  1. I just picked up a FN Hi Power which I ordered from AIM Surplus. When I was cleaning it up I noticed the barrel was threaded on the inside at the muzzle end and there was a plug screwed down the barrel. the plug has a .22 hole in the center and looks like it could be removed with an allen key. I didn't take the barrel out but the barrel appears to have had some grinding done to it and I am sure the locking lugs have been removed. This has to be a mod to make it fire blanks. It was imported by Mach1 who says they are Israeli police/correction officer turn ins. Could this have used at a correction or detention facility??
  2. Does anyone know if the "Six" series front sights share the same shape as the SP101 sights?? I shoot mostly 38spls in my 4" Speed Six and wish to lower the POI with a taller front sight. Hoping Ruger used a similar sight shape on the SP101 so I might find some that would work off the current market. Probably I will wind up making something.

    SR45

After getting my SR40c I have been wanting one but was not aware of a lack of extra magazines.
  4. You did fine on this purchase! The price is good - not low but not too high for this gun which WILL appreciate in value over time. In fact you could get more than you paid for it right now on GunBroker. The trigger is heaver than a S&W but with some work can be truned into a great trigger and this gun would be a fine choice for things like IDPA. I have 2 speed six revolvers that I use for IDPA along with my S&W revolvers and love them dearly. My Speed Six revolvers are the same as your Service Six except are more rounded. Bottom line is while the triggers are not quite as nice as those found on a S&W K frame (but can be close with a good trigger job) they are better built and are currently collector items
  5. As time passes I believe there will be an increasing amount of accessories and aftermarket parts for the PPQ. Those who have one seem to be quite devoted to it and I can't recall seeing anyone speaking ill of them, I have pretty much settled on the XDM for USPSA simply because at this point in time it is more customizable and is more of what I want straight out of the box. Because it is so unique and spoken so highly spoken of I plan to get a PPQ M2 4" in 9mm and keep it stock except maybe a fiber front sight sometime in the near future.
  6. Found it!! http://gearup.springfield-armory.com/Gearup.asp
  7. Is Springfield currently running the "Gear Up" promotion where you can get 3 mags free by mail with a new XDM purchase? I read somewhere they were but can't seem to find confirmation of that.
  8. I have a Glock G20 will I will soom sell and will use the procedes to buy either the XDM or the PPQ M2. It's main use would be for USPSA limited and other stuff like IDPA and Steel challenge. I like both of them but would like some opinions as to which would be better for USPSA. I wish I could rent both for comparison but where I live that is not an option. I like the Walther because it is unique and have heard nothing but good things about the trigger but the Springfield has better sights, higher capacity and is more customizable plus has a proved track record. But I have read about people liking the Walther so well they have sold their Springfields. On the other hand......

  10. In case anyone else is looking Midway just received a shipment.
  11. Are there any Sear Housing Blocks for M&P 40 and 9L to be had anywhere?? Looked all the usual places like Brownells, Midway USA and Speed Shooters but none in stock.
  12. It is one of the oldest and used to be one of the most common pistol powders around. It was the first powder I used when I began reloading in 1980. A very versatile and beloved powder although dirty. A flake powder slower than Bullseye but faster than Blue Dot. I have not been able to get any for about a year now but see it sometimes on Gunbot where it sells out in about 15 min. One of my favorite 9MM loads is 4.0 grains of it under a 147gr Barry's Plated bullet.
  13. For what it is worth I just put a Burris FastFire II on my M&P 40 with the intent of building a open gun and here are my initial Impressions; Like anything there is a definate learning curve! At first I was having a problem finding the dot but after a couple of hours of dryfire I began to get the hang of it. I used my shot timer set to random start with a par time of 3 seconds the idea being not to beat the timer but to have a "time frame" to work within. As I progressed I worked on form and smoothness of draw from a Kydex holster then even though I was on the target I would wait for the par beep to break the shot so as to let the muscle memory sink in. At the range I discovered the next part of the curve was going to be recoil management - when you break the shot the dot disappears!! To help with this I just did a bunch of slow 2 shot pairs using the shot timer at random start with no par time. My goal was just to relax and have fun watching the dot bounce and observing what was going on. Eventually I got the flow of what was going on and began to manage the dot pretty well - not fast but making hits and controlling more consecutive shots. My times were slower than usual but I am new to this and I feel that is to be expected at first. What I found amazing when I picked up my M&P 9L I was shooting better than I had ever shot before!! Managed to do a couple of 10yard Bill Drills with the 9L in sub 3.5 second times. Normally on a really good day I might do that in less than 4.5 sceonds! Maybe I'll never be able to compete well in open classes with this gun when I get it finished but I am certain it will help me to shoot better with my stock M&P 9L.
  14. If I t were a 9mm gun I probably would not give it a second thought. I tend to stick with 147gr loads which are pretty mild but when it comes to something I will use for major PF loads and was not ported from the factory it is much more of a consideration.
  15. I am in the process of building a M&P 40 (standard size) open gun. So far I have mounted a Burris FastFire II and am getting used to it. Next I want to improve the recoil impulse with some type of porting. I have seen some videos including Jerry Miculek's video and am leaning toward Magna Porting. But I like the idea of the Storm Lake Drop-in Barrel in that no modification of the slide is necessary - I worry the slide cuts might make a 40 S&W slide more prone to cracking. Plus I could return the gun to stock if I wished. Would the SL barrel's style of porting tend to obscure my view the the optic as it vents the smoke and gases upward? I'd like to hear from some of you who have used these methods as to their ups and downs.
  16. By "standard" frame do you mean frames without a rail?
  17. I'm getting ready to order a Blade-Tech OWB drop offset paddle holster for my Witness but am not sure which one to select in the "Gun Model" box on the Blade-Tech website. My gun is a Large frame Witness that started life as a .45 to which I installed a .40 S&W "longslide" upper, extended safety and Henning's flat trigger. The choices are; Combat, Force pro, Limited, Limited Custom, Limited Custom II, Stock II or Witness Elite Match. I think the last one is what I need as my gun looks like the pictures of Elite Matchs I have seen but am not sure what I need to order. I have no accessory rail.
  18. OK I found it! CORE = Optics ready with co-witness iron sights Very cool!!
  19. This one?? http://www.midwayusa.com/product/529990/safariland-568-custom-fit-belt-and-paddle-holster-right-hand-glock-17-22-20-21-38-hk-usp9-usp40-usp45-ruger-p-89-sig-sauer-220-226-composite-black I ordered the 5197-819-411 from http://www.holsters.com and it seems to work well(haven't used it in the wild yet) for my 5" CORE model. Also includes an extra mag caddy, for ~$30 shipped it's hard to beat but is belt slide. They do have models with Paddle attachments, just not on sale. What gun is being referenced here? I have never heard the term CORE model - is it a type of M&P??
  20. This one?? http://www.midwayusa.com/product/529990/safariland-568-custom-fit-belt-and-paddle-holster-right-hand-glock-17-22-20-21-38-hk-usp9-usp40-usp45-ruger-p-89-sig-sauer-220-226-composite-black
  21. I need Kyex holster suggestions for my M&P 9L. Currently I am using a Uncle Mike's G20 paddle holster which I modified slightly so it didn't hit the mag release button. I really like this holster with my standard M&P 40 and the 9L but want a longer holster that will protect my Novak FO front sight. I am currently thinking about getting another one o these and adding a Kydex extension or possibly getting a Talon Tactical Kydex holster. The T.T. would not be a paddle and I like the paddle holsters because I can place them without regards as to my belt loops.
  22. The front sight on my Conversion slide went AWOL at a match a couple of weeks ago. It was a Dawson Precision fiber for which I ordered a replacement on 5-20 and the Post Office appears to have lost. I have the original sight but not the screw. Does anyone know the specs of the screw so I might be able to find one locally?? I would like to use it at a match on Saturday but will probably have to use my M&P.
  23. I got one of Henning's flat triggers and all I had to do was remove the DA disconnector. There was slight amount of fitting needed as even with the pre-travel adjustment all the way in the trigger was not comming far enough forward for reliable reset. I removed a little material from the face of the pre-travel screw and it now resets perfectly. This trigger gives the gun a completely different feel that I really like (feels like a different gun!) with almost no overtravel. Henning had the trigger in the mail within a few minutes of my order so all of this worked out well. I will eventually convert my RIA MAPP (tanfoglio clone) but use a Cajun Gun Works trigger to keep the cost down and the MAPP being a small frame will feel better with a trgger which is not as wide as Henning's trigger.
  24. On the Mauser I am going for "semi-period correct" for the post WWII/cold war era. I am using an Accumounts LSR side mount which is designed for the Masuser and their reproduction PE scope ($219 shipped with the mount). http://www.ebay.com/itm/Soviet-Russian-Mosin-nagant-91-30-PE-PEM-sniper-scope-and-mount-combo-/310649116147?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item48542155f3#ht_1743wt_665 I don't shoot the Mauser iron sights well so I wanted a scope to help me but didn't want to make it into what I consider a "sporterized" rifle. The rifle's former owner had a angled bolt handle installed and with this configuration I should be able to use stripper clips and the open sights at close distances with the scope zeroed at 200 yards. This is an M48 (milled) as opposed to a M48A (stamped) so I don't expect super accuracy but I think the milled receiver is a decent choice for a scope. Anyway my shooting is mainly within 300 yards and I have a Mosin which is not original but is a sniper replica that works well on 10" steel plates at these distances and that works for me. While this setup is not historically accurate I feel it is representative of the equipment of the era without costing a fortune. I have been griped at by people on some of the military surplus forums as this rifle was purchased in unissued condition and it's former owner put about 200 rounds thru it. The mount I have chosen will detract from it's collector value but I don't buy guns to sell nor do I have safe queens - guns are to be shot and enjoyed. As for it's monitary value to collector it will drop BUT I think if it works out well the "coolness" factor will increase it's market value.
  25. Actually I will probably delay the M48 sniper build I have been working on and finish this gun. I am using it more and more in USPSA and would like to have it where I want it in the next few weeks. It still has a problem with occaisional premature slide lock I need to work on too but that should be relatively simple. Possibly as simple as changing the style of bullit I am using in it. As long as I have about $200.00 on my card at all times I will be able to score 5k small pistol primers sometime over the next couple of months. I don't look for the reloading component situation to improve much in the near future and it may get worse but components are available at reasonable prices IF you have your butt near a chair when the music stops. Last week I was able to get 5k of small rifle primers for $189.00 shipped - 12 minutes after they were released they were sold out. I use a couple of programs that scan various vendors and alert me when stuff is released for sale. Fortunately I work at a job where I can act when the opportunity presents it's self and even then you've got to be quick.
