  1. To me it seems like mag pouches that use a leaf spring to create retention behind the mag are less prone to binding than the ones that use tension from the sides of the mag pouch to retain the mag. I first noticed this when I tried some Ghost 360 mag pouches for Production, which led me to upgrade from the Safariland 771's I used for my Limited rig for the DAA aluminums. Last spring I switched out the 1911 CompTacs for the DAA Single Stack Racers.

I like bullets out and the DAAs and Ghost allow you to do that. Plus 6 SS DAAs take up less room on my belt than the CompTacs.

  2. no...slide is machined for rear sight. which is not allowed in SSP rules.

Which in my opinion makes it a super dumb rule. For the love of god, its a carry gun (and a really nice one at that).

  3. I have a couple 140mm mags that can hold 21 rnds but I normally use them as my 1st and 2nd mag on the belt and just run 20 in them since are easier to seat than my mags that can only hold 20. Though there have been a few 22 rnd stages here and there that I started with one of the 21'ers in the gun for 21+1 at the start to avoid having to do a reload. However I agree with the comments that the majority of the time there is usually some place in the stage where you can toss in a reload without losing much time.

  4. I picked up a used 2010 CZ75 Shadow while I was waiting for a 2014 CZ SP-01 to come from CZC's shop. The 75 Shadow has a pretty short reset but does not have the super short pre-travel in SA mode that the current ones worked over by CZC, Mink or CGW have. As soon as the CZC SP-01 shows up the 75 Shadow is either getting some upgrades with parts from CGW or is going to get sent off to somebody for some trigger work.

  5. I think one of the benefits of the DAA pouches is the leaf spring that provides fore and aft tension instead of side to side tension that most of the other mag pouches provide. IMO the release is much cleaner that way and less opportunity for the mag to bind when you yank it out.

  6. I've run both and currently have both. The S&A style IMO is just as fast as the Techwell / Dawson magwells but I think where the big mouth ones give you an advantage is they are a little more forgiving of a sloppy reload. But if you stick the reload then the difference is not as great.

  7. I personally like the beavertail feature on the Gen 4's. The lack of one on the Gen 3's always meant that at some point I was going to bleed when I shot it, so I sold my Gen 3 and got a Gen 4. Happier camper now. I'd like to undercut the trigger guard for my strong hand's middle finger but that modification is not allowed in Production division...

  8. No issues with rails in Limited. You can do a short rail, full length rail, or whatever in Limited or L-10. Single Stack division is the one with restrictions on rail length (3.25" max length of the rail).

  9. I have a 2011 that started out as a .40SW Eagle. But when I got my 6" .40 2011 the Eagle kind of got relegated to just being its backup. So when I got it into my head that I needed a 9mm 2011 for 3-gun, Steel Challenge, IDPA... I had my gunsmith put together a 9mm top end for the Eagle. In the last few years I've shot <100 rnds of .40 thru the Eagle but probably >5K of 9mm. But until I have a better option for a back-up Limited gun, the .40 top end for the Eagle will continue to go with me to majors.

I suppose if I didn't have the 6" 2011 the .40 Eagle would get shot a lot more. But life's too short to be that thrifty.

  10. I went with the 6' bed with my double cab for the extra cargo space, plus I can sleep in the back (I have a canopy on mine). 3 guys and all their gear going to an Area match can pretty much fill up the bed. I'd say 2 people max for a 3-gun match...

I haven't had the engine knocking with my '08 and pretty much all I run is 87 octane.

IMO, the 4.0 engine is the Taco's best selling point. The suspension is probably its worst but if you're into wrenching on your own vehicles this is not a huge deal. I knew going into it I was going to have to do some mods, it was just a question of which ones.

I think it all depends on what size truck you're looking for. If you want a small one the Taco IMO is the best of the available offerings. For a work truck its on the small end, which is why I suggested the Nissan Titan for a better mid-size just short of going full size. I hear the new Chevy Colorado is supposed to come with a diesel when ever it is released.

On the other hand, my wife wants to get a high roof Sprinter van and convert it into a mobile dog kennel / RV for her out of town dog agility trials. Having test driven them I was rather impressed. Might have to put dog sponsor stickers on one side and shooting stickers on the other...
