  1. If it's a "stock" Shadow, it should shoot Win SPPs 100%. If it's new, contact the seller. If the hammer spring has been lightened below 15#, it probably needs the extended FP from CZ Custom or Cajun Gun Works (comes with a lighter FP spring). My son's Shadow, had mild CZ Custom polishing and the lighter 15# hammer spring put in. It fires WIN SPPs 100%
  2. One thing you might want to add to this technique: Use a "spent UNsized case" and seat your new bullet by hand, just far enough into the case to hold it. Then with the BBL out of the pistol carefully insert the dummy cartridge into the chamber and slowly push it in firmly until it seats on the case mouth. Turn the BBL up and carefully pull the the dummy cartridge back out and measure it. This is the oal that is "touching" the rifling. Do this with a couple more until you have a consistent "max oal". Then subtract .015" from that length to get get a MAX Usable oal. IN THAT PISTOL with THAT bullet. Every pistol and bullet can be different. If your loading for multiple pistols, use the one with the shortest chamber so your load will fit them all. The additional .015" headspace allows for reloader, press and bullet nose-shape variations that do occur plus a little headspace. Hope this makes sense.
  3. Won't do much for the comp, but 4.2 n320 @ 1.135 130PF is soft shooting in a CZ.
  4. There are a lot of 9mm minor loads if you do a search. CZ 4.72" bbl: Vit n320 shoots cleaner and softer than Titegroup. For the M.G. 124 CMJ @ 1.132, 4.1grs gave me around 130PF (Going from memory, so work up) If you used Berry's, you should really try the 124 TS HBRN over 4.1 grs of n320 at 1.135, 129PF and shoots to POA. This same bullet (TS=Thick plating) is designed for 1450'/min in 38Super. Not enough gas for a comp, but soft shooting.
  5. Those would cause premature slide locking. If the notch is rounded it will slide right over the slide stop. I'm not experienced with the spring. My four other mags still lock back. When I shoot steel, I use my son's two 19 rd Shadow mags and they still lock back too.
  6. THANKS schmeky, I did forget about that possiblity--duh. Just checked it. It still looks square and uniform. It is very polished about the last 1/64" from the edge. It "could" be worn back a .0001", but nothing really visible to the/my naked eye. Should I hand work it to a sharp fresh "face"? One mag made me think mag-spring. A second mag less than 2 weeks later, and I begin to doubt they both started failing at the same time, but maybe so. I do try to rotate their use evenly. ck1: ..? I did check that. The slide stop was replaced quite a while back, and it still looks good with a sharp edge bjust slightly polished. Thanks, good thought. Any more ideas before I visit Wolff's gunsprings.com for 6 +10% magsprings and a recoil spring??? Come to think of it, I may try the 11# Browning HP recoil spring that is said to actually fit the 75B plastic guide rod a little better.
  7. Pistol: 9mm 75B, 11# (minus two coils) recoil spring, 13# (minus two coils) hammer spring, 50K+/- rds. I use 6 mags, 4 Mec-Gar and two stock all 16 rds. Last spring replacements were about 6-7K rds ago. Followers were replaced about 10-15K back. Never had a mag problem of any kind. First I had one Mec-Gar mag that didn't lock back after the last rd. Now, two weeks later, another one (didn't catch which type it was) won't lock back. Where would you start? I appreciate your help.
  8. ALL of us have worked on loads without a chrono, where load data is all you've got to stay safe. Getting a chrono can give surprising results from what you "thought" you had loaded. I had to break down over over 200 rds that were too light when I got mine. They can help you tune the load to your gun and shooting preferences.

Wish I still worked, and with you! Those are great for 75B that shoots steel--I borrow my son's. 5 should be enough, but once in a great while even local stage set-ups may require 5. That means you won't have a back pocket/"spare mag" in case of a problem.
  10. The Berry's .356" 124 HBRN TP double struck plated bullet really shoots well in my CZ's. They are "Thick Plated" and made to run in a 38 Super at 1450'/sec. A side benefit is that they need virtually no bell on the case mouth. This bullets base is bevelled/and rounded over and slides right in easily with no damage. Even with a "TP" bullet, I wouldn't crimp them too hard. I've been crimping them to .378-ish with minor PF loads. But that's just me. http://www.tjconevera.com/be9mm124grho1.html
  11. Quite a while back I quit using PDs. I made the mistake of measuring PD 124fmj bullet lengths due to chrono inconsistencies. Had big differences. They did send me 500 more and they were no better. I said goodbye. Others said no problems. Win 231 4.30 1.115 1065 avg 132.0 --- 4.72" CZ bbl --- Start low and work up.
  12. I don't know decockers, but if your trigger has an overtravel and or a reset/pre-travel adjustment screw/s (also offered by CGW with the short reach kits), make sure to back off and leave a little "slack in them.

Message body The same spring the regular TAC Sport uses--I think.
  14. I use a turret press and have done it a number of times for 9mm with FED SPPs. I just run the case through the full loading cycle and catch the live primers. No time wasted. I've never shot my chrono either.
  15. I would be careful loading major loads with a short chamber. You risk increasing the pressure to unacceptable levels. With a short chamber, the loaded long bullet might be resting on the lands and thus increases pressure. If you know your barrel is short chambered, have the throat increased to reduce pressure. Thanks to all for the info. It confirms my conclusions from reading the other threads on 9 Major loading. les: I've loaded all the bullet types and am familiar with CZ oal limitations. The MG124CMJ would probably be my first bullet to give major a try. The MG will load out to well over 2.0" with no rifling/cone contact, but the mags limit OAL to about 1.165-ish. Berry's newer 124HBRN TP (thick plating) is made to run at 1450 in 38 super, so eventually I want to try those too. It will also load long in a Cz chamber, but the mags won't. I'm looking at (drooling over) a major CZ TS gun, but I'm just trying to get a handle on what I need to get a started IF the $$ suddenly show up. Thanks again.
  16. I'm trying to learn more about 9mm Luger Major loads using a short chamber before I get the gun. I reload and shoot Production now. Let me say up front, I appreciate any info/advice that you can pass on. What are 115 gr and 124gr bullet weight advantages/dis-advantages loading to a max of 1.165"? Other than being able to reach the 1.165" OAL due to the mags and in a short chamber, what advantages do nose-shapes offer? (FMJ RN vs FP vs HP) After reaching 170-175PF, what's the best method to tune the load to the comp to make it steady? I'll rarely be shooting beyond 35 yds and mostly inside 25 yds. Thanks
  17. wirecounter, Load data gives the "minimum oal" and the pressures "they" encountered during testing at that oal. If you load shorter than published, you don't have a guide for how much pressure will 'increase'. If you load longer than published, pressures will drop; so that may require more powder to reach the same published pressures/bullet speed. Stay in the "safe oal range", start low and work up. As said above, the safe oal range includes "what your gun" will accept. In addition to guns functioning better at higher PFs, the powder usually burns more efficiently at higher pressures/PFs. It's typical for lighter loads to burn dirtier/sooty and chrono ES and SD to grow. Titegroup is no exception.
  18. Mine on a 75B doesnt't protrude--original spring. No lite strikes with 13# main with two coils cut off using Fed or Win primers.. I was getting the same 2/100 with WIN as the OP. Cajun Gun Works (CGW) makes and markets a new extended pin and matching light spring. His other kits and mods work well. he offers down to an ultra light (FED Primers only) 8# kit. Makes no difference to speak of with SA, but does in DA.
  19. http://shop.cz-usa.com/P-0420005304/Magazine-Catch-85-Combat.aspx Sure doesn't "look" like the 75B mag catch. I'm interested in an extended release for the B too.

That is shorter than factory ammo. I worry with my 1.165 but nothing has blown up yet, and I've been to 189pf. Those are CMJ's and JHP will only go 1.145, so I quit using them. Which bullet, wgt and nose-shape? Don't laugh. Berry's new 124 HBRN TP(thick plated) .356 bullet is rated at 1450'/sec in 38 Super. I load these for minor and the bullet will load out to whatever the mag will hold in a 75B and clear the lands. 1.169"+. The bullet is .619" long but the "base" is hollowed out. That gives more case volume and the long rifling contact of the Zero JHP. http://www.berrysmfg.com/product-i14844-c11-g8-b0-p0-9mm_124gr_HBRN_TP.aspx cocobolo, I'd give you a few if you'd try them with Silhouette. I'm curious. If it runs, it might be the bullet for the CZeckmate.

Has anyone 'tested' the chamber to see how long some of the commonly used bullets can load? If it's the same as the TS it will be short.
  22. Natchez has 330-4, but is out of n320-4
  23. When you build a new load or change bullets, your going to appreciate the chrono for more than just meeting PF requirements. It'll also help you tweek your loads for accuracy, feel, Wisconson temp sensitivity and powder position effects. You'll also make new friends at the range.
  24. CGW also sells a 'lighter' extended firing pin ++. http://www.cajungunworks.com/ultra-lite.html
