  1. Thanks for all the input guys, but decided to go with a 2011 in 40 instead. wasn't as cheap, but I figured I could run limited, limited minor, and shoot enough 3 gun with it that I would be happy. Tied up all the gun money in that. Oh well....

If the 9mm is still available, I might like to make an offer. Can you PM me the details?

  2. Good thing. The sight cut on the Taurus is less than desirable. You would have had a hard time finding a good variety (if any) of sights.

It is a bit of an odd cut but Novak, Dawson, Williams and a few other's make fixed sights. Not all (but most popular) configurations are offered. Most people can find something they like. The only adj sights I've ever herad of are from Novak but are not listed on the website - have to call.

  3. I thought the last episode was pretty good. I see a bigger confrontation brewing between the group and the old man. I mean, someone has got to wonder how long was he going to wait before he told them he had the little girl in the barn while the rest of the group continued to look and get hurt/killed?

Previews for next season show just this and also imply open warfare between the living! This show is doing a good job making you feel the stress of the situation.

  4. Likely a repeat but...

For SSP/ESP you can: 1) get rid of any action discription and the Division difference is only based on what mods are done (mag wells, grip mods, other external mods, etc), or 2) make SSP for DAO and DA/SA guns alone and put all striker fired guns in ESP. I think "1" would be better then the SO dosen't have to worry about gun internals and only looks for external mods.

CDP should be opened up to .40 cal and larger. Yes there are some cartgrides that use a smaller bullet that can make major like .357 SIG, but most all other 9mm bullet based cartrides do not have a factory loading at major PF. 38 Super is close and may make it out of some guns. BTW - I load 9mm Major of USPSA Open Divison, it is high risk and not for the faint of heart or new reloader.

Leave the scoring as it is - its simple and easy to follow. Don't forget this is a GAME, not TRAINING.

  5. I shoot a bit of both and find good and bad shooter attitudes in both sports. I will say the hardcore dedicated IDPA shooters seem to be more open to trying USPSA and do not seem to be "rules snobs" but some of the USPSA shooters are "rules snobs" who show a lot of disdain for IDPA. Very few local USPSA shooters have even tried IDPA becase of that attitude -but some that have seem to have enjoyed it.

Good on you for being open minded ehough to give a shot (pun intended  ) and enjoying it.

Edit to add: To be clear we have a lot of local cross over shooters but many if not most started out as IDPA shooters as far as I know. However, I have only been shooting in the area for a few years so I may have some facts wrong.

What do you mean by "rules snobs"? You mean they WANT to follow the rules?

I stopped shooting IDPA because several SOs had their own interpretation of the rules...and those interpretations seemed to change from month to month. I'll take consistency anyday.

I think what Rob meant by "rules snobs" is that sometimes USPSA shooters find some of the IDPA rules counter intuitive (using cover, acceptable reloads, etc.). Some folks like the structure of IDPA while others prefer the freedom of USPSA. Either way and unfortunately, you're going to have schmucks in both games. In my experience, it is the people involved that will steer shooters in one direction or the other, sometimes leaving a bad taste. It is also my experience that those who truly love to shoot and compete, are also students of the games, and aren't swayed by bad experiences with the people involved.

Dave put it in polite words. On both sides of the isle I hear "xxxx rules are better because yyyyy" that is what I mean by a "rules snob". As to enforcement, IDPA does have some rules that are subjective (cover, FTDR, rnd dumping, etc.) as does USPSA (e.g., foot faults w/ significant advantage 1 PE total vs 1 PE / shot). As an official (IDPA or USPSA) gains experence, yes their understanding and application of the rules may change. We are all human and have human faults (at least I do). Don't get me wrong, I can understand how a shooter who started with USPSA could find IDPA rules restrictive, perhaps to much. Plus the number of subjective rules in IDPA can make is seem random

Any one can prefer one over the other or even chose to shot only one and not both, that is not a problem but to bad mouth the other sport (rules, officals, or shooters) does neither one any good.

I think there is a lot to be gained from shooting both, each tests similar but differnt skills in diffenerent ways.

  7. I hand load so the PF is not an issue, I really don't concern my self with being a "GAMMER" i shoot for fun winning is a bonus to me. And I shoot both just wanted to hear reviews on what the issues were on any problems with it. I'm trying to find some accurate loads I can go down to 750fps to make PF but man that probably a nice drop at 25 yards.

It really comes down to do you want to shoot ESP or CDP.

  8. Great gun for SS, but not for IDPA.

I am running the Wilson 10mm mags and load to 1.150". From what I've read, this COL seems short compared to what everyone recommends. However, this mag and COL runs great in my Trojan and my buddy's too. I am shooting 200 BBI. I'm glad because I've got many thousands of rounds that were loaded for my Glock 24.

IMO, the EGW mag catch is needed to get these mags to put the gun at slide lock.

    Why not for IDPA?

In IDPA ESP w/ only 9 rounds in the mag you may (or may not) be at a slight disadvantage. Also, unless you hand load minor PF 40cal ammo you will be shooting major PF ammo against guns that are mostly shooting minor PF ammo (9mm). For IDPA CDP, only 45 ACP is legal.

  9. Looking at getting a Trojan 5.0 for shooting IDPA and USPSA. What do we got for reviews and such, I wanted to also get the red grips for it also interested in reviews and load data. Would have got the 6.0 but it weights to much to play in IDPA.

In 40cal it will be legal for ESP but not CDP. While a 40cal 1911 works well for USPSA, in IDPA ESP you may be a slight disadvantage as compared to the 9mm 1911. In 45ACP you'll great for SS and CDP.

The 6.0 won't fit in the IDPA box.

  10. I am not a trained RO and have only been shooting USPSA for 2-3 years but ... To my simple mind it seems odd to make a distinction between pulling a lever and opening a port to shoot a target (with that target not a disappearing target, because you can reopen or even hold open the port) and pulling a lever to raise the target to shoot it as often as you want (or even holding back to shoot as much as you want)

In a practical sense that distinction is nonsensical.

  11. Registrations are flooding in nicely before the early deadline(especially the last Thursday and Friday). I am hoping we do not cut off registrations(walk-ins) because this was not our original intention.

This may be premature. As clubs are watching all of their operating expenses this was a win - win for all parties. However with the 49 clubs within the 7-9 states, there are simply not enough committed clubs willing to save on shipping costs for targets and pasters with Target Barn. Only 5 clubs committed in the offer(1 was iffy). This will not be worth any vendor to waste advertising and transportation costs for the low turnout for club savings. Now I understand that we all may have different vendors we buy supplies from but there will not be a better deal on IDPA targets in the area. I will be contacting the sponsor tomorrow to discuss as I feel that we will not be able to make this trip worthwhile for his business. I am sorry about this as this was a prize sponsor of the match as well as a match sponsor. That was money we did not need to lose as we will probably will have to purchase the targets for the match.

I run a small match in North Alabama and do need targets, but I don't need 500 at one time, that's 2+ years worth for me. If they are availalbe in smaller lots, I can take 200 - 250.

    Thanks

  12. Had the same issue after 30k rounds or so. Cleaning helped some. This morning I put the apex extractor in. hopefully that will fix it at tomorrows match...

The Apex instructions warn about a need to break it in (200-300 rnds recommended I recall) - it took me about 1 - 2 mags worth of shooting before good function. Don't be shocked if you get few failures for the first mag or two or more.

Thanks! good to know. I'll get there early and burn through some ammo to hopefully get the break in done!

Used it today in a 3 gun match..... ran flawlessly!

    Good deal.

  14. It's complicated - sort of.

When I got my M&P Pro I had some extraction issues, read about some early problems with the extractor and sent it back. All S&W did was polish the chamber. No evidence they did anything with the extractor. That seemed to work ok. When I ran out of PMC Bronze ammo, I started using some WWB and the problems returned - but only with WWB ammo.

I put in the Apex part. The Apex part comes shaped for 9mm use and includes instructions on how to reshape it for 40S&W. Comparing the factory part to the Apex part, it seemed the factory part was shaped more for 40S&W than for 9mm.

My guess is the factory part is a compromise between 9mm and 40S&W and as such it probably works most of the time with most 9mm ammo but not all the time with all 9mm ammo.

After a good cleaning and inspection to make sure nothing is broken and it still happens, I'd suggest put in the Apex part. Even if S&W replaced the extractor, I'm sure it would a standard part that I think is a compromise to work with both 9mm and 40S&W so it may not work all the time with all ammo.

  15. The lightest PF I got run in my G35 with a stock spring was ~140-145PF. Below that the slide seemed to be is slow motion.

I have a ligher spring but have not tried it yet.

A loca 'smith who works mostly on Glocks told me a 13# spring is good across the board to include factory ammo.

  16. With respect, its not the same at all. When they do the flip and catch, they can't show me an empty chamber so I have to stop them and make them go back - its a waist of time and adds unnecessary (though small) risk. BTW: flippers often (but not always) over run the ULSC process and making a flipper go back and show an empty chamber often just pisses them off.

If you don't feel it's right to ask them to stop, then don't. But unless someone points out a rule that says I CAN'T ask them to stop, I'll keep doing it.

    Be safe.

With the same respect, my experience at majors is most people that do this, have a fair amount of competency, the gun movement is very little is generally pointed at a berm and if they screw it up and and miss aren't reaching for it - and nearly all re-present the gun for me to inspect it. If someone does go all over the place, after the range is clear gets a little lesson as to why it makes ROs nervous, but I'm not going to request they not do it.

    Sounds like a reasonable approach.
