  1. Thanks for the idea. I bought it new a few years ago, I guess at this point it won't hurt to try the larger bar. The powder measure is a "by guess or by golly" setup. Baaaaaadddd.
  2. It's official, I cannot get the measure to throw 24 grains of H335 or any other weight repeatedly for my 223. So I have to resize and prime on the 550, pull the case from the next station and dump the powder from my RCBS Chargemaster into the case, put it back on the seating station and finish the round. I've adjusted it per instructions, but no go. I bought my 550B for pistol and 223 but it looks like I'll just be using it for pistol. I'm pretty disgusted right now.
  3. I spent so much time trying to get my 550 measure to throw Benchmark powder that I gave up and used my RCBS Chargemaster. Always right on and it's faster to set up the load.
  4. With me, I was suspicious of the accuracy of the powder measure being consistent. Then someone told me about the thousands of pistol shooters who shoot thousands of rounds every year without any blowups. That did it for me. Now I wish I would have bought a 650 instead of a 550. Dillons are really built for the long haul.

    Only ONE GLOCK

I really like my G26 but I'd have to go with my new G30. 10 shots of 230 grain Gold Dots should handle anything that comes my way.
  6. 124g plated RN from Precision Delta
  7. I tumble after I shoot, it's easier to find the brass after it's been fired if it is shiny.
  8. I place my wet brass in a 5 gallon bucket and drain as much water out of the bucket as possible. Then I lay a large 3 speed fan over the top of the bucket. I turn the fan on high and after about 30 minutes mix the brass with a stick or pole. After about one hour the brass is completely dry. I did about 3,000 223 cases that way.
  9. STP synthetic motor oil treatment. Very sticky and thick, ie clingy. My ram just glides NOW.
  10. No but now I wish I would have, but really not much to complain about my 550B.
  11. Don't you just hate all those free parts with free shipping? For shame Dillon!
  12. I was on the Dillon site and was about to order a set of dies and I clicked the shipping rate to Iowa. It showed $15 for an item that will fit in a USPS flat rate box for $4.99. That's 3X the shipping rate it could be. Is that really taking care of the customer or price gouging? I want to order a Super Swaging tool but again, it's $15 UPS and could probably fit in a flat rate box. I really like all the Dillon products I have, but I don't see the justification for choosing to ship it UPS over USPS and save the customer money.
  13. I was just given about 1500 brass too. First I tumbled them and then sized and deprimed them on my Lee cast press with a Lee FL size die. Then I took the 5 gallon bucket they were in and added some Castrol super clean to enough water to cover the cases. This washed off all the Midway case lube. After draining most of the water from the bucket I laid my big fan over the top of the 5 gallon bucket and the cases were dry in about an hour. Next I will use a Super swager tool C-clamped to a 2 x 4 and have them ready to prime and load on my 550 press.
  14. Why not bolt it to a 2 X 4 and C-clamp it to the bench. Then it's out of the way when not needed. That's what I'm going to do to mine when I get it soon.
  15. Thanks Gary, that saves me sending the die in for an exchange.
  16. I didn't want an undersized die, I just ordered a 44 magnum carbide die and it's too tight to size a case w/o lubing the case.
  17. I recently bought this and with any brand of brass or condition, new or fired, I have to lube the case or else I have to use both hands on the handle to size the case. Anybody else have this problem?
  18. Thanks for the advice, my problem isn't getting the load back to where it was. My problem is from one throw to the next the variance may be 3-5 tenths off. Benchmarks is pretty small stick powder so I would think if I raise the handle slowly I should be able to get at least 2 loads in a row to weigh the same but the beast won't do it. Thanks for the link Brian, maybe I'll try the polishing method, it can't hurt.
  19. On my 550B, I'm trying to load my .223 with 24.6 gr of Benchmark and 60 gr Hornady V Max bullets for coyotes. I can't get repeatable accuracy with my powder measure, I have to trickle it to that amount with a trickler and a RCBS 750 electronic scale. I'm to the point of frustration since I have to do this with all my other rifle calibers too, that I'm going to buy a RCBS Chargemaster which would be faster and less frustrating. Pretty disappointed in the Dillon powder measures (4) of them I own. Maybe selling the Dillons will pay for the RCBS Chargemaster I have to buy.
  20. For small volume rifle brass, I use a cheap micro fiber towel it works very well.
  21. I use a slight crimp with a Lee crimp die. No problems and peace of mind.
  22. I read an article in the American Rifleman several years ago about a guy who had some primers detonate while he was loading and of course his powder was in the same room nearby. It caused an enormous explosion and blew up the house and if I remember correctly, killed him. Just food for thought.
