  1. Tumble then load 'em up. I don't lube but some do. You would lube after tumbling. I load on a Dillon so I don't mess with cleaning the primer pockets. Don't think I would even if I was loading on a single stage.
  2. Cool I just used a single parallel bar to support it from the bottom while getting a good bite on the striker with the vise.
  3. I will mimic the set up in my mill and post them. Stand by to stand by...
  4. I see what you mean and yeah the new way you are doing it is correct. The cutter will last MUCH longer now.
  5. I can see where you are going and I love it man! Just keep making chips, it's only metal!
  6. For example I used a 3/8" 4 flute square end mill to cut the flat on the G19 slide for the RMR. My RPM was about 400-500 but I was only taking .005" per pass with a slow feed as well. This is because that slide is diamond hard. I really just listen to the mill and watch the chip load. It will get easier and once you hit the right formula write it down, rinse and repeat.
  7. Yeah it is. First rule of thumb slower is always better. Also listen to the mill. If you are getting chatter or squealing something is too fast. Smaller cutters need a faster RPM. The bigger diameter the slower the RPM.
  8. Blind Hogg's are the instructions I used to learn. They are spot on. Once you do it a few times you will most likely make small improvements to suit your mill and style. And what is the riddle in the image? Did you make your first cuts with the mill on the striker?
  9. from the Nov 2010 BOD Meeting I could be wrong but this to me seems that the board passed the decision to the ExDir. so they abdicated their responsibility. Now one individual can set whatever criteria they want to justify releasing the data. They could set the bar so high as to never reveal said data. So much for transparency...
  10. I wear and shoot with progressives. I am sure there is better but have yet to try them. So far they work for me.
  11. No no I was just riffing on it. The comment that "Top Builders don't do it" was the one that was offensive.
  12. I am the bubba that does it in his garage and I love it. I just did my open gun (god forbid I did this to a competition gun) and it looks beautiful and all things being equal Cerakote is my preference.
  13. So if it is the box then then the rest of this qualifier is not important outside of the frame being metal. It opens it up to more interpretation and I am not rehashing my arguments before the ruling. If you would like to know how I interrupted it please feel free to re-read this thread. Looks like I am building a 5.4!
  14. There it is. I would suggest removing/editing this qualifying descriptor then: "Only 1911 production type pistols. Must be available to the general public and have their basis in the original 1911 service pistol as designed by John M. Browning. Pistols made from components that duplicate the factory originals are acceptable. Frames must be metal"
  15. The gamer in me wants to build a new gun. The purist in me wants the 5" to be the limit.
  16. Indeed it does: "Template Description:USPSA/IPSC Legal 5.4 inch Single Stack. This is the longest sight radius pistol that will fit the USPSA/IPSC box." Still waitin' for Amidon.
  17. Would love a link to where is says that on their site as I can't find it. And I think I will wait for conformation from NROI before I run out and buy a SVI 5.4" barrel length, Proprietary Pistol Design. http://www.sviguns.com/7101.php
