  1. I'm testing this out with one of our local IDPA matches and I have a few questions:

    1. As the MD (person who set up the match) can I add shooters without setting them up with an account? i suspect i'll get a lot of walk-ons so I'll have name and e-mail but I don't want to spend the time setting up an account for them.

    2. Is there a way for shooters to indicate if they are a certified RO/SO? At our local matches the squads run themselves and I need to make sure there are SO's on each squad.

    Thanks,

  2. I will get my brand-new LNL-AP on Monday if the big brown toy-truck is running

on time. I found the shell plates almost impossible to find across a dozen

vendors on the net but did fially nail the 9mm and 45 plates down.

    ...

The dies I gave-up on after the same search and ordered Dillion Dies from Brian Enos as a small note of appreciation for this awesome site he runs.

    ...

The LNL will use any standrad dies. I own and use several sets of Lee dies and just started using a set of Redding "Pro" dies in 45 ACP. I really like the Redding dies but the Lee dies have been very servicable.

  3. Some spare case retainer springs can be usefully but not necessary.

If you seat and crimp at the same time on the last station you can get away with out the PTX. An option is the MK-1 eyeball to check powder charges. Its really hard to double charge a case (you have to double stroke the press to do that) and unless you run out of powder, the case will get a charge. I have the powder check die and stopped using it because of the time to adjust / readjust as you change powders or calibers. The LNL is open enough that with a good work light close by you can easily see into the case before you add a bullet.

I've enjoyed using my LNL, I think you will too.

  4. a ) 45 ACP for SSTK and CDP (same PF, no changes from one to the other, major scoring)

b ) 40 S&W for SSTK and ESP (differnt ammo loadings and different recoil, depending on mags, may have capacity issues for ESP)

c ) 9mm for SSTK and ESP (same PF, minor scoring)

I would say 45 ACP but CDP is a lonely division compared to ESP in most (but not all) places so not as much fun. 40 S&W is better suited to USPSA and 9mm is better suited to IDPA. Which game do you play the most? If USPSA go 40 S&W and compromise for ESP. If IDPA go 9mm and focus hard on hits in USPSA.

  5. There is a lot to be said for focusing on one platform and getting on top of the "learning curve" of the gun so that it is a natural extension of you. Then you can really focus on shooting the stage. This is the old saying along the lines of "beware of the man with one gun - he knows how to use it". I can see where having a back up gun can be useful if you shoot many big matches and have a big investment in travel costs. It would suck to spend several $100's to go to a match then have your gun fail and not finish the match.

However, I have tended to change platforms every 6-12 months to keep things fresh and interesting, so... But after about 12 months with a platform, I do feel very comfortable with it and can start taking advantage is its capabilities. YMMV

I’m giving very serious thought to standardizing on a single gun / platform but I shoot a both IDPA and USPSA in equal amounts so it’s a bit more challenging.

One advantage is the 1911 and 2011 can have very similar manual of arms (if set up the same) which will help transitions from one to the other. Just remember stage planning is very different so consider that as well.

If you do decide to offer for sale, send me a PM, I might be interested.

  6. Had one for a while, bought it used. At the the time it was too heavy for IDPA with some mods (recently the rules changed, now its legal). I didn't like the screw on mag well, seemed cheap to me. I'm not a fan of the two peice guide rod, just another thing to potentially fail. Checkering was very, very sharp and not comfortable. I have to shift my grip for reloads so it was not a nice thing for me. It was accurate and ran fine, my issues are really just minor things.

IMHO, for the same amount of money there are a lot of other options to look at, some you might like better. Shop around.

  7. I wonder how long it took to shoot the very first challenge. Securing the weapon, going out there to measure the distance from the center of the target, getting back behind cover, and then calling up the next shooter.

I was thinking that as well, maybe they had a bunker down range and someone ran out between shooters to measure.

Based on their introductions, some of them did not do as well as I expected on the first challange.

  8. I have and still do ~30% of the time use both 1st person and 3rd person video. 1st person helps with grip, target-to-target transitions, and other gun focused aspects. 3rd person helps with stance, movment, presentaiton, other "big" motions. Not that I'm a good example (I'm not), my Vimeo page (link in signature) has some blended / synched videos that uses both.

  9. Will you shoot other games as well? A G24 can only run in USPSA but a G35 can do both USPSA and IDPA. I have run G24 in USPSA and an M&P in IDPA SSP. I like the M&P ergos much better but both are great and reliable guns. I sold the G24 because for me it was a one trick pony. I still have a G35 set up to run both USPSA Limited and IDPA ESP. It’s a reasonable compromise but I would prefer to have it as an M&P. Right now I’m shooting a 1911 in SSTK / CDP, until at least until the SSTK Nats. After that, I might go back to Limited / ESP and see if I can learn to love the Glock or I just may sell it and suck up the loss to move to the M&P.

You can get a used G35 set up for Limited in the $600 - $800 range depending on mod's and mag's. I don't see many used M&P's set up for Limited up for sale.

  10. They shoot DMG (Defensive Multi-gun) using IDPA targets here in Huntsville.

I've been running the Huntsville 3-gun match the last few months. We have moved away from IDPA DMG provisional rules and now run an outlaw style match. The participants had no love for the DMG rules.

We use slightly modified USPSA 3-gun equipment rules / divisions, IDPA targets and scoring, and hybrid COF's / shooting rules. No fault lines but we're not really enforcing IDPA Cover rules. We don't worry about balancing the number of rounds between guns or the details of USPSA 3-gun COF rules. We created a pistol carbine division.

We found the DMG equipment rules really kill the fun. However, IDPA scoring is very easy to do and most of our shooters are heavy IDPA shooters so it’s a natural thing to do.

  11. Still have room on Fri? If so, I'll send my app this week.

    Rob

Folks, I am pretty sure we are full for Saturday.

There are a couple of reserved (sponsor) slots that have not yet been filled, and we will open them up to the first folks on the waiting list, when the time come.

We are wide open for Friday.

    Mark Kauder

    Match Director

Yeah, we have about 80 slots for Friday.

    Mark

Check is written and envelop stuffed, just need a stamp and its on its way.

  12. I run the local IDPA match. We've had problems with "poachers" getting in the way, slowing things down and then shooters who want their brass not being able to get it. We ask everyone to wait till after the match and completion of tear down to chase brass. Everyone seem happy with that policy.

  13. It is confusing, but as the no "recoil redcing devices" is appled to the SSG division which includes all three guns and rifles are explicitly permited 1in dia comps, I would think it only applies to shotguns and/or pistols.
