  1. I use a 15lb recoil spring for 9 major. A 14 lb spring for minor. I think it depends on the barrel, the comp, the type of slide , and the type of powder you use. The lighter the slide the lighter the spring. The longer the comp the lighter the spring and so forth. My open Glock is a built on a Glock 17. So my slide is lighter than a Glock 34. Bottom line is you need to buy many different spring weights and see what works. Craig
  2. Green Locktite 620 from brownells
  3. Do you shoot the Edge a lot more than the Glock or about the same? Are you more comfortable with the Edge than the Glock?
  4. I love my Edge as well, just feels solid vs my glock Have you done a comparison test to see if your faster with the STI than the Glock? Do you have access to a plate rack? If you do, shoot both and see if your faster with the STI. If you don't have a plate rack maybe you can use something else. I'm curious to see if there's a big difference between the two with a side by side comparison.
  5. In open division it is all about raw speed. A half a second difference per stage in steel or uspsa will win or loose the match. I would go with the comp. Craig
  6. I think I will stick with my Glocks. I have fun shooting it and ot runs 100% of the time. Craig
  7. That would be great to compare them. I have family visiting this weekend. Maybe we could meet at Van Meter a week from Sunday? Craig
  8. The only reason I would buy the gun is for the Big Dawg Steel match, and major is not much of a beneifit except for a couple of stages. For everything else I shoot production division. I might have to think about it for a while. Thanks for the info Skip, Craig
  9. Everyone that beat me was shooting an STI.
  10. Trying to improve. Better gun higher score?
  11. I just shot the Big dawg steel match and I did ok. In limited division I was 18th out of 78. Better than I did last year. I used my Glock 35 again this year. I really enjoy shooting it. My question is how much better do you think I could do if I bought a STI? Could I expect my score to dramatically improve? I would love to be in the top 5. What do you guys think? Craig
  12. Well its been a year since my last post. Its been a year of ups and downs. Ive won some and lost some. For the most part I have done well. Or I should say to my level of skill. Which I think is all that matters. I keep improving and having fun. The highlight of the year has to be a zombie match that I won at a local range. I would have to say that the quality of shooters there were sub par but it was still fun to win non the less. I plan on shooting the big dawg steel match, the Iowa sectional, and the ruger rimfire match this year. Ive also shot some IDPA this year which is a first for me and I have done surprisingly well. I think that I have finished in the top five in everyone Ive shot which im very happy with.
  13. O.K. I need some help. I'm trying to deciede what load to take to the Big Dawg Steel match. Last year I had a problem with the plates not falling on a few stages. I was shooting a pf of 140ish. What is your favorite 9mm load?
  14. Anybody have any experience with 22lr conversion kits on a open glcok pistol with a carver mount? Does the spent cases get ejected ok? Craig
  15. I'm new to open and I have not tried a lot of powders, but so far I really like 8grs HS-6 125gr bullet. Give it a try. Craig
  16. Anybody have any experience with an STI frame that that you can buy from Midwayusa? Can I put my Kimber SS (is a 40 S&W) upper on it? Is it something I can do or would I need a gunsmith?
  17. I am no expert on open Glock guns, so take this with a grain of salt. I have been having the same trouble with my open Glock gun. The empty cases are hitting the bottom of my cmore scope and are getting deflected back into the slide. So to try and fix this problem I think the cases need to be extracted sideways. The two mechanisms to extract the empty cases are the ejector and the extractor. The only thing you can do with the extractor is to put a stronger spring in. To throw the cases with more force. This does little in the direction the cases are being thrown The ejector deciedes what direction the cases are being thrown depending on were it hits the back of the case. My stock 9mm ejector is slightly bent inwards. Which will hit the case more in the middle causing the empty case to be ejected upwards. I have installed a 40 ejector which is a straight ejector. I am hoping that this will cause the cases to be ejected more sideways instead of upwards. I plan on shooting my open Glock tomorrow at a steel match. I hope this works. What do you guy think? I hope it works. I will let you know tomorrow. Craig
  18. How much of the ejection port have you lowered? Glock guns are designed to eject upwards. If you look at the ejection port does it still have some of the angled portion of the ejection port? If it does then the brass maybe getting ejected upwards rather then out the side. When it does this it will hit the bottom of the scope mount and get caught in the slide. You may need to lower the ejection port. Hope this helps. Craig
  19. I was very disappointed in my proformance in the big Dawg steel match. I placed 22 out of 65. About the same as last year. All my practicing for nothing? I guess I need to practice harder.
  20. Tryed to shoot my open gun at Ankenys steel match today. It was an epic fail. My draw was slow. I couldn't find the dot. I was rasing the gun to high. Gun jambed a few times. I had a mag fall out. I'm not ready for open division. I think I will shoot my production rig at the Big Dawg Steel Match. Atleast, I know before I got there.
  21. Thanks guys, I will continue to do add to this thread as long as people want me to. Great thread! Keep them coming!
  22. Shot the Osceola production match today. 6th place overall. I think there was about 40 people shooting. Not to bad. I had a lot of fun. Mike C. shot really well. Wow he had some good scores!
