  1. Todays match a SGSC was a bit of a shit show. 1 mike, entirely too many deltas. I don't do well win the cold, I guess. I think time and points were all worse than when I shot the same exact stages back in December. It got steadily better as the day progressed, so there's at least that.
  2. Why are you so surprised? I have been preaching this for awhile. Have fun without the magwell. Just surprised in that it was more consistent right off the bat, without having practiced it at all.
  3. About 15 minutes of burkett reloads and 30 more of 2R2 without the magwell. This is the most awful, sucktastic, shitty, no-good drill ever. JMB may have been a genius in many ways, but what the fcuk was he thinking with that magazine opening???
  4. I'd like to stick with FMJs. My understanding is that I'd need a new crimp die to use moly or lead, because the Lee FCD does something to lead bullets. (Redding has a new micrometer adjustable taper crimp die that I want anyway) but moly coated Bayous are the next choice. Someone told me today Donnie isn't taking orders right now, so it'll be BBI, or that failing, SNS. I'm hoping to avoid the lead though, rather not deal with the smoke if I don't have to.
  5. After traveling for work the last 2 weeks, I'm getting back to the dryfire program. The file work on the slide stop not only allows the slide to lock back like its supposed to, but the mags seat MUCH easier without the mag lip hitting the stop lobe. I tried the Stoeger/Vogel lower, closer-in reload last night - seems to be more consistent, but maybe a tick slower. The latter was expected, because it's new to me, but for that same reason the former was a bit of a surprise. I'm going to experiment more with this. Match season is fast approaching. There's a special classier match in just a few weeks, followed by 2 majors a few weeks after that, so it's time to really step up the practice regimen. With a little luck, I'll be able to score some more bullets next week so I don't have to ration the live fire practice.
  6. That's a little misleading though, showing major with higher HFs an almost all stages. The implied assumption is that the samples are comparable, but they aren't. Lots of minor shooters, some in the lower classifications drag the mean down. . tab pf PF | Freq. Percent Cum. ------------+----------------------------------- major | 68 36.17 36.17 minor | 120 63.83 100.00 ------------+----------------------------------- Total | 188 100.00 A little more apples-apples comparison would be to limit it to the people who shot both. ----------------------------------- | PF name | major minor -----------------+----------------- Brethour,Richard | 4.40198 4.3557 Caudill,Paul | 2.6466 3.71823 Drake,Larry | 3.08195 3.72225 Krushak,Scott | 2.86427 3.59982 Leatham,Rob | 5.42037 6.30755 Perkinson,Brad | 2.46637 3.73195 Rodriguez,John | 3.31503 3.9792 Schrock,Brian | 3.44648 4.4754 Travis,Mark | 2.23507 2.04142 Warren,Rudy | 2.70322 3.76205 ----------------------------------- Only 2 people shot better with major (and/or on first run)

  8. Interesting stuff! Basic stats on overall match points... pf | mean sd cv mean -------+---------------------------------------- Major | 228.3768 64.36868 .281853 228.3768 Minor | 216.7606 73.63355 .3396999 216.7606 -------+---------------------------------------- Total | 220.9622 69.9367 .3165098 220.9622 ------------------------------------------------ Generally looks good for major - notice TGOs huge score on the minor plot dragging up the mean. I can't wait to dig into the stage results, it'll give me something to do on the plane.
  9. Got the new STI out to the range today. 300 rds ran through it fine. The hitch was half my cmc mags wouldn't lock the slide back, even when hand cycled. As it turns out, the slide stop nub was rubbing/binding on the mag lip. A few swipes of the file and I think the problem is solved. They all lock back when I quickly slingshot the slide. Saves me from having to spend a Crapton of money on new Tripp or Wilson etm mags. The.actual shooting was so so. Shot groups and a few bill drills to knock the rust off and get used to the new gun. Without the EGW FPS and having a lighter mainspring, it cycles a bit different than the TRP. 2 out of 6 under 2 and clean from surrender. Nothing but dryfire for the last month made me a little lazy on grip. First few runs really showed that. Reloads are still a work in progress. Did some 2r2 on the 8" plate at 10yds. 1.3-1.4. Not great. The wind was pretty nasty, so I didn't set up anything more involved.
  10. My self image would hate that. But if I can get that skinny mag in that skinny hole, that would be pretty awesome. (that's what she said)
  11. Got the STI back today, and AllenM out in Avon, IN did a wonderful job blending the magwell. Fast turnaround, too. After about a week of no dry-fire due to not having the STI ready and being out in Colorado for a few days, I got back to work. It was a Steve Anderson R&R kinda practice session. Drills 1-9 to knock the rust off. About a billion Burkett reloads and variations of 6R6 formed the bulk of practice. That little bit of opening up on the well went a long way. I'm hoping to get out Monday afternoon to finally put a few hundred rounds through this thing and make sure it runs. Work has me pretty slammed, so that's 50/50.
  12. I hear you on bullets. I've got enough powder and primers for awhile, but a little short on bullets. Hopefully things will calm down sooner rather than later.
  13. If Glock started making Production-legal guns that came from the factory with a pre-travel stop I don't think anyone would object to it being legal in Production division. CZ does the same and suddenly a few people go on crusades to argue the legality. I don't think anyone really objects to them as an illegal aftermarket thing as it stands now? Maybe Mpolans does?
  14. If a Glock has a pre-travel stop, the trigger doesn't sit as far forward as an unmodified gun (even before the first shot), and would thus be illegal under that rather odd interpretation of the rules.
  15. Not the magwell area, but it already has been violated by the dremel though. I polished up the trigger bow. Also installed and tuned a new mag catch, which required some dremel work.
  16. I almsot tried last night. I had the well piece off and dremel turned on in the other hand.....I couldn't bring myself to do it. I talked to a 'smith, said he could do it properly on the mill in 7-10 days for a pretty reasonable price.
  17. I did it on the TRP. But it was a PITA, and I'm not enthused about taking a dremel to what is otherwise a really, really, really nice 1911. I'd rather have it done right, but with the season fast approaching and most smith's lead times being forever, I'm thinking I ought to just suck it up and get better at putting the mag where it belongs.
  18. Dry fire with the new gun. The magwell is not nearly as generous as I've become accustomed to. It started off EXTREMELY frustrating. After about 30 minutes of lousy 2-reload-2, I went to Burkett reloads for about 20 minutes. then back to 2-reload-2. HUGE improvement. That led to a bunch of sub 2 runs in a row. Until I get completely used to this magwell (or get it opened up), I think Burkett reloads need to be a staple. Extended mag button comes tomorrow. That might help some as well.
  19. Not quite that extreme, but I had a half-baked idea that Vis in DVC ought to get more weight. Maybe a major plus scoring or some sort of HF weighted by PF or something along those lines. This might open up gun selection options having a 3rd variable to consider. Maybe 45 limited guns would actually be viable? Maybe Revo would start seeing guys shooting 629s and redhawks with full bore 44 instead of the ubiquitous 625? Maybe 40 would be an option in Open? If nothing else it would be interesting to see how the capacity vs. power dynamic shapes up.
  20. i don't have a revolver, never have, but have been inexplicably drawn toward buying one as of late. I'm not wealthy enough to buy different guns for different games, and I'd like the 1 wheel gun to be useful for ICORE, Steel, USPSA, and maybe sitting on the night stand. The 627 seems like it'd be great for all those roles, except for USPSA. That's the main thing holding me back from buying a wheelgun, really. With course design as it is, I can see it making the 625 obsolete, though. Maybe that's part of it. It's painful just watching the revo guys have to standing reloads on the typical 4-target arrays found on so many COFs per 1.2.1.1, et seq. I don't know how they have the patience for it. That sort of thing would be a bigger discouragement/frustration to me than the overall finish as compared to the other divisions. Would current revo guys quit if their 625s ended up with the capacity disadvantage but keeping a points advantage? Or is the trend such that so few people coming into the game want to shoot revolvers that the division is beyond saving? I don't claim to speak for anyone but myself, but if it were allowed, I'd play in revo. I can't justify a 625 purchase, so under current rules I won't. Outside of USPSA I just don't have any use for a 6-shot 45. I've already got an 8-shot 45, with an awesome trigger and a really fast reloading procedure. An 8-shot 357, on the other hand, I can justify for multiple uses. Sure, people get USPSA specific open guns, but how many newbs go out and buy an open gun, or even a USPSA purpose built limited gun, as their entry point into the sport? (I'm sure we could proxy that from classification data) Compared to how many people take the gun they bought for home defense or carry to their first match?
  21. I'm looking at another SS gun, and one that may be an option is an older S&W PC1911. It's not the new Series 70 model, it has the schwartz system. Does anyone one of these? How do they compare to something like an STI Sentry, Springer TRP/Trophy match, or higher end Kimbers?
  22. My +5 is pretty much flush with a 21" M2, so +6 is likely what you're looking for.
