Just an FYI, I went straight to SJC and asked about this and they do not reccomend using a .22 conversion kit with any of thier open guns. Not only is it not gauranteed to work, you can get a wear pattern that might cause you some issues when switching back to the 9mm upper. Guess I just need to stick with my Mark III for now!
Or build a dedicated 22 pistol.

Bobby - Nice blaster. Polish that bad boy up for a little bling when it goes in for chrome. Not near as bright as the Frank Garcia guns, but somewhere in there.

Don't forget Matt's book. It's a great intro to our sport with many good basic dry fire drills/techniques. Add in Steve's and both of Saul's book for a great starting package. Add videos and then some of the mental game books and you'll be set.

I can see making it through this shooting year so yeah...contingency plans are going in to motion.

Where to begin....
As for light bullets, they DO have a place in 3-Gun. One of the best rifle shooters/3-Gun shooters is Benny Hill of Triangle Shooting Sports and he is well known to use 52gr.'s in a 1:12 barrel screamin' and they will knock down steel at distance. Taran Butler is also known to use them, however, goes heavy (as most do) when there are Larue targets or flashers at distance where you have to activate a flag.
IN GENERAL, 69's are great for 3-Gun and GENERALLY out of a 1:8 they are very happy. My 69gr. SMK load with 24.5-ish grains of Varget, WSR, NO BRASS PREP (it's 3-Gun not Highpower) shoots less than .5 MOA with a couple of .2's and .3's out of my 18" 1:8. That's a freak rifle for a couple of different reasons.
sshog8541 - If you have an AR with a 1:9 barrel use it 'til it's burned out and then go get a 1:8. I can strongly recommend the Oly Arms barrels (yep...really) and the barrels from Sabre Defence. JP also makes an awesome 1:8 barrel (it's what's on the middy pictured above).
As stated above though, ultimately it's going to be what shoots in your rifle. Don't rule out Hornady 75's, but in my experience with Hornady bullets, unless you are CRANKIN' them out of the tube, they drop like a rock. 69 and 77 SMK's will fly better and frankly, a 69 will do everything you need.

To the OP, there are always "rules" about what bullet will (or won't) spin in a given twist barrel. However, after a TON of rounds through AR's I'll say that while these 'rules' are good guides, in the end, you have to shoot the bullet and twist combo in your rifle. There are way too many variables to simply say something will or won't work simply based on bullet weight and barrel twist rate.
Heck...the upper I just sold to 'maineshootah' will shoot 52's all the way up to 77's and it's a 1:9. Remember too that for 3-Gun you don't need a sub-MOA rifle. Frankly a 2 MOA rifle will generally work for most 3G/MG matches.

18" 1:8 huh?

So...off of this rule, can someone alleviate my stress now. Shooter, not on a stage, is walking around with his crap and drops his gun. RO comes over, clears it, bags it. Is THAT a DQ? Didn't used to be but now I'm concerned.

I'm testing between my Rolling Thunder and the Surefire. The Surefire on my 308 bolt rifle is ridiculously soft.
Surefire and a PRI handguard. Seems like I've seen that setup before (i.e. Taran's rifle)
.

Bobby....like this one:
Sorry....I love this rifle. One of these months I'll shoot it.

Talk it over with Beven Grams and I'm sure he'll get you all the info you could ever want/need.

Dillon and you'll only size it once.

G17 - Going to Ft. Hood. Well...hope you like Gary Owen and don't mind packin' your bags again. 1st Cav country out there.
Bobby - Yep. I definitely got lucky and will be marrying my best friend (although I'm PISSED at her this morning
).
Back to training:
Monday - Did my "Body by Hagan" Weight training and it was awesome. Jason Hagan is my trainer and has a very dynamic way of doing his training. Definitely making me stronger and faster. Now, if I could lay off the mexican food I haven't had in 4+ years, I'd actually get a little skinny.
Tuesday - Cardio day. I love the elliptical and it was trying to kick my butt today.
Wednesday - Rest day
Re-instituted my dry fire routine. About 30-40 minutes per night working on the fundamentals. It's been really nice as it's really bringing me back to my gun and I'm paying a lot more attention to gun presentations and calling my shots. We've got a Glock match and 3-Gun match this weekend and so we'll see how that goes. I'm really excited for both and looking for simply smooth and consistent performances. I'm starting to lock in to my mental program and am looking to test it out at the range.
Affirmation and key points (ala Bassham) are coming soon.

We had similar conditions at our 1k match last month and EVERYONE was having abnormal pressure problems. Source was derived to be the moisture and wet rifles & rounds getting in to the chamber and since fluids do not compress, equated to severe pressure spikes.

You're awesome Sharyn!

Since I don't a 550, is the primer seating depth adjustable like on a 1050?
Maybe it's just a function of a tweak to that run or those cases versus the others. I'm reaching but it's worth a shot.

The only weird pockets I've found were with PMC, but after fixing my seating depth issue on the RL1050, all is well.

I'm at 44.7 grains of Varget, so I'm under that 45 number. However even at 45.3, there were no hard extractions, no extractor marks or any other signs of pressure.
Thanks for the heads up though.
