  1. I asked on another forum but would like some opinions here. I have a Less Bauer PII that keeps breaking these pins (two), one was the original the other was a Cylinder and slide...the grip safety works fine....I do use heavy loads but they do not batter the gun in any way I can detect. The strut looks fine but it is hard for me to tell if the hammer stops here or on the grip safety. The mods I have made to the gun should not effect this part... Thanks Bill
  2. JB my smith 1911 runs 255 at 1.20 all day! It's just the LB that I run them a bit short..The 625 either oal works but for some strange reason the shorter oal is more accurate.. Bill
  3. 255 swc are a very different animal than a 200 gr. I also have a ransom rest and form my LB premier II ...These bullets group 1" at 25 yards. only need them for pins at 25'. If I load any longer than 1.93, even with the bullet sized to .451, they will not go into battery. I load 5.8 grs in my 625 and they run 925+, it has only a 4" barrel..I don't have the attachements for this gun yet to use the rest but on a bag at 25 yards they are all under 2.5".... The 850-875 stuffs in the 5" guns leave a very small amount of leading but the revolver has quite a bit after a match..does it's job quite well when the pins get heavy.
  4. I usually run a 255 swc at 1.20 with 5.3 unique. 875 fps Now one gun I use has to have a oal of 1.92 or less ( tight chamber ) with the same bullet...Out of the same gun these loads differ by 30 fps, I thought this is due to a bit more pressure due to less case space. Am I wrong in assuming this? Bill
  5. Yesterday I checked my theory about the smaller sized brass sizing down a lead bullet. I loaded up some hot rounds for my 625. 12 were sized with the u-die and crimped with a normal crimper ( not LFD ) 12 were loaded using a normal sized sizing die and a LFC die...12 normal die and a normal crimp die.. The only bullets that didn't "walk" especially the last two rounds, were the ones using the regular die and crimper.
  6. I shoot pins with two 1911's. Both have the EGW pin stops in them with a very small radius. I also run heavy recoil spring rods in them. before the changes to these guns I would use a 22# spring but now both guns use a 17-16# spring with about 4000 rounds and no sign of battering. I tested recoil and gun movement between the two and the guns stay on target a lot better now. As far as felt recoil it is a tad lighter now with the same loads... My loads are 255 swc under 5.3-5.4 unique aol 1.93. They run about 870 or so. I don't know which helped the most the EWG stop or the heavy recoil spring rods...But they shoot so well I hate to mess with them!
  7. I did a trigger job..Followed JM's vedio... Front sight changed to FO. Hogue rubber grips extended firing pin light 13# return spring wolf reduced power main spring the trigger pull is 6.25# and is a dream to shoot. Must use fed primers set all the way. I would like to know if there is a bobbed hammer drop in on the market. I want to try this set up but want to keep the option open to go back to my original one.
  8. WST 4.2 is my favorite 9mm load using 124 MG jhp...Runs aboun 1080 out of my CZ 75b! Recoil is good and they shoot great.
  9. Not that the other guns mentioned aren't nice. The LB is a true experience of American craftsmanship. The hand fitting is what sold me on them.
  10. I love my 625 but I have a ransom rest and test all my loads with it...I have a LB 1911 which at 50 yards shoots under 2"....I have a S&W 1911 only thing tuned besides the trigger was I fitted a barrel bushing and this shoots 4" at fifty yards...both are sort of out of the box...my 625 shoots 7-8 inch at 50......I did a lot of load testing to bring the 625 to par with my bottom feeders but could not. It's still one hell of a shooter at 30' where pins are usually at....
  11. WOW! I have loaded 10000+ 255 swc in my dillon for my 625 and they are no different than loading RN..As a matter of fact they have a beveled base and I don't flare as to keep as much retention I can get.
  12. I like pistols and revolvers..Just started shooting a revolver da 6 month ago....WOW I had to work at that but it has paid off big time..I shoot pins and not having to squirm your hands while cocking is fast way fast..If anything my bottom feeders are easier to shoot quickly and accuratly due to my 625...just got done with a trigger job that brought the da down to 6.5 hughe difference!
  13. When you are seating a bullet in a cartridge that is smaller than spec it might just crush the soft lead down a bit making it a tad smaller than .452. This is what I meant..I sort of think this happens to a small degree.
  14. I have one of these but I think it is distorting my lead bullets( resizing) as they are being seated. It works great on jacketed stuff with setback but I do notice accuracy loss using it with lead. Anybody else noticed this? Thanks Bill
  15. I don't shoot target loads very often because I enjoy pin shooting. I run some heavy weights and since installing a square bottom FPS my guns run smoother and I went down 2 lbs on my springs. Seems to help me but I am sure that shooting the regular ones there are advantages for some.
  16. That seems like it would be a rather manly load, pushing the 255gr that fast. I've got to read up on shooting pins--I'm not familiar with that game but it sure sounds challenging. Anyway, the big bullets definitely change the feel, especially down around 650 fps! I'm looking forward to trying another powder or two in the hope of finding something that produces better consistency, but mostly for entertainment. Some very experienced shooters run 5.7 unique in a 1911 with a compensator. I find that when the pins get heavy a 5.5 load is as far as I want to go in my autos. Some shoots I attend there are 30+ shooters and at the end of the shoots the pins are very heavy. I do also use 230 LTC with 4.8 wst and 6.0 unique. They run just under 900.
  17. I load for a cz, 124 MG JHP, short 1.08 and found that 4.3 wst is the ticket for now.. They run at 1080+ and group real well, I do headstamp and run the same headstamp per shoot. I also have to ever so slightly adjust the crimp from win to fc to get closer results between the two.
  18. I just switched to wst using a lead tc 230. I have tried 4.7-5.0 with a col of 1.20. These are a bit hot but I am a pin shooter and like driving these around 900 fps. The 5.0 is on the verge of flattening the primer a bit but both loads shoot clean and at pin distances are one hole shooters. I shoot these in a 5" 1911 and my 625...I also use 255 swc on occasion, when there is a lot of shooters and the pins get heavy. I can't use wst because it is too fast but use unique at 5.7-6.4 for these loads. They group at 2 inches but the 230 get below 1"@ 30'.
  19. I have a 625 with a 6#+ da. To get my fed primers real tight I use my 550b but crank the shell plate down hard , it can't be moved and prime one case at a time this with cleaning- unifying the pockets makes for all primers to be seated .008 low or lower.
  20. Thanks for the reply. The elevation screw is bottomed out as High as the adjustment will go up. I think I will have to shim the back of the dot.Bill
  21. I have a 625 with a weaver mount. My ultra dot LT bottomed out at 50 feet shooting 5" high. I need to raise the front a bit, should I do this with the mount or put a shim under the front of the sight.
  22. One day I was curious about this..My buddy is a video nut and has a high speed camera... I tested two things that day. The variable spring compared to a standard and different loads on bowling pins..The later I will keep a secret. I was using a Bear PII with a FBFPS and a solid tungsten steel spring rod. I shoot heavy loads with this gun. The difference was shown with the videos was quite a bit. My gun would recoil 2"+ higher with a standard 18 lb spring than with the 18.5 variable. The gun would also be less off the line wind age wise, Also it seemed the slide was a bit faster with the variable. Wish I had copies of those tapes. Recoil that I felt was negotiable though. Too hard for me to tell. FWIW
  23. I am loading 125 MG JHP with 4.3 AOL 1.09 and it is very accurate and clean burning. Out of my CZ75 it runs about 1005 FPS.
  24. You mean that horrible external extractor hasn't caused the gun to malfunction, catch fire, and blow up? J/K How easy is it to do a trigger job on the SW1911? I have one and it is great..EXCEPT don't try and put a c-more serendipity on her. You will never be able to tune the ejection to eliminate stove-piping! External extractor is it's albatross, IMO
