  1. What would be the disadvantage of using a Micro Aimpoint for Tac Limited? Is there a major advantage of the 30mm tubes over the Micro? I also assume that the 2MOA dot would be preferable to 4MOA. I've got a micro that I can use for Tac limited, but am also thinking about the Aimpoint PRO with 2MOA dot. Mick
  2. I guess the question is "how tight is too tight" before accuracy suffers. On the Surefire brake, it is indexed with peel washers to the 4-5 o'clock position before being tightened. Surefire specifies 30 ft lbs. In my case, it was around 60 ft lbs. I haven't shot the rifle yet, but will find out this weekend. How is everyone else putting their muzzle brakes on? Hand tight with loctite, or tightening from the 4-5 o'clock position with loctite or rocksett? maybe someone needs to do a Front Sight article on muzzle brake tightness? :-) Mick
  3. Can a muzzle brake be over tightened? If so, what problems can it cause? Installed a Surefire MB556K and using the supplied shims, got the brake to where it needed to be on the supplied indexing chart. Surefire says to tighten to ~30 ft lbs. This one would not index correctly until at least 60 ft lbs. Mick
  4. DS Arms now has steel charging handles, $45. http://www.dsarms.com/ZM4_AR15-Steel-Charging-handle-complete-with-standard-latch---ZM48518S/productinfo/ZM48518S/ This is what the Brownell's unit was supposed to be. $55 with extended latch; http://www.dsarms.com/ZM4_AR15-Steel-Charging-handle-complete-with-extended-latch---ZM48518SE/productinfo/ZM48518SE/ Mick
  5. Good idea. I peen the roll pins in by buffers after I had one walk out after a match. A little further and it would have bound up the recoil spring... Mick
  6. Recieved the Brownells "steel" charging handle and it is actually a stripped DPMS aluminum charging handle with an oversized steel latch. They were incorrectly listed as steel. After I pointed that out to them, they sent me a steel DPMS unit and changed the description... Mick
  7. My Match already has Hennings guide rod, hammer spring and firing pin upgrades. The plan is to stay in USPSA Limited class. Mick
  8. I currently have a Match in .40 and am looking to upgrade to either the Limited Pro or Stock 2. There doesn't appear to be much difference besides the Stock 2 having a full length dust cover on the frame. Any other differences I should be aware of? Which would you pick for USPSA and why? Mick
  9. Thanks for the feedback. Brownells has a new steel charging handle at a pretty good price that I might try... http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=42379/Product/AR_15_M16_TACTICAL_CHARGING_HANDLE Mick
  10. PRI has the gas buster, and DPMS,and Brownells have steel units. Any advantage of a steel charging handle on an AR15? Has anyone ever bent or otherwise damaged a regular aluminium charging handle? Mick
  11. I'm building a new rifle and I have a couple of Colt half circle "Law Enforcement" bolt carriers lying around. These have the shrouded firing pin ramp like the M16 carrier, but the rear is cut to a half circle like the old SP1 carriers. Would using this carrier be akin to the lightweight carriers out there? Any potential issues going this route that anyone can see? Mick
  12. What's the difference besides easier fitting and a higher price? Does the JP-EZ trigger kit privide a better result than the regular JP unit and is it worth the extra cost? Mick
  13. Besides direct from PRI, where can I buy one a PRI 15" handguard? Mick
  14. I've got a new Colt A2 government profile 20 inch barrel lying around that I'm thinking of using for a lighter weight 3-gun rifle build. Plan is to add a muzzle brake, shave the front sight tower and mate it up to a 15" PRI handguard. Question is, has anyone successfully used this type of barrel for 3 gun matches? Will it be accurate enough, or should I sell it off for something else? Mick
  15. Absolutely. Just ask Patrick Kelly! Mick
  16. My Tacsol upper runs 100% on my Bushmaster lower with JP trigger and hammer with yellow springs. Same upper also runs 100% on it's new home. An AGP lower with stock DPMS trigger with JP yellow spring kit. Mick
  17. I'm running the Noveske 18" with 1/7 twist on mine and all I use is 55gr ammo. Not a problem with accuracy. Gas block is a low profile pinned and can be had with rifle length or "intermediate length" gas systems. Maybe I just need to let you shoot mine to see what the rifle can really do. Lord knows I can't shoot for crap anyway!
  18. I had already purchased my DOH directly from Blade Tech. Now we know where they got the gun to make the mold! The only comment that I can make is that the holster has to be adjusted such that you don't get a torquing effect when you draw the gun. By that I mean the holster will twist outwards while you a drawing the gun, making the draw harder. I think this is due to the drop feature. Other holsters that work with the large frame Tanfoglios are the Safarliand 010, which I like (and are available from Brian Enos). Mick
  19. Henning, if you are coming down to Rio Salado in November, any chance of bringing some of the front sights with you? Also, how do your new fibre optic front sights compare to those found on STI's? Is the fibre the same size or smaller? Mick
  20. Might want to wait for Henning to bring out his rear sight....oops, noticed I already said that Mick
  21. SWEEEEEETTTT!!!!!! Looking forward to this much needed upgrade! Mick
  22. Maybe just wait for Henning to make his rear sight available? Mick
  23. Better rear sight to replace the Novak style on the current Elite Match models, please!!!!! Mick
  24. Yep. I have seen a couple of Tanfoglio's go full auto during a match when the modified sear or hammer went.... ANy reason the Tanfoglio Custom Shop couldn't use properly through hardened parts on their guns? They are custom, after all, right? Mick
