  1. I'm ALWAYS out of that Dillon rapid polish stuff that you add to the tumbling media. Bill
  2. Indexing your bare hands, aka air gunning, is a no no in IDPA because of the desire to have a cold start as jmc said...so, without air gunning, I just imagine myself shooting the course. Bill
  3. Yeah Kevin, AND the pay SUCKS!!!
  4. The first word of this thread was supposed to be "Why" not "Was"...I don't know how I messed that up. I guess it just frustrates me when you hear the IDPA folks says shit like "A Glock won the Nationals" or "Robbie wasn't the fastest." I'd like to see Rob smoke everyone, which he almost did with the 45....guess I should have posted this in the Hate section. Kelly, The 10mm used to be considered CDP, but they've now moved it to ESP. Bill
  5. Why does he shoot CDP and not shoot ESP and whoop everyone's *ss?? Brian? Anyone? Bill
  6. Thanks Shooter Grrl, I need to make it a priority, especially since I work on a military installation and am in the car for about an hour every morning trying to get to work....the local radio stations suck.
  7. To be honest, no I haven't bought the CD yet even though I intend to....there's just too many things to get done in 24 hours, and buying the CD is low on the list of priorities. Bill
  8. Thanks Chris, I'll give it a try.
  9. Scooter, Hey thanks, that may work after I have the wife give it the heavy starch treatment...it looks a little floppy in the photo. http://www.aspitactical.com/clothes_result...PRODUCT_ID=2483 Bill
  10. Ladies and Gents, What is considered a respectable draw time for an IDPA rig? I'm shooting CDP with a 1911, and using a Blade-Tech...I'm real close to breaking into Master with my latest classifier times in the 90's. I can score a 10 yard center shot at an avg time of 1.2, with the occasional 1.1...and if I push it I can score a so-so hit, which obviously isn't desirable, in 1.0 seconds, and occassionally 0.9-0.95 sec. Bill
  11. Bill, SSR-Master...very impressive!! And I thought Dave Jackson was quick with a revolver <he's shooting on the high side of SSR, almost a Master> Please let us know how it goes, and if you can let us know the top shooters for each category. Bill
  12. Dave, I worked for Fed Ex through college and I second the motion to go with them...I knew a few UPS and Airborne Express couriers and I heard too many horror stories. Tip: Pack your gun(s) in a box within the box. Bill
  13. SS, Very well said...why should they care whether or not you're gaming if the score doesn't matter. Reminds me of a saying we had in the Army, "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying...and if you get caught you ain't trying hard enough." Obviously you shouldn't take that saying to the extremes <like loads that don't make the PF>. Bill
  14. SS, Yeah, there must be more IDPA gamers out there, but I'm thinking that most of the guys on this forum are into ipsic...when you first started this thread I was excited because I thought some real neat info would come out of it, and I was real disappointed when there were hardly any replies. Bill
  15. I'm looking for a concealment vest. I know of one shooter, Dave Jackson from Norfolk, VA, who has a real cool one...it's stiff, and doesn't look stupid, but he can't remember where he bought his. Those camera vests, like S&A's, look dumb and are not stiff enough. So if you know of any decent vests please respond, web addresses are desired. I know there will probably be some nice ones for sale at the Nationals, but I'm not going. Thanks. Bill
  16. SS, I am, by heart, a gamer....but there's not much you can get away with for IDPA. Here's a list of the things you can try: -wear baggy pants to help facilitate the reload with retention. I use the front left pocket of the pants, and when I step up to the line I make sure the pocket is wide open...I use semi-stiff BDU pants so this is easily accomplished. Another good retention method, provided you have a flat stomach, is to just stuff the mag in between your pants and shirt. <I've seen this done REAL fast> I noticed Rob L. uses his back left jean pocket for his retention reloads, but I think he could whoop a** by using his sock to retain his mag. -make sure you have a quick holster...Blade-Tech's are the fastest I've tried. I saved .2-.4 seconds per draw going to a Blade-Tech from a Wilson Practical/Tactical. -when using a concealment vest you can either sew lead weights into the front seam so when you push the vest back it'll reliably swing back, or you can sew a straightened out coat hanger into the front seam so the vest swings back well. I'm still looking for a decent vest, I hate those camera looking vests. -read the course design very literally...there's times you can charge the target and shoot it from point blank range. -as in ipsic, spend a lot of time analyzing when to do your reload, and time yourself to figure out if your slide-lock reload is faster or slower than your reload with retention....folks tend to gravitate towards the slide-lock reload, but it's not always the fastest for them -if you prefer the slide-lock reload analyze the course of fire to determine if you "need" to shoot a few extra shots to "make sure" you hit the target....hint, hint, nudge, nudge You didn't hear it from me. Bill
  17. I LOVE the few songs on the radio by Linkin Park, but hate buying a CD and finding out that the rest of the CD sucks. Do any of you own the CD? If so how is it? Bill
  18. Guys/Gals, I'm an IDPA shooter who's starting to shy away from IDPA and look more seriously at IPSC. As such I am planning on attending the Nationals next year and competing in Limited 10, but I'm a bit confused about a few things. First, how the hell do you get a slot to the Nationals? I've read bits and pieces about a club thing, and shooting an Area championship. I wasn't able to locate anything on the USPSA website...help? I assume that Lim 10 shooters compete in the Limited Nationals only, right? All the divisions and only a Limited and Unlimited Nationals kinda confuses me. Any other pertinent advice would be appreciated too. I'm up to speed on the possibility of the Nationals not being at PASA next year. Bill
  19. I went out and bought a pair of Sharks too (Nike's gonna wonder why there's this sudden rush in Shark sales!!), anyway you can get a new pair on footlocker.com for something like $32. Bill
  20. Julien, I hope I in no way offended you. Wow, tools to measure slide velocity, you're really getting into this...what's your ultimate plan/goal with this endeavor? Bill
  21. Julien, I think you're on the right track, but your method doesn't take into account the weight of the slide. The momentum of the bullet is countered by -the spring rate -the acceleration of the slide -and other stuff (like the friction between the slide/frame fit etc) You can forget about the last (friction, etc) and get a pretty close answer. Geez, I'm having flashbacks of engineering school (scary stuff). Bill
  22. 50 posts it is....my wife thought it was hilarious when I explained the whole hunter/gatherer thing to her. I had to explain it all because I was tickled that I was now a hunter and she didn't have a clue what I was talking about...funny stuff. Bill
  23. Keith, Yeah, you read the rules right...additionally under the "NON-INCLUSIVE list of EXCLUDED modifications:" you will note: "Extended oversize magazine release buttons". The ambi button could fall under that exclusion. You just gotta be careful because there's so many IDPAers who hate IPSC and will try to get you DQ'd if you appear to be too gamey, etc. Bill
  24. Hey guys (and gals), I just wanted to let you know that I've done TT's bead exercise (listed at the beginning of this thread) for the past 6 mornings for a scant 2-4 minutes per morning and have noticed a huge difference in my eye's ability to quickly shift focus. I've incorporated it into my daily regime and can't imagine how quick my eyes will be after a month or two of this exercise. Great exercise for limited shooters. Bill
