  1. How about jPractiscore assuming 2 deciaml places and not entering the decimal place at all. It would require entering the 20 seconds as 2000, but I thibk it would be less error prone than entering the decimal. Maybe make it an option.

    I like this idea.

  2. We shot a Time Plus match yesterday. I had set up the match with 6 stages but we did not get to shoot the 6th stage. When I went to view results they were shown in the shooter order for the 6th stage. After I deleted the 6th stage they came up correct execpt the stage rankings were listed in alphabetical order for every stage. This is on a Android platform, version 1.0.14.

Any ideas how to correct the stage rankings?

Could you please email me your exported match *.psc file? I'll take a look.

    Just sent to support@practiscore.com

    Thanks,

  4. I only have one feature request of the software, and that is that the current android version doesn't seem to warn you you are leaving the scoring screen without entering a time. My volunteer types were getting all sorts of not happy about that and one shooter got screwed by a scorekeeper not paying attention. There were some other issues, but as far as I cna tell they are bugs, since the documentation implies they should behave differently than they do.

Until we get that feature, this can be largely addressed by adopting the practice of when you call out the next shooter, bring him up on the system and then go directly into the time entry panel. If there are penalties during the stage, the combination of the RO and the scorekeeper will have to remember those, but having the "enter time" screen already up will almost certainly guarantee you'll get a time entered.

The ".14" version seems to have this fixed.

  5. +1 for the 870. Not that there is anything wrong with the others, but the 870 is a shotgun I could operate in my sleep, and there are plenty of accesories and technical support.

+2. I run an 870 with 21' barrel w/ extended choke tube and +4 mag tube. BTW shotgun stages are won / lost with reloading and accuracy (that avoides extra reloads). What ever you get practice reloads (recommend w/ dummy shells).

  6. ....

What is the most valuable shooting lesson that you have learned, here or anywhere?

    ....

Safety is RULE #1. - Treat the Gun Ias if it is Always Loaded until YOU have cleared it. When loaded Keep Your Finger Off The Trigger Until Your Sights Are On The Target!

  7. It's quite possible the docs are a bit behind. That's my area, and I'm permanently swamped.

WRT IDPA feedback from Rob - thanks. I've sent that feedback to Devin, Eugene sees it here, and they can sort out between them changes to the output.

SSI input... my only direct experience is indirect, now that I read back on it, I guess it was export to CSV and then some slight mods to column headers to align with PractiScore input needs.

Thanks for the feedback. I hope my comments don't imply any displeasure with Practiscore, on the whole I, as the MD and the local shooters are happy to have moved from paper to electronic scoring and Practicsore allowed that to happen. My comments just reflect a desire to put icing on the cake! :-)

  8. Rob,

Thanks for the kind words - glad it worked well.

Eugene and Devin can comment more precisely on the timing for the technical changes. I'm the "head" but I defer to their personal schedules on development issues and I do not pressure them, other than to prioritize what work they can do on the system. It's all part time for the 4 of us working on it. Me, Eugene, Devin, Bryan (web), and Dave (web).

    On your specific questions/requests:

Android IDPA support is being worked on at this very instance. It will come, but Eugene who is working the Android version now has just come on to the squad. I'm very impressed with his skills, and know it will come out solid - but he's got a learning curve, so it will come when it comes. But I'd expect it to be pretty soon.

Spreadsheet export... I'd be interested in suggestions as to what to export. I mean we can expose the JSON underbelly with ALL information.

Or simply put the stage scores out in a CSV form. Ideas welcome.

I'm currently beta testing online registration system - well if beta testing means running HaH multigun, and 680 registrations so far Area 1 championship.

Its working well for me and we will be making public access sometime early in 2013. It also has slick squadding, and the match management features are

at our facility this year. The only thing keeping me sane as I do Practiscore, my real job, Area 1, HaH, regular USPSA matches, 3 steel matches a week, and prep to do 2013 back to back Nationals at our facility. Managing area 1 really is pretty simple with it, a few minutes a day to keep up with changes.

Shoot N Score, a perfectly fine system, is in use by a number of clubs and they have a direct export to PractiScore.

My development of a PractiScore branded system doesn't reflect anything on their system other than I needed specific things to manage the large matches I run, so I had one of my guys whip something up.

I'm tired, long day - so I'm not following the procedurals by stage question. I'll look at it again tomorrow when I'm rested, but if you have time clarify for me I'd appreciate it. Its probably obvious, and I'm just dense at 11:30 tonight. (-:

Thanks again, and I hope Santa is good to you!

    Ken N.

    Thanks for the reply.

The most common way IDPA scores for major matches are displyed is total score, total number of # points, total #FTN, # HNT, #PE and then total score foe each stage noting the total points for that stage. (example: http://www.midtnshooters.com/Results%20-%202012%20Tennessee%20State%20IDPA%20%20Championships.pdf) Clubs that have not purcashed the IDPA scoring software from Beach Bunny use a wide range of Excel spreadsheets that mimic in some form the Beach Bunny software output.

If we could see the results in a manner similar to the Beach Bunny output (i.e., total score / total points / total PE / total FTN / total HNT) with each stage score noting points down on that stage that would be great. To date this has been the only real complaint on the way Practiscore shows Time Plus scoring. Though everyone loves the way Practiscore shows stage rankings! :-)

For export to a CSV, for each shooter it would be great to get stage #, raw time, points down, HTN, PE, FTN, that would be useful but its not a critical issue.

Relatieve to SSI, I'll go look at that again. I don't reacall a direct export to Practiscore. I have used the export to CSV feature but then I've had to post process the spreadsheet for Practiscore import.

Thanks again for all the work and a great product.

  9. I'm the MD at a small-ish shooing club in North Alabama and run a monthly IDPA match and outlaw 3-gun (more USPSA than anthing else). We just got two Nexus 7 tablets to run Practioscore and I use my Razr phone as a hotspot for networking. We've use Practiscore once for an IDPA match and it was great sucess! :-) Thanks for all the hard work to produce and maintain the sofware.

I sent Santa my wish list, I hope he reads it but I'll put it here just incase he reads this first:

    - IDPA support for Android OS w/ results that show the IDPA penelities (HTN, FTN, PE, FTDR, points down) independently per stage and in summay -- not just a roll up of penelity times as well as per stage placement overall in combined and Placement in Division in Divison results.

    - Ability to export to a spreadsheet. We have a lot of geeks that like to do analysis of their scores.

    - An online regestration utility on the Practiscore page that proiduces a easy to download registration list directly in to the local device

Really the only thing I feel is really needed is showing penelities independently per stage - that is the most requested change by the local shooters.

    Thanks again for producing Practiscore,

    Rob Tompkins

  10. I am lucky enough to know a great SS shooter who is selling me a Springfield Loaded in 9mm and he will be doing a bit of work to it for me. I have until Sunday night to change some parts hes ordering and just looking for some opinions on my set up.

    STI Tactical Adjustable Sight

Brazos Micro Dot FO front sight

S&A Slim Magwell Blended into frame

    VZ Operator II slim grips

Wilson Skeleton Match Trigger set @ 3lbs

    Wolf springs

As of right now I am not ordering a mag release because I want to keep it IDPA legal and i dont think 1/16" more would be worth the %. I would, however be interested in one that is IDPA legal but is also drilled and tapped so I could add the button for SS and remove it for ESP. I would really want one that is checkered with out the button installed...Is any one doing this?

What 10 round mags are best?

    What base pads are best?

Do the 10 rd mags with base pads stick out of the bottom very far? Pics please?

Any opinions on my set up?

Both Tripp and Wilson 10 rnd 9mm mags work great. Both fit the box and wiht a mag well are fairly flush. The Cobra System mags will give you a bit more room in the box, useful if you have very tall sights..

Have you tried a 1911 with slim grips? I did not fined them all that great so if you haven't tried them you might want to.

  11. We have a guy that shoots down loaded 40 in ESP / SSP with a G35. He does well with it. Likes the bigger holes AND bullets are 20%-25% heavyer so min PF velocity is that much slower. If you reload, 40 minor can be a real gamer load. :goof:

For one gun to shoot both games you have to make some kind of compromoise. A 9mm "Eagle" is no compromise gun in IDPA but has some big scoring compromises in USPSA. A 40 cal "Eagle" in IDPA forces you to reload for minor PF but otherwise is a no compromise IDPA gun and it will have fewer / less compromises in USPSA.

You can use the 9mm minor PF handicap in USPSA as a forcing function to get better hits which will also pay off in IDPA. I've been known to shoot SS Minor for that reason.

So, where do you want to make the compromises?

Which every way you go, using the same gun / platform in both games is better than switch back and forth. You'll improve more, faster IMHO.

  12. I have a question about IDPA rules. Can you switch from one type of ammo to another during a match / stage? For example, suppose you're shooting SSR... Can you fill the cylinder to start with wadcutters to get nice clean holes and then fill your speedloaders with round nose to speed up reloads? Also, can you swtich to using +P or magnum loads on any stage where there is knockdown steel if you feel that the 105pf loads might not drop the steel easily or fast enough? I don't recall ever seeing anything in the rule book, but I'm not sure if this violates the "spirit of the match".

    Thanks in advance.

Yes legal and I've done the very thing you mentioned. Not an issue if you can manage the two types of ammo.

  13. Interesting discussion. At a local USPSA match the MD recently went from Palms to NST's w/ PS. Works much better, at least from the stand point of the shooter. Training is not as big a deal as it seems, most pick it up quick and are willing to ask questions if needed. Yes we do have few who don't like to help score but they would be that way with paper as well.

I'm also the MD at a local IDPA match and Outlaw 3-gun. We're still using paper but I'm looking very hard at moving the matches to PS. It may or may not save me time considering the registration work load but I'll be able to get scores out MUCH sooner. I'm still in the research mode but leaning towards getting a couple of the new GN7's and portable WiFi router. I should be able to sync my phone right after I sync the tablets then post to the Practiscore page. Scores are out before I leave the range!

Most of the time we have <30 shooters for IDPA and <15 for 3-gun so not much need for more than two squads. It should be a pretty simple process over all.

... After the match, I sync to my iPad, and then post the results to Practiscore, about 5 minutes after the match ends. The only reason the iPad is necessary is because you can't upload scores to Practiscore.com from an Android device yet.

With the exception of one or two possible Luddites, NO ONE wants to go back to paper. A few people have *claimed* that they won't even shoot the match if they have to go back to scoring on paper (and yeah, you're right. There's always the small subset that do most of the RO-ing, most of the scoring, and most of the pasting)....

Humm... I had not seen the coment about not being able to upload to Parctisore from Androids. I guess I can just e-mail scores.

Good to hear such positive response to electronic scoring.

  15. .... Besides the classifieds here does anyone know where I should be keeping a lookout, besides gunbroker.com and gunsamerica?

USPSA has a classifieds listing but much of what I've seen there is a repeat of stuff here.

  16. Since you're on a budget, I would check the classifieds and buy used. There are a ton of great deals that pop up on this forum, just keep your eyes open.

This! And take the savings, get a press and start reloading. You will be able to shoot more for the same $$$ and you will be able to tune the ammo to your gun for the feel you want.
