  1. I used to blink, every shot. Holding my eyes wide open didn't help. I read the solution that worked for me here on the Enos Forums years ago. Relax your jaw. Let it hang loose, slack jawed so to speak. It relaxes the muscles in your face and neck. A few range sessions doing this and I had lost my blink, I could see my sights tracking, brass ejecting, muzzle blast. Then I worked on watching the rise and fall of the sights while being aware of what else I could see with my peripheral vision. It was a huge breakthrough for me. I still use the technique if I notice that I'm getting tense. It's worth a try. Rick
  2. That's the truth. My wife picked my STI Trojan in 9mm. I put the original thin grips that came with it back on and it has been hers every since. She can shoot a 1911 chambered in .45 acp fine, but for longer range session she prefers 9mm. Rick
  3. Which specific product from Petco do ya'll use for the ground corn cob? I've purchased the ground walnut shells from Petco sold as Lizard Litter. I also use used dryer sheets cut into strips. Rick
  4. I also stand. It seems to give me more leverage. I built my bench after I received my 650 so I could determine the optimum height. I stand on an anti-fatigue mat, about 1" thick. I accounted for the thickness of the mat when I built my bench. Rick
  5. I keep a log for each firearm I own. I use the smaller size spiral notebooks. I track round count, ammo type, cleaning, spring changes, maintenance, modifications and range conditions if it's something out of the ordinary like extremely dusty or raining. Rick
  6. Correct, one complete gun and one extra barrel.
  7. I have a S&W 868-4 + with a 6-inch barrel. I picked up a used 686 5-inch barrel that I would like to have installed. Both the revolver and 5-inch barrel are in good shape, but I'm thinking some clean up of the finish of both would be warranted so that the finish is uniform. I also want to have the cylinder machined for moon clips. My first thought was to have the barrel swap and clean up of the finish done at S&W and then have the cylinder machined at one of the 'smiths listed at TK Custom. Does anyone have a recommendation on where I could have all of the work done at one time? Thanks, Rick
  8. 5.0 gr WST should make that with no trouble. I'd be just a little wary of WST down in Georgia. I used it a lot back in the early 90s until I went minor at a sectional over near Omaha. It happened the same time to a buddy who was using WST. It seems WST (and its predecessor 452AA) are very negatively affected by hot weather. Shotgunners who use it at matches learned to keep ammo in a cooler. Unfortunately, you can't do that in our games. My favorite powder for 230 gr is WST. Last time I chronoed my regular load, I got a PF=177 using Zero 230 gr JHP, 4.7 gr WST, FedLP, mixed brass out of a 4" 625-8 on a 95 degree F day in Texas.
  9. I've found the same thing. I have a Hi-Power and S&W 625 both with a gold bead front sight and I have the same handguns with FO front sights. No contest, the green FO is much easier to pick up than the gold bead. As far as real world applications: My wife took LFI 2 and was shooting her STI Trojan with a Dawson FO front sight. The FO element fell out near the end of the first day. I neglected to send her with any replacement FO material so she finished the remainder of the class without the FO element. She had no problems shooting without the FO element. The Dawson FO front sight will still give you a nice clear sight picture even without the FO element. Rick
  10. I haven't shot any matches for several years due to chronic health problems. When I was shooting, I shot the Alpha-Mike Shooters matches at Bulverde. I also alternated shooting the Texas Steel matches at Bulverde or the ALSPPC matches when they were held at the Hill Country Range on Hamilton Pool Rd so that I shot two matches a month. My health is improving and for the last twelve months or so I've been working up to where I can shoot weekly or more. Now I just need to get off my butt and start shooting some matches again. It's as much mental as physical at this point, but that's a subject for another post. Anyway, I'd like to start shooting the Alpha-Mike matches again. Now that ALSPPC has moved their matches to La Grange, I'm considering trying some of the matches in San Antonio too. With all of the above said, I'm not ready to start competing shooting a revolver. I've picked up a few revolvers and I enjoy shooting them, but I suck. Hence the request for some instruction on how to properly shoot a revolver. Great! I shoot a Glock worse than I shoot a wheel gun. I'll send AlamoShooter a PM. Thanks to all, Rick
  11. Agreed, that would be great! ;-) Rick
  12. Same question from another Rick, in Austin. This sounds like a great place to start. Thanks, Rick
  13. oufree, The powder spillage on my 650 was driving me nuts. I clipped the detent ball spring one-half coil but did not see much improvement. I tried the suggestion quoted below and it works great. I hold the bullet with my left thumb and index finger and apply pressure on the shell plate with my left middle finger. I found it here.
