc. A tanfoglio is without a doubt a very reliable gun. That amount of rounds takes its toll on a gun.... I just bought a Stock 2 for production, got it 2 days ago and passed the 1000 round mark today! Nice gun, really happy with it!
  13. Thanks a lot guys I wrote an email to Brazos asking if these screws also fit STI mounts. I have also contacted STI to see if they have longer screw for their scope mounts. If they don't come through I will take you up on your kind offer to send me a few!
  14. I have bought a DAA thumb rest for my STI Grand Master. The holes in the thumb rest correspond the holes in the Cmore mount however the screws with which the Cmore is mounted are not long enough to accommodate a thumb rest! I measured the threading on the screws which are 40G 1/8" according to a threading measure tool. The screw i counter sunk and have a diameter of 0.123". Does anybody know where I can find usable screws?? What do the rest of you Open shooters do?? Help is much appreciated DVC
  15. I turns out my sear is cracked I will install the stock sear and use in this summer's matches before I will get another EGW. One should think that a hardened aftermarket sear would last longer than 40.000 rounds!
  16. CHA-LEE I tried doing your test, and the hammer always catches on the sear. When I lock the slide back and push the trigger guard against the side of a table and release the slide, the hammer doesn't fall. So I think this is the starting phase of the problem. But I cannot live with it as it is right now! Henning: I'll will try to have a competent gunsmith redo my sear. I know a guy who does magnificent trigger jobs on STI's, will he be able to do this, or should I find one who has experience with Tanfoglio and CZ??
  17. My Limited recently started to misbehave. When I activate my slide stop the slide sometimes takes the trigger along with it, which has resulted in one accidental discharge so far. Also when I run it dry and change the mag, I'm sometimes not able to activate my slide stop. Needless to say I really don't trust this gun anymore! A little info on the gun: Limited Custom 9mm small frame. EGW hammer and sear (shot 40.000 rounds), Huening trigger Plunger and Henning flat trigger. The gun is 10 years old and I think my round count is about to reach the 150.000 mark. The EGW hammer and sear was bought by Henning 2 years ago. Is 40.000 rounds all you can expect from this set??? If anyone has any ideas they will be greatly appreciated. Regards from Denmark DVC
  18. Thanks Chuck. Strange that they measure 0.200" when the large primer tubes are 0.212". They must be out of spec! I wrote the supplier and he says he only stocks and sells. I've written Dillon about the issue and am sure they will send me replacements. They have always offered me the best customer service, and I am certain they will do so in this case also!
  19. I just bought 4 Dillon primer tubes from a european supplier. 2 of the tubes flip the primers and are pretty useless. The tube that came with the machine has NEVER flipper a primer, so I knew something was off!! I measured the inside of all 5 tubes, and the 3 that work measure 0.182" and the 2 that flips the primers measure 0.200", obviously this is what is causing the primers to flip. Will Dillon replace the 2 tubes or should I contact the eauropean supplier?! Has anyone else had this problem??
  20. Here we are not allowed to shoot ANYTHING that resembles a human being. USPSA targets are therefore not allowed - only metric IPSC targets. If I were to bring an election sign to the range and punch holes in my least favorite politician, I would be banned from the club in a heart beat!! And since club membership is compulsory for owning a hand gun, I would loose my guns as well. So for me, only paper plates.....
  21. Hey all. I have some time on my hands the next few months, and after doing great at the last match I want to go all in!! I've constructed a training program. Emphasis will be on improving as much as possible. I plan on dry firing 30 minutes every day, and doing live fire every day as well - monday through friday. I started reading "With winning in mind", and will try to incorporate it in my training. I cast my own bullets, so cost of ammo is of no concern to me! Unless I shoot specific drills, I will always do what I can to challenge myself by varying the distance to the targets, and will always have a 50/50 ratio of clean targets and targets with varying percentages covered by no-shoots. Mag changes will be done during dryfire with mags loaded with dummy rounds. Unless otherwise specified each target will be engaged with 2 shots. Targets will be metric IPSC targets as well as 60% targets, I do not have access to steel, but will incorporate paper plates and a rubber plate rack. Maximum possible distance is 20 yards. Monday : Transitions: Brian Enos' Transitions drill - 150 rounds El Prezidente - 150 rounds 6 targets at 8 yards 1 yard between. Shooting from left-right, right-left and also shooting T1, T6, T2, T5, T3, T4 - 100 rounds Tuesday: In/out of shooting positions: Dice Drill. 4x2 targets at 8-10 yards, 4 boxes placed like the eyes of a 4-dice, moving from box to box shooting 2 targets per box - 200 rounds 2 tagets at 20 yards, 4 yards between, 2 boxes at 20 yards. Moving into box A shooting both targets, moving to box B shooting both targets - 150 rounds. Same as above but with boxes at 10 yards - 150 rounds Wednsday: Groupings/precision. (Emphasis will be on trigger control and calling shots) Plate rack at 20 yards, going from left-right and right-left - 100 rounds. Same as above but at 10 yards - 100 rounds 1 target at 20 yards, draw engage - 100 rounds Thursday: Shoot on the move: Varying targets from 5-10 yards, 4-5 targets. Shooting going forwards, backwards, left-right, right-left. Every week targets will be placed in a different manner - 500 rounds Friday: Shoot through apertures - shoot knealing/proning - stong hand/weak hand Varying targets at varying distances. Will shoot through a mobile wall with 4 vertically placed holes. Shooting 2 targets at 10 yards, first strong hand then weak hands - 50 rounds each Once in a while I will replace the day's practice with classifiers to measure my improvements. The above is not a final or ever lasting program. As I progress I will of course change the drills and distances, so I do not get used to specific drills and specific placements of targets. But I will stay true to focusing on 1 thing per session, much like bodybuilders do! Some might find the amount of ammo used each day as being severe. During my last 5 trips to the range, I often see good improvements happening after the 400 round mark. If I can remain focused I cannot see anything wrong with shooting 400-500 rounds per session. 2 days of the week I will be accompanied by a fellow IPSC shooter who is on my skill level and who is equally ambitious. I think it will be beneficiary to have a shooting buddy to compete against and train with. So... what to you guys think? Am I on the right track?! Should I do anything different or add anything? I thought about writing down my scores/times to see for improvements. All comments are greatly appreciated.
  22. For every stage of every match, put all of your attention there. For every stage of every match, adopt and "I don't care where I finish" attitude. be I think this is what pulls me down. After the monthly match I always conclude that I'm better in practice than at the matches, I'm way better at calling my shots when I practice and at matches it does not happen as much as I would like it to. I can feel adrenalin has something to do with it and I forget all about breathing... Although at the last match I experienced what I think you call "Just letting go". After the bip everything just went exactly as I had planned and executed it in my head... and I have no idea how I did it... it was like it just happened. When I think back I don't know exactly what I was thinking about, nothing maybe?! I got stage win with all 45 available points in 8.54sec. Number 2 did it in 10.54. I blew my mind that I had been that much faster. I keep thinking if I can shoot like that in the other stages I would be really good.... I just need to harness that feeling/state of mind I was in before and during COF. But that is obviously easier said than done...
  23. Assuming you are shooting Standard, based on your El Prez hit factor of 8.92, you are a high A. Of course this is subjective based on the info given. Have fun! THANK YOU
