  1. I would like to see chrono numbers on that, as well as an idea of how clean burning 231 is. some say dirty, some clean.
  2. you are like many of us. We load two types of bullets and even different powders to be cost effective or just due to supply. That said the a good round like the MG makes me confident the bullet will hit what I aim for in a match, so I load good quality for our match ammo. We sight the guns with them and learn their timing. Practice ammo is close but not as precise. In a perfect world and unlimited finances yes I would use the best for every round. But it has been impractical in the last few years.
  3. DougC, and Flex got you covered, powders are important, 310 in 9mm was shotgun pattern, TG, WST, 231, bullseye one holers. However, I will add that xtreme 124 FP out of my wife's glock, and my Kart and infinity barrels made excellent groups, while their 147 round nose was a disaster. Some barrels like different bullets and different loads. A pro friend of mine said this about "match ammo", what is it worth to use a bullet that can get you an inch closer to the A zone ? practice ammo is a different story. just as a reference, get a handful of zero or MG from someone and load them with the same powder charge etc.
  4. American Select is a ready alternative to the more popular powders, it just meters lousy, would not mind finding a powder that meters better. Since there is so much variations in bullets, brass, barrels, primers, powder lots, temperatures, etc. Yes, if you want to reaload period, you need to start low and take your time chronographing every change.
  5. Yes sir but the one I wrote about is a bushing barrel short. Just wanted to make sure I had not misled the thread.....
  6. I think the weight was being added to a short cover bushing gun....
  7. 600 jugs of #4, sold out in 9 hrs. VV needs to make more of what they sell most of
  8. I believe he was at 4.8, and went to 5.1 right before nationals. But who knows, other than chrono each time you load to establish a pattern.
  9. Not sure there is much of that left on shelves anymore. Top ten in nationals shooter friend of mine, was using it , practice rounds and chrono in the month prior his load was running 172pf, opened a new container a week prior to the limited nationals and had to bump up .3 grains to maintain the same PF. There has been other shooters mention such things, but only one with extensive chrono work. So far so good with mine, but I have an 8lb jug.
  10. Thanks Tony, appreciate the effort , it is not critical but a curiosity.
  11. Thanks for the info Tony My chrono concurs with the manual. It is a clean burning, alternative to other impossible to find powders, but a couple of other shooters seem to have had variations lot to lot. I still would like to know about temp sensitivity
  12. All those powders can be adapted but none of my sources have anything. Might need a "found powder here" thread
  13. Meters well enough for USPSA through my SDB. Its a good powder. Ive loaded 8-10 pounds of it now, and am going to stick with it. I'm at 5 grains under a Precision Delta 180 loaded at 1.180. 170 PF. Thanks for the info, Ran 1.180, 4.8, 14 rnds, through the chrono, 173PF, and was pleasantly surprised at an SD of 9. So looks like a good back up powder. Any idea on temperature sensitivity?
  14. +1. Yes taking the test before reading and learning the new rules is the biggest issue, we are at 40 % attrition and not sure how many shooters are wanting to become SOs nor when a class could be organized......the SOs that have failed the test don't seem to want to take a recertification class again.
  15. good to know, I use a 650, micrometer/polished funnel etc. I can even get clays to meter decently, I like the way clays shoots, but there are occasional pressure signs, with the STI barreled gun, but the AET barrel eats it and needs a little more powder, this is loaded at 1.20... I had AS for my daughters cowboy loads so the experiment began. I am attempting to start at 4.7 but it fluctuates 4.6-4.8, occasionally close to 4.9, I measured 30 consecutive loads. Are you seeing any pressure signs, and how much fluctuation in chrono readings are you measuring?
  16. Revive it again, we are all using what we can find these days, and no 320 on the horizon Any more chrono results or feedback on American Select, starting to hear more people using it, but apparently it does not meter well.
  17. Played with 310 in 9 and 40. Yes it can be used carefully safely. One of the best metering powders for pistol but I experienced huge fluctuations in velocity and lack of accuracy. These days and unfortunately you use what you find on the shelf and 310 seems to be available at the moment.
  18. Not sure why I was told that, one shooter is a pro. I just ordered one from infinity. Most of the ones I have seen seem to be steel in the base and tungsten in the rod.
  19. was thinking Tungsten here, since my gun is an eagle type with bushing barrel, HOWEVER, the local shooters said no way, tungsten rods break................so, any problems with broken rods??????????????
  20. I was looking for a copy of "Feel the fear and do it anyway" by Susan Jeffers and just found it. It was given to me 11-12 years ago, time to look through it again....
  21. funny thing is I know that already, it is a self image problem, it is me watching me perform and coming up to that standard is the "real"problem
  22. yes sir, I just came to read and fell on the perfect thread.......it is me.
  23. Embrace the spot light! This is your opportunity to teach all those "amateurs" in the super-squad how to shoot the stage. Yep! It is the mental that is the problem. The fear of failure in front of those you respect. There are several mental games you can play with yourself until you get the confidence to execute what you know you can do. This is coupled with the ability to shed the bad stage and go out and just shoot the next stage the way you know you can. The power of positive thinking is not just a saying. sounds about right for me, struggling with going to a match right now, because I was overseas and feel unprepared, but the real reason is the feel of failure and the pressure to perform to the abilities you know you have, but that may not be attainable without preparation.......(rusty)
