  1. ... And probably the most difficult lesson for me to remember, sometimes you need to just take a no-hit and move on. It’s better to accept that then spend all of my ammo and time on one single target.

This is very difficult to do! I know, I've wasted many rounds and much time chasing that hit.

When SO'ing shooters and they do that I keep thinking, take the miss and move on but when I'm shooting, nope the thought almost never occurs to me. :angry2:

  2. How easy is it for you? I seem to have some issues with the second set of shells hitting the bolt release area and handguard in front of it. Ill probably taper the handguard in that area soon. Its getting better, just looking to see if anyone has some quick tips.

Rereading you post, I'm assuming you're right handed you must be doing a strong hand reload?

All I can offer is more practice.

  3. First, i want to say thanks for all the work that goes into this product. It keeps getting better and better. However...

I just submitted a Mantis report for a bug with IDPA score reports in v.1.2.0. The col headings are misaligned.

Also, I see the feature request for IDPA RangeLog compatible CSV files is deferred to version 1.2.1. I hope that's not too far off, maybe, please, and thank you?

  4. How does the Mr. Bullet Feeder compare to the Hornady feeder?

Can't talk to the Mr. Bullet Feeder but the Hornady is LOUD and I mean REALLY LOUD! When adjusted it works well - if you don't have too many or too few in the hopper. It does not have an auto shutoff like the case feeder which would be ok execpt its so LOUD you can't just leave it run. I did wrap in some scrap foam and that helped a lot but its still a lot of noise.

  5. Not to give anything away but the questions about "X" being in "Y" section when it was in "Z" sections were very poorly done. If you said no, not in "Y" it was wrong but even post test answers did not have "X" in "Y". I guess I should have just known what they ment and not relied on what they wrote.

  6. As a local club MD, this makes me mad. :angry2:

IMHO if the MD is inforcing the new rules which are not effective until 1 Oct, they are in violation of the current rule book and basically running an outlaw match. These are not IDPA rules until 1 Oct. This is just as bad as runing a match on 1 Oct under the old rules. It is a good idea to discuss how things would be differnt under the new rules but to enforce them is wrong.

Flame me if you want, but I don't like it and I think it further's the impression IDPA officals just make up / pick and chose rules to enforce any old way they want.

I'm glad to hear you are looking at your gear to make sure you are legal come 1 Oct. If you want to do flat footed relaods to practice the new rules that's fine but its wrong to enforce that rule until 1 Oct.

    Flame away...

Not going to flame, no point in that. But IDPA HQ has already said that clubs may begin using the new rules early. Why not get used to something that is coming anyway. Otherwise it would be like dropping the speed limit from 55 on the highway to 40 with no warning or grace period.

Did not notice that instruction anywhere.

  8. I have the Nexus 7 and LOVE it. About twice that $100 walmart model though. ....

+1 and they are made by Asus.

For the battery I leave them oon the charger till leave for the range ~ 6:00am, they sit with screen off / wifi on till about 9:00 am when we do registration and then they are on and in use till 2:00 - 3:00 pm and thern the charge is ~25% or so. Once I did not fully charge the night before, cound have used a battery pack then but otherwise not any problems.

Hope the Walmat version gives you just as good battery life.

  9. Limited: mag in gun + 1 to get through a 32rnd stage (assume you get 16+ runds in your Lim mags) +1 to allow use of good reload points +1 in case you have to clear a mag problem or drop a mag during reloading = 3 on the belt. You can +1 for "just in case" for a total of 4 on the belt

Prod: mag in gun + 3 to get through a 32rnd stage +1 to allow use of good reload points +1 in case you have to clear a mag problem or drop a mag during reloading = 5 on the belt. You can +1 for "just in case" for a total of 6 on the belt

  10. Thanks, all..in particular about the Benchmark, non-cannister mil powder equivalents, and VV info - my notes had Benchmark down as won't meter well, which seems it's not the case, at all - more chances to find at least something.

Current list to be on the lookout for (noting I'll be loading progressive, this no Varget, etc.)

    TAC

    CFE223

    IMR 8208 XBR

    Benchmark
    BLC2

    Xterminator

    Win 748
    wc844 - same as H335
    wc846 = win 748 = BLC-2

    AA2230 (mainly for lighter/55gr?)

    VV N135, maybe other VVs

The AA load data has three 223 load sections: one for light bullets and slow twist, second is for heavy bullets and fast twist, and one for 5.56 pressure levels.

    http://www.accuratepowder.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/accurate_load_data_3.5.pdf

Good AA2230 for lots of bullets.

I just did some test loads with 2230 and it meters VERY well.

  11. As an IDPA SO (at least for now) and local MD I would say what I think I see in the picture is fine. Most people consder "lightening" cuts to be what you see on USPSA Limited guns, i.e., all the way through or VERY deep & VERY large recesses (like Gans does). Cuts that are on the order of one or maybe two mm would and should not be a concern, especially if they are in the areas and sizes typical of "factroy" serations.

Yes, this is and will remain a subjective area in IDPA rules but, I think most people can tell the diffence between materail removed to improve grip or for astetics vice reducing significant amounts of mass.

  12. if you have to look that close, the shooter gets the benefit of the doubt.

The new IDPA rulebook is already out.

Just read it. Refer to 11.2.8

    This.

If you see or feel favoritism is being applied in scoring, complain to the MD, if its the MD doing it complain to HQ.

  13. IMHO, letting the hammer fall while the cylinder is open can create a situation like letting the hammer fall while slide is not in battery. Sure when the cylinder is fully open its like the hammer falling on a empty chamber with no mag in the gun. However, there is a transition period before the cylinder is fully open where the condition is more like an out of battery slide

For the firing pin to hit the primer the cyl has to be closed.

I guess in theory there is a chance the firing pin could hit the primer without the cyl closed. It would be an area about 1/2 the width of the primer. And even then, that doesn't mean it will set off the round.

So I guess in theory I could pull my 6 lbs double action trigger that has a 1/2 of travel at that instant the cyl is about 1/16" from closing and then the firing pin might hit the primer. Which may or may not set off the primer and fire the round. And then would the bullet still go down the barrel?

The next anaology in terms of effect that I can think of is a VERY BADLY timed cylinder. Probably not going to blow the gun up but it could get kind of ugly.

  14. So that means if I were to play the IDPA game with the revolvers I have removed the little spring and plunger from the cylinder release so that it does not lock forward when the cylinder is open would it then be illegal. Cause if you tilt the gun back with the cylinder open and the cylinder latch slides back the hammer will fall. Would that be considered altering a safety device? Again this will only happen when the cylinder is open and the gun is incapable of firing. So If you have a semi auto and with the mag removed and you rack the slide and the hammers falls when you pull the tigger this would to me be illegal as the gun is capable of firing with out the mag, same as with the cylinder open on a revolver. HMMM

That makes me wonder. If your pistol comes from the factory with a saftey to keep you from firing with out a mag in the gun can that still be removed? And how is that safer than a revolver? My revolver can't shoot with the cyl open, but a pistol can shoot with out the mag.

Well, yes the new IDPA rules let you remove a mag disconnect.

IMHO, letting the hammer fall while the cylinder is open can create a situation like letting the hammer fall while slide is not in battery. Sure when the cylinder is fully open its like the hammer falling on a empty chamber with no mag in the gun. However, there is a transition period before the cylinder is fully open where the condition is more like an out of battery slide.

Personally, I don’t care if you mod your gun to do that or not. I’ve not heard of any reports where the hammer fell on an unlatched cylinder and fired a round off so I guess the probability is pretty low.
