  1. Although this my post is not about the slide locking back I should tell you about what I have done. I bought an extra slide lock and it was a larger diameter than the one that was currently being used. The one being used was old and did have quite a bit of wear. I thought that it would be good to install one that was not wore down. I did not consider that a year ago I had a new slide installed by a gunsmith and the barrel/slide were setup for that wore slide lock. Everything functioned fine, but after a few months a horizontal crack developed between the locking lugs and the rail channels in the slide. I figure that the barrel was being pushed up a little too far by the over-sized slide lock. That was one of those learning things I hate.

    N320

Recommendations I got were to use 121gr, but I have a lot of MG 115 HP on hand and was going to use them.

    N320

I have tried a few of the VV powders (3N38, 340, 350) and I like them the best. I need a minor open load for the steel challenge and a few GM's have suggested 4.3 320 as a load. I have not loaded them yet, but that load was always their first suggestion.
  4. Highest zone hit, so Alpha. On scoring the OP's target: Sarge got it right: Alpha, NPM, NS. Troy When the RO's know the most current rule set this is scored properly. I know what it is like after the match wondering if you had been scored properly. The same problem happened to me (my hole was about 4" long). An RO with years of experience told me that a hole longer than 2" does not count. I think that his ruling may have been from some old rule, but since I did not have my rule book with me I did not argue. I always carry my rule book with me now and I recommend that to all.
  5. pjb45 is right we have everything in this town. I do know that Ed Cameron is in the northwest valley which should be close to you.
  6. I noticed that your Keyword and Description META tags do not have any descriptive text of your site. That would definitely help. I am a programmer and do most of my work on websites. Not so much with design, mostly with the business logic and database functionality. If you have questions about building your site just send me an email. I do not know how to ask people to have your site linked to theirs, but this posting worked for me. I will post a link on your site on my personal site. For someone that does this for a living I should have a better site, but for now it is just a bunch of links to me and my friends shooting at steel matches.
  7. I've been using Aftec's for around 4 years and never had that happen, although I do use supercomp and not 9mm. I have replaced springs, but I have never had to replace the cap.
  8. Using empty mags for this process might be recommended
  9. My score came in today: Open 35pts 3.52s 9.9432hf = 80.4264% that was a pretty good score for me. It moved me up to A class.
  10. I am no way near as observant as I should be during shooting. I have had 2 separate squibs in competition years ago and I did not notice anything. Luckily my old gun I was using at the time would not let another round chamber all the way with a bullet in the barrel. I tried and tried racking the slide to get the next one in before the RO stopped me mentioned that I might have a squib.
  11. coyote4x4, thanks for posting the step by step pictures of you process. You could have just shown the jig and some of us would just stare at it confused for quite a while.
  12. I have the same. I really like the electronics, but the shell was worthless. I took a pair of Peltor non-electronic muffs I had and installed the electronics in there. Now they are very quiet and have the amplification I like. I noticed when I was drilling the holes in the new muffs that the plastic is much thicker, about twice as thick as the Pro Ears shells. That probably has something to do with it.
  13. Depends what division it was in... big diff between open and production... Oh yes, that is an important part. It was in Open. It would take me double the time in production.
  14. I'm a 74% B class shooter 35pts 3.52s 9.9432hf I'm looking to move up to A and thought that this was really good for me. I see from the other scores that this may not be as good of a run as I thought.
  15. Just for the sake of discussion, let's look at that in a different light. You and several others claim that low ports maintain competitive equity while higher placed ports do not. But if a shooter of shorter stature doesn't even have to bend, and in some/many cases, slow down, to engage a target through that low port, how does that equate to a taller shooter who does have to stop/bend/get into and out of that position? Simple answer - it does create a competitive inequity in favor of the smaller shooter. The easy and fair answer is to use vertical slots or slits for access to targets; not ports that give a distinct advantage to the short folks among us. *Please don't misunderstand. I like short people. I have several friends who are short. I'm even grateful to short people. When I was very young and we were very poor, in the winter we would sometimes grab two little people and rub them together for heat. Just don't try to sell me on the idea that short ports are equally fair to all. You are right about a slight time advantage with somewhat lowered ports. I feel that this can be evened-out with the leaning shots that tall shooters might have a slight time advantage. I think the focus of the issue brought by short people is not the little bit of extra time to take the shot from a different port or a little bit of time difference in crouching for tall people, but that fact that shorter shooters lack that shooting position. If shorter shooters had the option to place a box or crate below the port and use that to have this shot available I think that it would be fair enough. Just as crouching takes a bit more time the box would take a bit more time also, but I would not complain.
  16. I am at about 5'6", so a bit on the short side. I have seen a young, skinny GM at our matches who is well over 6' easily get through a low port that I struggle getting to. It is a matter of physical condition. If a target is available for 6 footers or taller there is no way I could reach regardless of my flexibility. I'm not fond of the low ports either. The shooting positions that have leaning to the left or right do not seem as unfair, at least to me, probably because I do not have problems leaning far. Maybe it is the lower center of gravity. Also a tall person taking the time to lean far, shoot in that position and pull back just doesn't seem quick.
  17. Not normally so, but if you turn your holster in like an appendix rig, you could have an issue. The Barry is more prone to this than either the CCG or Quinn. JT The only holster I have heard of or seen that has had an issue is a SafariLand. Not a 013 but an earlier version. A little drimmel work and it was taken care of. Ghost, LimCat, Gupta Rivas, CR Speed and the like all work well. There is also a new player in town, I saw the first one Sunday. Cameron custom guns is making one, the one I saw was bright Blue. It looked very similar in design to both the Quinn and Cheely. I have a new Cameron open and it has the new mount. I never had a problem indexing my upwards mount, but I have had problem with parallax as StraightUp had mentioned. There have been a few frustrating times where I was trying to shoot around a barrel (leaning gun tilted slightly in the lean) and even though the dot was on the steel target the bullets were going in the barrel. I did use a Safariland 012 with this new gun for a short time, but now I use a 013. Neither touches the scope mount or gets in the way. I did notice from my 012 that on my draw I would pull the gun a bit sideways and hit the frame, removing some of the color from the frame. So I have taken a dremel to the edge of the 013 frame to break the corner, but not for clearance.
  18. I must have got the wrong one... very expensive and did not pick up much brass before breaking.
  19. Thanks for the references I will check back here when I get to a point where I want to re-anodize. The parts are still new and for now I was hoping someone knew of a coating of some sort that could prevent the fade from UV.
  20. If I missed this topic in my search please let me know. I even tried searching the web, but I do not which sites are just trying to sell something and won't help. I have had some Dawson aluminum base pads for a few years and the color has faded. They were once a deep red and now they are closer to orange. I could probably replace them, but they work fine so it is hard to let them go. I just bought a new open gun that has anodized aluminum parts on it. I was told that the scope mount and slide racker were "hard-anodized" so I don't know that they will fade, but the mag well is from Dawson and will probably suffer the same fate as their bases. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? I have read many threads on this forum so I know that there are some metal experts out there.
  21. The Brass Wizard works well for some of our ranges here and no so good for others. We have no grass, just sand and gravel. The size of the gravel does matter quite a bit. If the gravel or rocks are the size of the brass shells or a little larger there is a problem. The rocks will get caught in between the metal tines and allow the brass to escape. The ranges we have that are a bit sandy work ok. The tool will pull empty cases from the sand even if they cannot be seen. The metal tines go under the sand to get the cases.
  22. Until I took the Level 1 RO class I was WAY off on what I though proper scoring was. Now scoring seems so easy and straightforward.
  23. I also just listen to music. I used to find that reloading was not boring, but back then I did not shoot and reload as many rounds. Now that I shoot more the long, multiple hour sessions have me bored. I like the idea of a mostly automated process and I hope to get there some day.
  24. I'm not a gunsmith, but it looks fine to me. I would certainly not flat-top the slide or do any other cutting that would thin out the lock lug area. I have talked about slide cuts with my gunsmith before and definitely has some "don't ever cut that way" opinions. Here is how close he does his cuts.
